    Both Jamelle Holieway and Lydell Carr were hurt in this game... Holieway would never be the same.. His knee injury was devastating, he lost all his cat like quickness and cutting ability.

      It was heartbreaking. He was my idol as a kid. I met him in Spring '86, wearing my #4 Sooners jersey. I was 3 years old.

      Tony you tackled one of the greatest running backs to ever play in college and the NFL

    Thurman Thomas And Barry Sanders easily the greatest duo of running backs on the same team in football history not just college either.

    It’s amazing how Nebraska and Oklahoma kept the rest of the Big 8 at arms length for so long.

      How long Nebraska had to play second fiddle to Oklahoma or lose a Bowl Game

    Im convinced if Holieway isn't hurt...this team blows out Nebraska even worse than the ten point margin...and i believe that Jammin Jamelle woulda easily covered the six point loss to Miami in the Orange Bowl...he was ...before the injury...an absolute MAGICIAN!.....running AND throwing ...capable of the big play at any time...or driving the offense smoothly....in a way...even in defeat...the Pokes cost OU the 1987 national title....

    OSU had 2 hall of fame RBs in the same backfield. And Hart Lee Dykes was a first rd draft pick I believe. Barry wasn't even the starting tailback that year. Crazy stuff.

    What's crazy is if you didn't live in OKC or Tulsa and have cable, you didn't see this game in the rest of the state.

    87' OU averaged over 400 yards rushing per game without a star tailback

    The OU DEFENSE actually outscored the (#12 in the nation) Cowboy's entire offense.....even with legends BARRY SANDERS AND THURMAN THOMAS IN THEIR BACKFIELD! Incredible. No need for Jamelle and the boys - just give the Pokes the ball on offense every play and the Sooners would STILL win!

    Mike Gundy is a far better coach than he ever was a Quarterback !!

    Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders in the same pro backfield, let alone college backfield, would have been insane. On another note, dunno why Okie St. persisted with the power I against the most crushing run defense in the country. If I had been the coach, I would have used those two HOF RBs as receivers more often in this game and would have put Gundy in the shotgun.

    • @nautique1154
      @nautique1154 Před 6 měsíci +1

      The only problem in that equation id Mike Gundy at QB. He was a interception machine and at the worst times. He would just throw it up without a receiver in the area to his opponent in every big game just crushing his team.

    John Boisvert was my teacher in middle school and he told us in class one day Barry Sanders would just exercise by jumping and touching the ceiling with the palms of his hands consistently

    I know hindsight 20/20 but good gravy Switzer should’ve kept Troy Aikman around more than Holloway. A lot of flash, but Troy could throw the ball.

    • @ronaldlamascus1944
      @ronaldlamascus1944 Před 10 dny

      And that was the problem; Aikman could throw the ball and Oklahoma was built as a running team. It would have required a whole new offense and different players so it was sacrifice one guy or several guys and Aikman thrived at UCLA.
