My fav part, it's peace. Greetings from the Netherlands :)
Does the interviewer quietly laughs at that?... Listen carefully at 10:12 !!
@@juantorquemada7839 Clearing his throat I think.
Yeah but he's a racist So who cares what he says
Same thing i was taught by my parents but im white
This is exactly what I'm talking about. It's important for our elders to remind us of the struggles so that we continue to push harder. Thank you Bill Duke!
The sad part is does the generation that just doesn't pay attention to history doesn't act like they care and those are the ones that are going to be in the most trouble in the future
I'm a 42 year old white man from new Zealand, & I'll tell ya right now Black man white man i really don't care i love this man for who he is!! Bill love ya bro'

Much respect for showing love

"you're no better than anyone else, no one else is better than you...." Such powerful words
Bill Duke is a unicorn. The amount of doors that were opened up to him by the people that knew him and saw the person and talent/potential is astounding. A testament to the human condition!!!
Bill Duke is old enough to remember a time before the 1964 Civil Rights Act. He has a seen a lot of shit. God bless him!
He been threw alot also
"Ni---- barbeques" :(
@@rayw.9566 It was good that Mr. Duke touched on how the dominant class killed @ will with little or no consequences which show that Africans were forced to use tricyclics while the privileged used nascars...but if we say something then the lazy, victim label is slapped on the forehead...
@@harrisford97 yes it was good to mention it my pops went to a segregated school alongside samuel L jackson. He says it pisses us off but necessary for us to understand the struggle.
Harris Ford man, I am now starting tounderstand how this all went now... Dukes interview after this touches on it some more. Now I’m white. I see people for people, but I can truly say that I’m getting a big part of why tensions are the way they are. Man I wish I could just sit down with ya man. And just listen. Seriously.
Who else eyes tear up as he speak about that kind teacher that pay for his books, room food until he graduated
Would they call that “black privilege”? LOL
@@T.Sullivan shut the fuck up
I teared up when he was speaking of trying to lighten/change his skin color so as to be loved and accepted. I am a Puerto Rican man, I am fair skinned and could pass for white and or Italian etc.. I experienced a touch of racism I believe only twice. It surely is a horrible thing. When Mr Dukes tried as a child to lighten his skin, is just a devastating thing. I can't imagine being in such a position as a parent during such terrible times of racism. As a parent it must tear at ones soul to know your child is going to go through severe obstacles and unfair treatment. It must be really heart wrenching to have to explain to your young child that the world is going to be cruel to you because of your skin color. I highly respect Mr Dukes and all whom have had to endure such bigotry...
@@LS-ti1rz I am a dark skin Puerto Rican I haveExperian some of what this gentleman has experienced RacismIs a horrible thing.
@@LS-ti1rz as should we all. We can also celebrate and appreciate those that showed him racism can never win out over love of your fellow man and the desire to see the best in all of us brought into the world. This world is a better place because those people saw something in him, and he had the ability and fortitude to live up to their belief in him. That’s love, for yourself and for your fellow man.
Bill Dukes humility is captivating. Actually taking the time to say thank you when complimented and speaking eloquently in this interview shows the clear disparity between Bill Duke's generational upbringing and the youths today. He is such a timeless role model that all should emulate. I am fortunate in my life to have known someone like Bill Duke.
There needs to be a movie of Mr. Duke's life. So damn captivating everytime he speaks.
That's what makes him a great actor. I still remember that interrogation scene.
Anytime....(Predator reference). So glad Arnold had him in alot of his movies.
That would be great to see, it's people this that should be teaching our youth, but the way Hollywood is, sadly it will not happen unless an independent studio like Pure Flix or something like that did it.
I agree. He is explaining people to switch from 'emotional inner guts feeling-view' to a 'helicopter view' visa versa. and teach a deeper understanding. Very wise man. Would me great him being the director and actor in his own movie.
Greetings from the Netherlands.
He is!! I can't stop watching, he has so much wisdom
Seeing him get choked up about that guy paying for his tuition was touching
Getting choked up about Emmitt as well....

Words will never do justice to how thankful I am for this interview 🙏🏾👼🏽😇
Bill got so many small blessing throughout his life. Like that friend who smacked that heroine from his nose was so small at the time but probably changed the course of his life.
Kun small things like that determine different factors in our lives now, but some people continue to miss every time. I missed my mark in 1983 in a computer class not taking it serious . I was there in class learning how to build computers 💻 so I called it boring and failed. I Regret it til this day.
Exactly couldnt have said it any better than u just did!!! That action literally did something for his life n he dont even kno it...
Man, I always loved this guy. So embarrassed that I never knew his name. I’ll be getting his book!

Blame You Tube, this just show upon my page anything that point how ruthless and evil they are, they want to keep it a secret, they taught us history wrong about their history, they segregated us so the can keep and eye on us because people like Bill Duke type will still be around and teach us the truth about our ancestor and history how these most dangerous, cowardly these thug thumper were towards us.

Thank you for during this interview.
Him and Ivan Dixon ( Lonnie) were the best actors in Car Wash and it's not even close.

