The popcorn machine is the new meme of this channel. 🤣
I've been watching this since the beginning, when I didn't know as much. You've helped me with a lot of things doing arcade maintenance, and it's always a pleasure to watch and learn from your videos. Funny that while you were finding issues during the repair work, we had same ideas for how to overcome them. Keep up the great work, John! :D
Sweet Lord, so good to see you back!!!!!
I do love your optimism each time you try something.
Hilarious ending. Didn't see that coming. Great video as always. Keep it up, you're almost done!
Glad you're back, I was going through John's Arcade withdraw! Great video, you're just about done with MKII!
Pt18.....pt17 feels like it's been a year ago lol. I hope you've had a good summer man I completely get the time away. Glad you're back for now 😉 I needed inspiration to get back into the garage myself.
Your Channel is awesome. Greetings from Brazil.
Yes your back! Love your vids i really do! have a very happy day !
"Your..." _what_ (missing possession) "...is back"? "Your [videos] is [are] back"? Or...?
"You're" back. That's probably what he meant.
Maybe, Gozinta, but let's see what _he_ says.
Finally a video for that Mortal Kombat 2 last time I seen John made a video he was making some eggs and some spam LOL
Good to see this project progress!
Welcome back, you made my weekend 😄!!
Nice to see your back BRO! Keep it up!
Good to see you back John. Hi from France !
Glad to see you back John!
i am constantly getting corrupted video myself. keep up the good work John
Good to see you back John. Missed you Man!
Since you're not seeing red and green on the monitor, you're also not seeing
on the screen is the "cmos invalid error" which should be on top of the screen
in red on the "using dipswitch coinage" screen . Replace the watch battery
from the board. Turn on and off twice after you've replaced battery. When
it goes back to the rom check diagnostic screen and finishes checking them
which should be highlighted in green you should not see the using dipswitch
coinage screen it should take you to the title screen. Cmos is what saves
number of wins, losses, settings of using coinage or freeplay mode, history
log, etc. When the battery is dead, you'll lose aforementioned above.
It'll restore to factory settings and take you to the using dipswitch coinage
screen and will have to hit the start button. You can get the battery from
batteries plus. About $2.50. If they don't have an exact one, you can also
use one that's slightly thicker. Also remember to put back the dipswitch
settings. Hope this helps.
So happy to see you back
Thanks!
Yes your back, keep the videos coming!
Thanks!
Watching and playing zombies ate my neighbours. Awesome John thanks.
I too have trouble reading the markings on fuses to see what the amperage is (and I wear bifocals!). :O What I did was I bought a small cheap magnifying glass somewhere (Wal-Mart, I think. It cost me a whole dollar!). Hold the fuse under a light source and the magnifying glass will make reading the fuses a whole lot easier.
Congrats on 40k Subscribers, John! You rock!
Ghost John. Love it
That brisket looked awesome!
It really was. I wish I could have shown it in the video after I cut it. OMG.
Oh yeeeess!!!! It’s a LONG one!👍👍
Malibu John! Glad you’re back!
That was my favourite episode ever.
YEAAAAAAAYAYAYAYAYAYA Been waiting awhile for this episode :D.
It's been a while since I messed with mk2. But make sure all dipswitches are off on the board, or else you cant save some options in the menu.
I believe you need to have all the colors. Or you cant see all the messages.
Also. Midway games have weird encryption in the DCS sound board, and is needed to boot the game fully, IIRC. It's been way too long. Glad to see you back
Wow John! You've upped your game since the Zero Commit days. Very cool stuff going on here! I don't know how CZcams recommend this channel, but glad they did. Say "hey" to Riggy if you still talk to him. (Secord 20)
Wow. Secord! How you been?
That ending in the dark is just hilarious!
Can we please start a GoFundMe to get John a new popcorn machine.
Tom’s Zippo Channel he needs to get a fondue fountain
KennyKC cotton candy
It's like a Pokémon, specifically a magikarp, if we keep it there long enough it'll evolve on its own into a rotisserie hot dog machine.
John is an arcade operator, he makes more money than you do.
Okura, you don't know how much money either one of them makes.
He's back !!!
It is looking really good.
Thanks!
Right on man, that harness looks like a nightmare to work with man. I'm sure you'll get her up and running soon though, cheers man.
Well at least you went and invested in smoker. Great choice john. You are going to love it. Try smoking a turkey for thanksgiving. You wont ever use a oven again. I like the arcade repair cooking show lol. Could be a good concept for future videos..
Any metal objects especially the coin door that somebody might touch has to go directly out to earth to your plug in the wall socket, has to have as little resistance as possible John. And always check your Earth connections back to the plug pin with continuity no more than 3 ohms. A transformer needs to be earthed otherwise it will cause humm.
A shielded wire and or sheaf always is connected at one end only that is the ground Earth and the other end is left open, so you're always work back to the ground End only
The end of this vid was awesome
At last, your back!!
