    Great News, Got myself a Quansheng a few months ago. Have been familiar with Chirp for my Baofeng's Much better software than the standard quansheng programming software. Now I should be able to copy my saved channels from my baofeng radio. Lovely Jubbly..

    I note mic gain is set to 2 using Chirp, perhaps crank it up a little. I will check mine out to see if audio is bad. I had lost interest in the Quansheng & only purchased it due to the recent hype, and a curiosity as to the Am mode. Now that I can use Chirp, it may well be worth experimenting with a little, despite the fiddly small butttons. My best radio is Baofeng UV-82. Good size 3x4 button layout & performs very well. Now I know what "SCREN" is in the menu: Scrambler Enabled. Happy Days...

      The AM RX can be much improved in the K5 by changing a 100pf cap to 1nf next to the audio chip
      theres a video on YT how to do it by i thnk he's a Polish ham?

    • @user-em6vi6sj7p
      @user-em6vi6sj7p Před rokem

      Yes i have a couple of UV82 they are great handys
      replacement batteries are common, has a big speaker. Although it has the same incorrectly located resistors across the mic input problem as the UV5R has, which lowers the mic gain and removes high audio frequencies. My favourite Baofeng at the moment is the UV9R, waterproof and everything on it works well, but the new BF18H look promising and probably uses the same new Beken BK4819 chipset as the K5 does.
      the UV5R , UV82 and most Baofengs use the old 1846 chipset

    Why not use the Radio > Query Source > Repeater Book to get the list of repeaters? Already formatted correctly then copy and paste what you want into the main channel window?

    I noticed Chirp doesn't show al the feature that are available in the original software, like the password set option. There's a firmware hack available the makes the radio recieve from 18 to 1300Mhz that works just fine. So the radio can install thirth party firmware, so I have no clue what the "Limits disabled for modified firmware is for" in Chirp? Maybe to stop thirth party firmware from installing when you check that option?

    • @ham-fam

    Quick Question Mr. Ham Fan. Where did you get that programming cable with the straight connector? All the cables I’ve found are at a right angle making insertion difficult as the cable doesn’t allow good insertion. Thanks for an informative video. Cheers!

      @@ham-fam thanks for the quick reply. But I’m looking for a cable that pushes into the radio straight on as yours does. All the cables I’ve found bend 90 degrees making it difficult to push the plug in firmly. Hope I’m making myself clear. I had to literally partially sand off the flexible part of the cable to make it. Does anyone know of a K type plug the goes straight in and does Do the 90 degree angle???

    When I downloaded the new Chirp I don't have the Browser or Info tabs - maybe I got a later version. Also can't see any way of managing the Scan lists so looks like I would still need to use the original CPS software to easily manipulate those.

      I noticed that but first I gotta say Well Done @Ham-Fam for this introduction! I have a brand new K5 and will experiment. So far I have it all downloaded and saved. I will save its .cxf file before I write to it because it isn't clear if the scan lists will be left out or not on the upload. Shit or bust I guess 🙂

    • @alphalunamare
      @alphalunamare Před rokem +1

      It worked, Scan Lists are protected over the work flow. So, thus far, I don't see any advantage in using Chirp over Quanseng's own softwaer at its basic level..

      OOOPs .... CHIRP just programmed UK PMR Channels in for me so that is massive! Well Done. Not that I'll use it for that as I am not sure that it is legal, but it shows what can be done. Best ask 'NotARubicon '? :-)

    I think the mic gain is set for someone holding the radio up to their mouth. You obviously aren't doing that, so you probably need to set it quite high to get sufficient deviation. The fact that you are keying the repeater OK but are not hear very well indicates that the problem is mostly mic gain.

    • @user-em6vi6sj7p
      @user-em6vi6sj7p Před rokem

      @@ham-fam Yes but not by much, a hacked reflash can make it much louder, I dont know any chinese handy that has enough mic gain, also if a hacked reflash can access the factory settings then the user might be able to control the Deviation too! like you can with some Business Icom handys, i'd like to be able to edge the 2.5k peak dev up to 3k, a 20% increase on such low dev makes quite a difference, with little affect on the adjacent channel

    Chirp has no way to set scanning channels. After Programming scan simply stops working. There’s a bunch of other features you can’t access as well. This is definitely not production ready.
