Her final expression in the live performance was her "waking up" from being immersed in the music. She said in the interview afterwards how nervous she was: "I'm just happy I did not drink too much today or I would have peed myself".
This performance was in the first years of her career, where she was still very nervous and did not really enjoy performing like she does later. So this concert in the huge arena with 8000 people and live tv was very scary and she used her ability to completely "zone out" and just feel the music, and then she wakes up again to this scary huge arena.
Here are some quotes about her performances from interviews later in her career:
    youtu . be /BNIUD9f4Szk&t=5m22s
"I know I use my hands a lot. I didn't know in the beginning that I did, and when I watched a video of myself for the first time, by mistake and I will never do that again I swear to myself, I was very terrified. I look like I'm possessed.
It feels nice, I think it is necessary. It's kind of like being asleep having a very strange dream, and you do things without even knowing it, and it would look very strange from the outside."
I have so many emotions and opinions and words inside this tiny body, and I think every time I get the chance to get them out, and there is only like...and they all have to come out this tiny mouth, and I guess I just have to use every tool I have to help like the emotions come out alive my body I guess."
    youtu . be /gWa68W9sUC4&t=26m7s
"I think it took me about 2 years to enjoy being on stage.....cause it is not a natural thing for me to..., I dunno, the attention thing is very strange"
"...because I have so much energy when I sing, and I can feel like, you know. It comes from like a different place, like from the place of music, if it's....you know, this divine place. I get like, I get too much energy for my tiny human shape."

Exactly, like she is in a whole different world and then is almost surprised to see all the people there when she returns to this reality. Absolutely, mind-blowingly beautiful. And she can sing too ;)

    • @hishouha
      @hishouha Před 2 lety +4

Absolutely ! That's always the feeling I get when I see her performing, she goes into a "trance" and when the song is finished, you can see her coming back to herself like as if she is regaining consciousness. She also said that when performs, it's like she lets the music possess her and flow through her body and mind and soul and she's just the tool of the song. It's a very powerful imagery and I think I understand what she means.

I saw her in concert a couple of years ago, and it was absolutely magical. Her performance is intense, but she doesn't take herself too seriously. Between songs, she would make jokes, and shout out to people she recognized in the audience.
It was the best concert I have been to since Pink Floyd in 1971.

Great, passionate reaction! Part of that look at the end was the fact that she was 19 years old, invited to perform in front of Nobel Peace Prize winners, and was terrified! There's a clip on CZcams of Aurora attending a press conference for the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize concert (czcams.com/video/nkxf1mARvnc/video.html), she was so nervous she brought a pine cone with her.

Aurora has such a fantastically pure voice, but is also capable of conveying emotion with her tone and movements, great reaction and you are right it seems like being on stage is as natural as breathing for her, another fantastic Nordic singer is Eivør Pálsdóttir from the Faero Islands, she is another magical creature like Aurora, her live performance of the song Falling Free is an spiritual experience imo. i think you and your audience would really enjoy it.

Great job as always, She has that effect on all of us and thats why we enjoy watching others become enchanted by her live performances. If you do another official video, it must be the Seed then The River, Queendom, Runnng with the Wolves, Apple Tree, Daydreamer. But of course live is always the best. By the way that video was filmed mostly from her parents front yard(fjord and island behind her). And yes she is pure magic.🧚‍♂️

So many thing that you observe are so right in my point of view. She said that (when she was youger) she had probleme with feelings being deeply empath, and the way to let them out was doing music and after that was puting words on it, that was her way to understand them and being able to coop with it. And now every time she sings those song, she goes right back it that feeling that she was trying to take out, to express, to understand. She said that each of those song are like in little drawer charged with the initial feeling and when she sings she open the little drawer and all of it come right back. That also explain that kind ''coming back from somewere'' when she end the song.

Enjoyed your reaction and commentary! This song -- initially released 6 years ago -- took on a second life on TikTok this past year (400 million views)! AURORA is now about to release her 3rd or 4th album (depending on how you count Steps 1 & 2 of her previous project). It is called THE GODS WE CAN TOUCH, out on January 21st!!! She will also conduct a World Tour!

