  • Like many people around the world, I am stuck at home due to the coronavirus outbreak. In this video series, I share some ideas on how you can keep developing your table tennis skills whilst at home.
    In episode 6, I use a table tennis robot to practise some drives and loops. The kids also try out the robot, with varying degrees of success!

    Nice kids you have! 👍👍👍. I am fortunate enough to have a TT table in my basement. I added a homemade ball recycling system to my robot that now can held 360 balls! I can keep practicing for 30-45 minutes, non-stop 😅😅😅.

    Hi Tom, This is Walter William Vincent from India. I am a beginner playing table tennis, and it's only been a month or so since I have started playing. I have been watching your videos with Brian and another coach, whose name sounds like French to me. Pardon me if you can, as I am not very good at name's. Tom, I have a problem with my servers. I keep either getting the ball in the net, hitting the ball onto the side of the table, or out of the table on my opponents side. Now, I have started to serve simple so that I can control the ball to put it in the right place. We have one table tennis board, and about 20 of us play every evening. Play local table tennis, which is quite obvious as a beginner. Without any coaching, but Tom, I have learned alote

      I think that's the right approach. Start with simple serves that you can get on the table and gradually increase the spin. It does take quite a bit of practice to have consistent spinny serves, but it will make a big difference to your game if you can achieve this. Good luck!

    0:47 If you can afford, buy this one. If you cannot afford, save and wait until you can afford to buy it. The simple blue one is prone to jamming (big headache) and runs out of balls quickly, is noisy from the motor (headache if you have to use it in any public place) and is very likely to be hit by balls you hit, making the balls flying far everywhere and causing annoying noises (you can guess why this is a headache) When balls are jammed, you should push your finger into the hole and pull out one or two tightly jammed ball with only one or two finger, which may take quite a long time.

    Thanks for the video, but the Joola V300 is the worst robot that I have used. I returned it after a week of constant jamming. I spent more time shutting it off and fixing it than to actually playing table tennis.

    Hi Tom, would this setup be good for a beginner with limited space , 3/4 table and robot for practice ? I can’t really fit a full size table in .

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  Před rokem +1

      You could potentially make this work with a 3/4 size table. You would have to get a robot which sits on the table. It won't be as good as using a full size table but better than nothing I suppose.

    • @GlidezFFA
      @GlidezFFA Před 4 lety +1

      Depends. Another person is always better to practice with. The ipong v300s good for working on strokes and practicing footwork but it's somewhat inconsistent and tiresome with settings. You always have to muck around and alter them (even if you've had 30 good balls shoot out, suddenly there's an error and the balls will no longer make it over the net so you have to adjust the spin or the position of the machine). It's pretty loud and will generally jam at some point. You'll have to restart and fiddle with it to get it going again. Additionally the level of spin is fairly weak and not really comparable to most players. I've probably used the machine 10-15 times in the last year. I'm a table tennis finatic but I choose to just practice my serve and brushing no spin balls from difficult positions in my alone time as the machine is a lot of work. Could just be a dodgy model but I've seen many people mention the jamming.
      In conclusion the machine is worth it if you're patient, have no one to pracitce with and really need to work on strokes/footwork. Looping heavy backspin is pretty fun and it's a crazy workout trying to keep up at max speed.

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  Před 4 lety

      Some good advice from Glidez. It's an entry level robot. So it's fine for doing basic exercises. But there are many better robots, which of course cost a lot more.

    Hi Tom. I'm seriously considering getting a midsize table and a robot to practice at home. However, I am having concerns with the length and width of the midsize table since I've been training doing spins targeted to the leftmost and rightmost corners of the table. I want to practice at home to save time going to the club. My question is, come time to play in a full length table, would my shot differ since I was practicing at 6 feet length? I'm worried my shots will now go mid table instead of corner table. What has been your experience transitioning from mid size to full size?

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  Před rokem +1

      I wouldn't recommend a midsize table for serious training. It's just too small and you will have to make your shots shorter, which won't benefit you when you play on a dull-size table. A midsize table is fine for a bit of fun, but not proper training.
