  • This video is a recording of a talk given at McMaster University to high school students from Hamilton, Ontario on December 2nd, 2013. This short video aims to teach students about the current advancements in asthma research, and to suggest that more research is necessary to find an absolute cure for people with this illness. This talk gives an overview of potential causes of asthma, explaining the role of the immune system and smooth muscle in asthma attacks. The current treatment of steroid puffers is mentioned, and then the talk moves on to two recent developments in asthma treatment: immunotherapy and bronchial thermoplastic. The speaker, Jessica Teicher, is an undergraduate student at McMaster University, and she gave this talk as part of the "HTH SCI 4DM3: Demystifying Medicine" course. This presentation was developed in collaboration with group members Bushra Habib, Mary Tong, and Daniel Yoo.

I like this lecture, although I was hoping she'd go more into the details of the inflammatory response of the cells. I really wanna understand more about the microbiology of the condition.
