Hi Ray, it was similar for me, although I was 44, [5 yrs ago].
Enjoy checking out his material, one of my favourites, so far is 'The river sessions', just Bert and his guitar, live.

i'm 57, never heard of him before today, when a friend sent me a video of him playing. Now i'm looking into him, watching CZcams vids to learn more about him. When my friend sent me a video of him doing, "A Woman Like You", i had no idea who he was or if he ever became famous, but i commented back to my friend, "Yah, that's great! Thanks for sharing. Very unique/original - never heard anything like it on acoustic guitar." Then, in looking into him, i found out - well, YAH!!

I was 50. I agree. We're constantly bombarded with dreck, so it's easy to miss the best things in life.

Agree with Paul about River Sessions - Bert at his performing best
Also noticed there's no BJ tracks archived on Desert Island Discs - despite the many musicians that have featured on the programme

Johnny Marr talks of Bert with so much enthusiasm, yet when he did Tracks of my years on radio 2, of all 10 tracks, Bert didn't count??

Joe Meyer: The video had songs throughout, but they were all edited out, I presume for copyright reasons.
That's why there's so much talking and the video seems poorly edited.

@uklum Not when they talk music. Particularly since US documentaries feature mainly musicians, producers and almost NO critics. Think about that.

I avoid cliché like the plague. Cliché to me is like a red rag to a bull.