  • @TerryNationB7
    @TerryNationB7 Před 2 lety +9

16:34 I agree about the concert version being more affecting in that moment. In the live performance her voice feels so fragile right there, as if she's choking back the emotions and finding it hard to speak the words (which fits perfectly with the words she's singing).

Love this performance. It was first performance/song of Aurora I saw in 1Q2021. From that time I started to check more of her songs and can not stop listening her music up to now :).

And then you have the 5,4,3,2,1 Murder song from the same concert, which is even more captivating. I prefer her live, especially the more stripped down acoustic versions. Her vocals become more prominent and airly. In many production it sounds that her voice lose some bandwith.
I'm really excited about her next album, which will be released this Friday. What I have heard so far (she has released a few songs) is promising, more acoustics and less synth.

Thnx for a wonderful reaction/review. really injoyed it ❣🌹
This is a masterpiece of a song, written when she was 11/12.... she has told she was almost in trance when she wrote it, the world stood still. 💗
Another thing, AURoRA didn't like to perform in her early days. The first time she saw her own performance (which she seldom does) she was in shock, because she didn't remember her own movements.👀 But even up till today, you'll see she "snaps"out of it between each song.
For me AURoRA's so organic and she IS the SOUND and lyrics, and she EMANATEs it to whomever listens. It's so unique, she's the rarest of gems. No wonder we're a bunch of Warriors and Weirdos out here. 😉🎼🎵🎶🎵
This video's very staged, after this one she took much more charge of it herself.... She hates lipstic, and she really didn't want it cause her hair kept getting stuck on it. You see it in the last part of the video. I love the other video's she's made, for me they give a new level to the song/lyrics.
    I'd recommend the short documentary "Nothing's Eternal" (11 mins)😍 czcams.com/video/4vdBorK67tk/video.html
and and ABSOLUTE MUST; the HAIK documentary....maybe not now, but down the AURoRA road, some time? 🥰 1hr 16mins w subtitles... czcams.com/video/n_uW-0HDWoc/video.html
Us, the Weirdos and Warriors will love it 💯🌹💞
All the best from Arctic Norway 🌟✨✨✨

It is SO REFRESHING to see someone 1) allowing themselves to be Effected, 2) not performatively acting Affected for views, and 3) is knowledgeable to discern what makes Aurora innately unique and values it. Anyone can like things, but hearing someone geek out when they find a quintessential example of a craft they know well is such a treat. Thank you! Definitely subscribed.
To notice your reaction the way you're noticing her, I love how at 14:08 you hold out your hand with her, then do a subtle search with your eyes as you become the lyrics. Really cool to see mirror neurons in action like that. :)

Love that you're back to her stuff again. There are so many of her songs, documentaries, and concerts, to see.
The live version first then doing her music videos is a great idea. That shows both aspects of her talent because she does most of her own production now thankfully. (If you see her documentaries you'll see why.)

It's like she has thrown herself into a rift in psychic space-time, and is doing everything in her power to weave it fixed. She can't smile, even at the end, she has to frown sometimes, and sometimes her eyes open wide because she is genuinely surprised by some aspect of her task. Those movements of her arms, hands, fingers - are all absolutely necessary. When she finishes and opens her eyes, she still can't smile or relax because she doesn't know if the task is complete or if her attempt was successful. It's something else!
And I'm not being dramatic. I've explored every possible explanation for what I'm seeing, and this is the best one I could find.

Regarding Runaway (studio), remember she had just discovered what a studio is - and she has has admitted that she wanted to turn ALL the nobs and all the effects and all the overdubs and everything as a teenager. (And she is boss - she is not easy to turn around - which is good - it is what allows her to be her eclectic self). Also remember - the studio version was recorded and produced in 2014 (released during early winter of 2015). Most studio recordings do carry a production date in their soundscape.
    Excellent and enthusiastic review 👍

    @Striderspawn Před rokem

The Documentary "Once Aurora" was very insightful. This track is off her first album, and she was led by her producer to be more pop.
The Documentary, which takes place between her first and second album gives insight into the stress of being thrust into a global stage (panic attacks and crying in a locked bathroom) and her fight for creative freedom on her second release.
It's a visceral expose into her and her evolution as an artist. She didn't like hugging, having her face touched, which you wouldn't know from watching her interact with her fans.
She's grown a lot and has adapted to it.