His what (missing possession)?
Hi John. Thanks for sharing the PacMan cabinet I made earlier this year. In answer to your coin door question I had to put a single slot X-arcade coin door in to keep the proportions about right. With regards to the side art I got color matched paint that is hopefully close to the original yellow. I would like to put on side art but need to find a reasonably priced solution for getting that scaled artwork printed. If you have any suggestions greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work and hope you get back to creating more frequent content once again. Your uploads are missed
An actual Sunday video? OMG!
Welcome back John!
John, you should looking at the Dip Switch Settings of the coinage. I'm not sure about the led from the pcb but I might investigate a little further. You almost done but you need to check the pcb because the Wiring might not be complete, you should double check. Good video and keep up with the videos.
Hope you had a nice vacation.
A new John's Arcade video?! 😳 Are my eyes deceiving me?!
Congrats on the 40K
Thanks, Dave!
Good to see you back, John. I work in meats, come into my store and I'll give you mark downs. :) I still make your meat balls. If you loved to cook, why not make a second channel about! I love John's Kitchen....it's just not enough episodes. Honestly, I love cooking tips.
Yay, back to MKII!
It's great to see a new vid john, I am still trying to repair my Crazy Kong PCB after it developed graphics problems on the sprites. I have replaced all the ram and the sprite eproms, loads of the logic chips and still cant find the fault. Now I have one of these new IC logic testers from china so I am going to give that a go. As soon as I work out this problem I am going to try and make a video showing what I found along the way.
Awesome! keep us posted.
At last I fixed my board, So happy it's working again.
Great video John! Pay that electricity bill man! 😎👍😉
Yeeeeeessss I’m sooooo happyyyyy
When trying to get two terminals onto the same screw with those power supplies, it is easier is you turn one of them upside down, so the flat sides are together. That way they slide on much more easily than when stacked on top of each other.
Woohoo Welcome Back John been looking forward to this. You think they would of put a window in the smoker so you can see in and resist the temptation of keep opening it which obviously defeats the object. Nice little break seeing your lunch cooking, how was the Brisket in the end? The game looked like it was stuck in a reset loop.
Your back :)
Gah, was keeping my fingers crossed for you getting this up and running this time around... hook up that bloody soundboard power, play with the dip switches and get it to boot, sooooon!!
Since you are missing red you don't see the error message on the dipswitch screen. It would tell you to hit any button to continue.
Ahh... makes sense.
Pretty sure there is a button cell, 2032that you need to change on the pcb to get rid of the “cmos” error. It is not showing up on screen as there is no red. I have a midway T2 and Rampage World Tour that do the same thing when the battery is low. Also a simple rom reseat might help. Glad to see you back!
Yes... next video. Thanks!
I own a piece of that “ICONIC” popcorn machine!! 😂😭😂😭
best ending ever!!
58:21 old grumpy man talking to wire harness. XD
best ending EVER!!!!!
36:56 :-) John is the best!
37:02
R.I.P popcorn machine you served the basement well. Lol
Bryan M
R.I.P Mad Planets.
Left the basement quietly while people cared about the popcorn machine
At 32:00 that connector is for your bill acceptor (3rd coin switch). Purple wires A/C
R.I.P to that popcorn machine LOL
Hi John, welcome back!!! Is there any way I can purchase more of those High score sticky notes you made awhile back? Thanks again for all the great videos. Cheers
There's a harness you need that supplies power to the sound board from the main board. Someone on ebay sells nice ones for about $20. That and a battery on the main board should skip that screen but you just need to press a button to skip it.
I was getting worried for you John...been gone for a while! 😂
John, as you are missing red currently, you are not seeing the red error message at the top (probably "CMOS Invalid -- Factory Settings Restored") and the message on the bottom also in red should say "Errors Detected -- Any Button to Continue". xD
Thanks! It's all making sense now. :)
Woohoo!!!!
I’m going to be completely honest, I have no clue what I’m doing. But are there dipswitches on the board that need to be in a certain order? Kind of like clocking a pc motherboard?
Welcome back where you been
Great video John.... looking forward to the M K booting up . And how was the brisket,?
Missing green and red colors in the monitor, checks if appears yellow, green and red texts, when the system start for first time, this need accept the initial default setting for the first boot
Do you need press any button for continue and watch the demo
I'm sure you have worked it out by now but the sound board gets power from the main board via that connector you mentioned, details are in the manual!
ok i never thought about it untill now but i have to ask, do you just have all these arcade machines here for you and the familly or do you actually have people come here and you just charge them? i had to ask cus it is technically your basement so yeah.
Like your mancave, #YOUSO80'✌
see you next year!
Bye!
Well that was kind of unexpected. It's like those old Bugs Bunny cartoons when the power goes out and all you see their eyes.
But this time it's only jon watch that we see.