I'm glad I got to see this interview I had no idea who Bill Duke was and I'm happy that I got to spend an hour of my day to get to know him and his background and his achievements.
I never knew Bill Duke was so versatile. I always associated him with his badass characters in action movies. I’m gonna read his book. Amazing interview. This man is a piece of history. A true piece of America history. God bless him.
He was the highest paid director in Hollywood for ten yrs around the late eighties and mid nineties.
Bill Duke needs to do some historical lectures. The young ears need to hear this. Especially those that don't believe that fat me is greasy.

Impressive resume. Some would retire, and call it good, but here he is 40+ years later, still writing, producing, directing acting, and most of all...mentoring.

Check out the movie Commando
This hits home it also puts me in the mind of my grandson he's such a generous & good hearted person. He's my world....
Incredible, must inspiring interview you've had. Mr. Bill Duke is phenomenal. He's a silent genius. Watched twice (2), will have my son watch also.
I was blessed to have this cross my feed today. Even though it was chopped to just show me the early clips that more meet my typical ideals and beliefs. I had a feeling I should watch the whole thing.
I could write a novel on the impact, but will try to limit my response. Two things really stuck out to me. One, which is what aligns with my established beliefs, was the phrase his parents raised him on. "We are no better than anyone else on this earth, but nobody is better than us either." (Obviously better stated at the individual level). But what really opened my eyes, was his mention of the way fears and experiences can be handed down through generations inherently. As I search for my blind spots, that is one I'd never considered or came across. I made a naive assumption that these traits were only embedded through indoctrination.
Watching this was one of my steps to better understand the problem and the divide in humankind. I can only imagine the generational pain that a twisted society can cause. I feel sorrow for the black community for having to endure it. We have to break that cycle, and move forward together...somehow. Going back to what Mr. Duke said, we are no better or worse than each other. We are all part of this grand blessing we are able to experience. May we all work on ourselves to become more compassionate and caring to those we have the hardest time relating to! The greatest is Love!
Did you know that white endentured (slaves) workers and black slaves were forced to mate to produce lighter children because they were worth more
@@andyteakel3957 Honestly, no, but I didn't take his explanation to mean that they were forced (I may have to go back and listen to that portion again.) What I heard was that some slaves looked for that opportunity, because a lighter skinned child, and their parent, was treated better by the slave "owner." This, as I understood it, created a divide between those in the field and those that were treated better as "house slaves." This, if I'm thinking through it, likely created a class issue within the race. I could guess that the house class felt they were better than the field class. And, potentially, stepped on the field class at every chance, to maintain their status? Being an outsider I am humbled to admit that my assessment and understandingis wrong. What are your thoughts?
So much respect for this man 💯
NYU and BU great mentoring and tutelage.
He is such a talented guy but can we take a moment to just take in how well he’s aging....the definition of black don’t crack❤️❤️❤️❤️ it!!!
1. dude is an unbelievably good actor, but never gets mentioned. 2. hearing some of the things he has seen and experienced... wow. Makes me realize how far we have come in America, and how far we have left to go. These are the stories that ALL Americans need to hear, especially white Americans, so that we can start to truly heal and move this damn country forward.
Yes he is a great actor I remember the last scene in Car Wash which was a comedy but his last scene in car wash was just so emotional and sad. Made me feel for his character and my favorite part in that movie all jokes aside literally.
It's a shame he never got the respect he was due back in his prime.

When I was in high school to me being a dark-skin dude was unattractive. I had women who would say I wasn't black enough or I was too white. The way I acted. Some people made fun of my skin tone. I used to Google ways to make my skin lighter so I can fit in. Or hide away from the Sun or come on bleach just by a little bit. I hated the color of my skin. I didn't hate being a black man. I hated that I was dark skin. I took years to love myself. I don't care what people say about my skin anymore.
You're beautiful, brother
It's still unattractive...What you talking about? Darkness.
@@nightstar3765 only to some people. Some people think it looks good so Viva la diffirance
What Bill Dukes was talking about genetically transferred behavior, is chains on the brain from slavery. Each generation, from slavery has been freeing themselves of chains. I think the 60s was the best era where there was an abundance of black pride, esp. when James Brown, put out, "Say It Loud". Now it seems things have drifted far from that road, and you see too many clones, trying to fit into some movie star image they saw, and just don't realuze their natural self is 100% more beautiful, than a fabricated image. I don't even know how God feels about this, but seems to me you're rejecting what God made as beautiful. Everything God made is beautiful. Ugly is not what He makes. But if a person choses to believe a lie said about their appearance, that's on them. Whose report will you believe.
Salutes Mr. Bill Duke! Knowledge fr days, I'm getting his book.
Bill Duke is one of the most fascinating people you could ever hope to meet and have a conversation with. Thank god for You Tube and this interview,
That’s a whole lot of history there
I like how he mentioned skin color, acceptance and i believe the success that can come with it. How its a global problem. Im a darker skinned latino, it comes from my indigenous native roots. I know what i went through because of it. So i asked other ethnicities how they felt. Everything from brazilians, filipinos and Indians on and on. They feel the same! The evidence is whats on TV. Visit these countries and see what the common person looks like and see what the successful ones look like. Watch whats on a filipino or a indian tv channel or a movie. Lighter skin plays a big role in success. Without it its generally believed you HAVE to work SOOO much harder or be that much better.