Your comments are spot on in regard to Aurora's performance style and impact. Just a couple of points, 1/Aurora wrote the origins of this song when she was just 11, 2/ The background landscape in the official video is near her parents' home, 3/ Aurora is a very good dancer and she went to dance classes when she was young. Dance plays more of a role in a number of her official videos in more recent times (i.e. "Queendom", "Cure For Me", "Giving In To The Love"), 4/ Here is Aurora smiling, dancing and having a great time on her USA television debut on the Jimmy Fallon show in 2016 with "Conqueror" (czcams.com/video/IwNoXFgg8lo/video.html). Aurora also has an amazing, quirky personality and in this short Tik Tok clip, made with assistance from a fan, it really shines through, it is called "How To Attract Guys" (czcams.com/video/_cEWy7MNchU/video.html). I hope you can find the time to watch and enjoy these.

Great reaction! Her live performances are always so good. A favourite music video of hers for me is "The River". The visual storytelling is really compelling, im convinced you could watch the video on mute and understand the meaning of the song. I may be completly off base, though, since its all interpretation and its possible without the content and context of the song the meaning could get lost. Looking forward to more reactions, I'm still pretty new to her myself, but everytime ive picked a song of hers to listen to, or performance to watch, ive not been disappointed. Have a good one!

Great Aurora reaction. Runaway was her first music video and I think they overcompensated because it was shot in her back yard and neighbouring forest. It might have felt simple because of this and they might have wanted to do something special. In the scene where she stands before the fjord she was standing in garden of her childhood home (where she still lived at the time). This music video and the one for Conqueror are my list favourites, rest assured, her music videos get better and better and better, and by the third album she direct some of them herself.

On another note. This girl has been through some serious crap in life. Lost 2 friends and 1 family member. One to suicide, another she was dating she lost to a terrorist attack in Norway. For which she wrote the song Little Boy in the Grass.
As someone that has ptsd myself, once I found that out, everything I didn't understand about her just clicked.
(Edit: Not saying she has it. I wouldn't presume such a thing on someone. But certain things she talks about in interviews, and the way she thinks about life, make much more sense to me now.)

With the studio version, I personally think that because this was very early in her career, it was before she had grown as a producer herself so it ended up overproduced by others. In fact, it seems to stand out compared to the rest of the album like it was mixed and produced separately from all the other songs. I honestly think her producers let her down on this one.
There are simple mistakes made in the mastering. For example, Aurora uses a lot of volume dynamics in her singing, which gives a huge amount of emotion and feel. In this production it sounds like they've tried to level it by compressing the s*** out of it. But in every other song, they keep those dynamics and set her voice forward like it's soaring above the mix.

Yeah her motions are not rehearsed. I heard she's said that when she started out she tried to be more still but it was really uncomfortable for her because her body needed to move so now she just lets it out.
She's absolutely immersed in her art and I think that look at the end was her composing herself to land in the real world 🤔🤷‍♂️

This is funny. I see it very differently than you. It may be because I saw the official video first. Well, I like both versions and Aurora's performance is poignant here and there because she doesn't act, she expresses herself. But the "more" of instruments at some points I find to be a beautiful underlining of the vocals (I missed that live) and the hard cuts towards the end of the song are the perfect expression of confusion and despair for me. Slower, less, fading wouldn't have put it that way.

The episode with Aurora is magical, with small conserts during the show and a live consert with Aurora in the end.. But the whole experience shows Aurora and maybe explains alot of who she is and why she performs the way she does :)
Here is a link to the Aurora apisode with english subs :)
