  • This is the FIX! If you're coming from the older videos, I hope this works much for you. The last ones sadly were a band aid - THIS IS THE FIX.
    Are your videos looking weird when you export them from Adobe Premiere Pro? Not looking the same way as in the program? Colors off ? Over Blown & Over Exposed Footage ? Desaturated Colors ? Here's the tutorial walk thru of how to fix this so you footage you're editing in Premiere looks like that when you export!
    Big thanks to Nick Faldstein for help on the Thumbnail!

    For Mac users (with clients who are Mac users) it's also worth viewing with the 1.96 (Quicktime) Gamma because this is exactly what it will look like in Quicktime when you export. I toggle between 2.2 Web and 1.96 Quicktime now before finalising my grades so I know what it'll look like in those different scenarios. VLC player shows it in 2.4 broadcast Gamma so that's useful for getting an idea of what the grade will look like at festivals or screenings where they'll be screening it properly.

    Whenever I have display color management ticked on,when exported, the color matches in my QuickTime Player. BUT it loses saturation. When I have display color manger ticked off, my premiere preview shows a vibrant picture. When I export that to preview on QuickTime it’s as if I had the display color management ticked on.

    • @NightOwlsMedia
      @NightOwlsMedia  Před 14 dny

      @@lilisland27 QT player is a skewed look to other players. Kind of how like back in the day when we would burn DVDs for clients You always want to check it on a player before sending it out because while it might work on one machine, you could have errors on something else. This is how it is with media players. Unfortunately most people do play media playback on inferior players like QuickTime or Windows Media player. These programs are really not good. Check the video in VLC player, but also be sure to check it on another source like a television from something like a Roku or another breakout media box.
      At the end of the day, the most important thing is to know where the video is going to live. If it's going to live on CZcams, upload it to CZcams and see how it looks from different sources - PC, tv, phone, etc. If it's going to live as a digital file and not be online, then check where people would play it, i.e, computer, TV. But you always want to make the final product for where it's going to live

    I could really use some help - I’ve tried everything in this video and tons of other ideas from other videos and nothing has worked for me.
    I use iPhone. When I upload into adobe it makes the video way overexposed, and after export it looks even worse. When changing to rec 709 it makes everything look foggy and dull. I’ve played around with lumetri colors too. Still nothing has worked for me. I can’t get anything even remotely close to what it looked like when shooting on my iPhone

    • @NightOwlsMedia
      @NightOwlsMedia  Před měsícem +1

      So this sounds like you're not shooting in rec 709. And while I am not 100% sure because I don't have anything Apple because of this kind of thing, I don't think Apple shoots natively rec 709. I think they shoot HLG. So here's my suggestion and let me know if it works. Import your video like normal, right click on the file in the project window, create new sequence from clip, that should set up a sequence with the clips settings.
      While you're at it, going to your phone and see what your video settings and your color space is. This 100% sounds like a color space issue

    • @travisegger1316
      @travisegger1316 Před měsícem

      @@NightOwlsMedia it looks like you’re right that apple is HDR, I’m not sure why so many videos out there say for iPhone users to turn on rec 709 in adobe, but that def does not work for me.
      I just tried what u said. I opened a new sequence as normal, then I right clicked on the project and hit “new sequence from clip.” I now just have a duplicate video in here, but look exactly the same color-wise. Super overexposed.
      I’m able to alter the lumetri colors and get it looking good, but usually when I export all the colors get messed up. However, this time they did not! Maybe it’s bc I did what u said? Could also be because it was only an 8 second clip. I’m going to try this again with a full 15 min clip and lyk the results. Thank you!

    • @NightOwlsMedia
      @NightOwlsMedia  Před měsícem +1

      @@travisegger1316 SUper freaking happy to hear that it worked!! The point of creating a new squence from the clip is because when you create a new sequence, DO NOT USE the templates ones PremPro gives you as is. You should go into the settings to be sure that each sequence is set up EXACTLY how you need it before you start editing. What you were doing is starting a new sequence and keeping the stock settings and using video that doesnt match the color space of the sequence (then again exporting with settings that don't match the color space). It's kind of like CMYK vs RGB (RGB is used for screens and shoudn't be used for printing, while CYMK is not good with screens, and should be used for printing). Color space determines how the colors work / gamma, hue, shade, etc.
      When you create a seq from the clip, you are taking the data from the clip and setting the seq to those settings. My advice, create custom sequences and save them as tempaltes for each type of project and each type of camera / color space you use.

      Be sure to read through the notes in the comments that we've talked about. But the most important thing is your workflow, not just the export. I mentioned this in the video. The color space you shoot in should be the same color space you edit in and then export the same color space

    Hey I'm currently facing the same problem as described, yet the result is disappointing to say the least.
    Situation is the following:
    I'm working with footage I didn't record myself (not my choice but definitely my problem now).
    The footage was recorded on iPhone so I set up the project accordingly to HLG/HDR instead of Rec 703 and otherwise followed the instructions from this video to a t. Yet whenever I move to the Export Window the whole color space in the preview window is completely oversaturated and the export exactly matches the export preview and not the sequence footage.
    Any idea on what I might be doing wrong?