Congrats on the sub count
Thanks!
Sound board is not lighting up because you are missing the power wire that goes between the PCB and the sound board. There should be a ribbon cable which you have hooked up and a power wire that I don't see.
I can send you a picture of what the wire looks like if it helps
FUCK! i am going crazy wondering how the brisket came out! damn you John!
It was amazing!
👍👍👍
Hey John, I have a Crazy Kong in an Original Donkey Kong cabinet, I purchased it this way a few years ago, and I wanted to make it a Donkey Kong, but I’m not knowledgeable enough, to do it. I’m looking to replace this machine, with an Ice Cold Beer machine. I live in Trumbull Connecticut, if your interested.
Have you heard about arcade 1up? They look good and are licensed by the original creators of the games.
you must confirm "using coindoor coinage" with the Start button
he shd of read the manual... 90's games doesn't seem to be his thing
Would the manual tell me that if I had colors missing I couldn't see "push start to continue?" :)
"Shd of..."? That doesn't make any sense.
if you replace the battery he does not always ask when switching on..
The mini nine pin with the 120v is for a Bill acceptor in case no one told ya yet :)
push any button to continue!
I know this now :)
Good to see a new video. Though I kinda miss a new video each week as they have helped me out greatly since starting my own collection which is at a total of 3 units now. A Super Hang On - Mini Ride, Stern Tutankham, and a old 80's barcade with a 13 inch G07 monitor that Ive got setup with a Williams multi-cade.
So, John Ive got a question. Where on earth would one start if they were trying to find parts for a Super Hang On mini ride cabinet. Ive looked on Ebay, KLOV, Arcade Boneyard, arcadefixit.com and finding parts for the motorcycle assemble are insanely hard to find.
Also by chance are you aware of anyone in the 3d printing business that makes aftermarket parts for arcades and pins? As I figure the only way im going to be able to find a replacement handle bar cover for my Bike is to have someone 3d print me one as the last one I found for sale on KLOV was around 3-4 years back now.
Wow this is becoming an Arcade Odyssey
Yo! John, what has happened with your popcorn machine? Did you break it?
Using dipswitch coinage is because the 3v battery is dead and the game cant remember the pricing settings, so it says going to default every time it boots .. you can skip this screen by pressing a button on control panel. Replace the 3v, check pricing settings and it should be good to go.. I keep mine on free play
most games dont sync during bootup, until the game loads the monitor wont sync up..sometimes you can fix sync issues by making sure horizontal and vertical are in right spot, and sometimes i've had luck twisting the syncs together
Turning into another journey
Hey it's a Mortal Kombat 2 you are restoring, you might want to add that 2 to the video title.
FIXED. Thanks. :)
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech fix 17 as well.
No problem! :-)
Kind of get the same feeling. It's just the way he seems to want to get this one done and out of the way. Guess after doing this so much and being busy with other things, it kind of burns you out, huh John?
I do this sorta stuff for a living. There's a lot to factor...spending time and doing a good job on something like, say, crimping and checking continuity to find that a board simply isn't turning on when you finally get to boot it up. Having to deal with more than you need to in order to get what you need done, and taking everything out, then having to put it all back in. Having to find makeshift hardware to do the job so you don't have to order and wait or make an additional trip to the hardware store. Dropping said hardware and having it fall under the deepest and hardest cranny in your workspace. Losing tools and connectors. The list goes on.
This is probably why John took a golf break half-way through, I don't blame him :D
Fk MKII how did the smoked brisket turn out?!?! Nice ending btw! Blackened is the end hehe
Hey John. Do yourself a favor and take a look at the Operators Manual and really read through the wiring diagram. The diagram gives the locations of the connectors on the main PCB, it shows the wiring color so you know what is what, and honestly is your greatest resource. I went and also google searched an MK2 restore and reviewed those detailed photos.
The sound board is indeed missing a power cable. That's a standard MK2 Sound Board Power Connector that you can get the pinout from your manual and make one yourself. No big deal. For the monitor color issues, just make sure you have a proper connection to the boards. If you have the Craftymech TPG, hook that up to see if it's the wiring, or the monitor, that is short on colors.
I was able to get a wiring harness for my MK2 cabinet built just by following the wiring in the operators manual. Trust me. You can get that working in less than half a day I tell you. If you weren't 1.75 or so hours away, I'd drive up right now to help you. Heh.
I'll get it. :) I was planning on using the tpg again but I did have all the colors when we got the monitor working.
hey john how i can clone arcade video game software to a backup or clone to another hardisk. tried aomie backupper but couldn't get proper result pls help me out☺
What game? I've never had to do it. eBay sells a lot of sd card replacements too for many drives in arcade games.
Isn't it easier to test the board with a cbox?
Next episode... Hot Wings and Bronco Restoration 🤪🤪😷😷🤘🤘
👍😊
