If thereâs a video game series defined by an endless thirst for vengeance, bloodshed, and all around brutality, it would be God of War. Since the PS2 era, weâve followed a young Kratos in his quest for revenge against the gods who have wronged him, all the way to an aged Kratos whoâs just trying to look after his son and honor his deceased wife. We saw what became of the Greek pantheon in God of War III, and as of 2018, itâs looking like weâre going to see a similar story with the gods of Norse mythology. As always, itâs our job to examine the series as a whole and ask the questions: Who are the legendary heroes? Who are the neutral characters just trying to survive? And who deserves to rot in the depths of Hades for all eternity? #GodofWar #GoW

Personally, I would've put Poseidon a bit lower, mainly due to what we learn about Poseidon while exploring his chambers in God of War III.
While Kratos was in Poseidon's chambers, he can find some notes about Poseidon noticing Zeus' changes, ever since Kratos opened Pandora's Box. It got to the point where Poseidon was considering that he might need to overthrow his brother in order to maintain the order of the world.
He also imprisioned his wife tho

Kratos called it when he said, "We will be the gods we choose to be. Not those who have been."
Kratos is a great character, but just because he was used does not excuse him from killing a lot of innocent people and dooming the world because of his seek of vengeance.
But would he have done all of that if it hadnât been for the Olympians screwing with his life? I think not.
@@Daily_Bassist He was used, but a lot of his choices were made by him, he knows he is a monster, he chose to give his life to Ares knowing how evil and bloodthirsty the god is, he chose his own life over innocent people many times, after being free and becoming a god he invaded many cities and killed many innocents, in GOW3 he does not hesitate to flood the world, sacrifice lives, spread plagues, block the sun. He has changed, but there is no denying how much how of a horrible person he was.
I agree but I think Ares and Zeus were still much worse.
I'm surprised Aphrodite isn't on here. She's likely the closest thing the series has to a truly neutral character. Although she doesn't appear very often, so I guess her absence makes sense.
i mean Aphrodite doesn't really much important as she is known as "goddess of beauty" (i think i made it wrong)
I seem to remember the Valkyries being explained in God of War. After being cursed, they stopped delivering people to their rightful place after death, so Hel quickly filled up with lost souls. So many were now entering Hel that the realm overflowed dead people back into Midgard, and that's why the Draugr are roaming about.

Great video, but I respectfully disagree with the placement and assessment of Hephaestus. Hephaestus should be placed at the highest in the grey area, mainly because he was a good father to Pandora, and he only tried to bring Kratos' death in order to protect Pandora.

In my opinion, the most good would be Yoshi. He rescued Mario and Luigi when they were babies, he is Marioâs best friend, heâs friendly and always helps out Mario on his adventures. He lets Mario ride him on his back and letâs Mario jump off of him despite that he falls into an abyss because of Mario, he never gets angry about it.
There is a really REALLY good argument that Zeus should have gotten the Silver medal(possibly even Gold)of Evil.

I believe Heppy is more in the Neutral area because he's merely trying to deter Kratos from sacrificing his daughter, which even Kratos acknowledges after he kills him. And it is very well established the deities were corrupted by the despair from Pandora's Box. So to see Hephaestos turn to evil for the sake of a loved one is something to be admired when everyone else became a jerkass.
I would put The last spartan in the gray area; yes he took part in kratos's conquest of Greece but he has unwavering loyalty to Kratos and his homeland. He even even traveled to the island of creation, surpass all the traps and monsters to gain an audience with the sisters and undo Zeus destruction

You left out Theseus, Perseus, and Icarus. Theseus would likely be in the Bad to Evil category since he served Sisters of Fate.

Kratos being in the Grey Area makes sense. He was a ruthless careless sociopath but in GOW 2018 hes a changed man. Learning from his mistakes and being a better man and to me thats great development for his Character Arc. He knows he messed up and tried to kill himself with the Blade Of Olympus. He survived though and left Greece since he doomed it to its destruction for his vengeance.
Him being much older now he understands the monster he used to be and is very different then he was back in his younger days. He wants Atreus to be his own person and not a younger version of what he used to be.

That's something that can be forgivable. But... I don't know how well even Kratos would be able to stand against them. They can kill things just by walking by. They hardly need to put in an effort to break things. I think only Nyarlathotep is the only one who does really does things.
Honestly, I would cut Hades some slack, he actually cared for Athena, Poseidon and his wife Persephone.

@@Daily_Bassist A third of each year Persephone has to stay in the Underworld since she ate the Pomegranate seeds, not exactly forever. He did kidnap her though and since Zeus approved of the marriage she remained as Queen of the Underworld. And yeah, that's why I said "some" slack, unlike Poseidon and Zeus, Hades is not a mass murderer and a cheater like them, and actually is shown having some humanity and respect for his wife and caring for his family.

If the GoW lore is going to be faithful to the original, Kratos is the grandpa of Hel (Goddess of the dead), Sleipnir (8 legged horse of Odin), Jomungard (The world serpent) and Fenrir (The wolf who kills Odin), and the great-grandpa of Skoll and Hati (the devourers of the Sun and Moon respectively).
Oh Goddess I love this story, I got the latest game and Its amazing. Out of all of the good and evil videos it always is my favorite. And out of all
of characters, Kratos was the the most relatable of the video game characters.

It's more likely that Odin's gonna turn out to be someone who's continually making mistakes and who wishes to turn back time and fix things.
But instead ends up sending Atraus back... who'd befriend a young Odin and start the cycle to begin with.
I could see the end of GoW's Norse story being where Odin closing his eye willingly dies by Fenrir or whomever's hand. Asking only they not make the mistakes he did that lead to Ragnarok.
Thor in the myths is a real dick, Odin however is more a guy who just wants to learn and keeps making regrets