    • @NightOwlsMedia
      @NightOwlsMedia  Před měsícem +1

      You have to follow the color space from recording to export. So if your sequence is set up HLG be sure you're exporting in HLG as well. In export you have these controls, in my experience NEVER use the Prempro presets, they are just not good. You have to create your own. So set up the export settings with the correct color space. So rec709 shouldn't come into play at all for you. Unless you want to convert to rec709 color but that's a whole other topic.

    • @TEG13
      @TEG13 Před měsícem

      @@NightOwlsMedia first of thanks for the quick reply.
      I've just found something out while testing around. The following is mainly for people who might encounter the same issue. Even while setting the Preset section in the Export to "Custom," the color space option is greyed out and uneditable. There is no option to choose "None" as a preset.
      However, once you choose "Match sequence preview settings" almost at the bottom of the options, everything is editable, and it just exports as it should.
      Why Adobe chose for it to be this unnecessarily complicated will be a question to which we may never know the answer.

    • @NightOwlsMedia
      @NightOwlsMedia  Před měsícem

      @@TEG13 YUP! That's the starting point to exporting. Sorry, I should have said that. The presets are garbage because they don't do what we need. Always start your export with "match settings" the tweak everything everything. For example of you're posting 4K to CZcams you want it to be CBR 100mbs. If it's for in person viewing (think a TV in a bakery showing baked deserts on video 4K) it could be VBR 40-60. Where the video lives is always the first question we as the editor should ask.
      Instagram is different from Facebook, is different from CZcams, is different from websites, is different from in person viewing.
      Would this be a good video I can make? I apologize, I didn't think this would be a good topic as people tend to not watch these kind of videos on my channel.

      @TEG13 Před měsícem

      @@NightOwlsMedia It's definitely something that should be included in any beginners guide, as it's something most tutorials leave out for the reasons you listed.
      The thing is I have a bunch of custom export presets I made in the past that perfectly work within my usual workflow, but the record settings that were used are just the antithesis to all I had previously used. Once you're very used to a certain workflow, it's sometimes quite difficult to find the details you're overlooking. Personally, I also think Premiere had the setting a lot better organized in some previous versions. The worst part is that I'll have to combine it with Rec 703 files later on, so I'll probably have to throw it into Handbrake afterward just so it'll work in the full project. In my experience, it's still miles better than Media Encoder when it comes to converting QuickTime .mov-files to .mp3 without much loss in quality.

    • @NightOwlsMedia
      @NightOwlsMedia  Před měsícem

      Check the comments. Someone had an iPhone issue today as well. iPhone shoots in HLG / HDR, so you need to ensure that you are editing in the same color space as the iPhone footage. Since you aren't filming in rec 709, you shouldn't be editing or exporting in rec 709. You should be editing an exporting in HLG or HDR. So instead of creating a sequence from the presets inside prem pro, create a sequence from the clip itself. Right click on the clip and select new sequence from clip. This will create a sequence with your footages color space.

      I'm going to ask a couple questions, please don't take offense to anything, I'm just trying to figure out what might be the issue.
      1. Did you record and edit in the same color space? Rec709? HLG? Etc. For example, if you filmed on an iPhone and edited in rec 709 that would be an issue as I think iPhones are standard different color space.
      2. Is your screen calibrated with a color calibrator? I use a Spyder calibrator once a month, and every month it ends up tweaking it just a little bit. Meaning, it goes out of color calibration in a month. I'm not saying that's normal, but for the monitors I use, that's the case.
      3. When your exporting, are you exporting to high quality? Make sure your exporting in the same color space, hi bitrate, Max depth, Max render. As well as a file format and codec that is appropriate
      I haven't made a video yet about exporting settings and why they matter, but maybe I should

      @@NightOwlsMedia no problem, i've write trying to work around the problem... i've all the color space set up on Rec709, Sequence on Rec709, all the high quality option check boxed, filmed on Sony FX30, editing on a Eizo Monitor

      @@claudioCarraro super jealous of the Eizo, that's really nice! How do you like it? I've been eye balling them for a while.
      As for exporting with incorrect colors - this is tricky. I wish I had a 100% answer for this. Have you tried exporting an un-graded ProRes 4444 into DaVinci Resolve? Try adjusting the colors in Resolve and export out a test. See if that works, just as a test of a couple shots.
      I know Resolve is a different beast, and one I'm not qualified to teach on, but whenever I need something higher end, I use it (very slowly) for grading.
      I know this isn't the best answer - we're all trying to figure this out and Adobe is not being very helpful with it.
