      I commented on Janey’s channel, “Dig, Plant, Water, Repeat” . She just got some barn cats to help with a rodent population. I don’t encourage more birds to come to my yard with water fountains etc. as I already have enough mature trees for them to nest. The neighbours cats do not wear bells on their collars in our urban area, and I dread every spring when I find baby birds clawed in my yard.😢

    Benjamin is so cute, with his "there that should do it". I have a 10 year old son, and i always found it cute and amazing when they start to use expressive sentences that usually come from parents or teachers. Lol When you went out to plant, when it was overcast after the rain, wow, you can really see all the beauty and colour throughout your property on camera, with the cloudy skys. So pretty! What a beautiful property you have all put together. Love it.

  • @peggyriordan9857
    @peggyriordan9857 Před 7 dny +238

    FYI: You can put the baby bird back in the nest. It's not true that the Mom/Dad will reject then due to being touched by a human. We have had to do that numerous times! Just make sure you are wearing a big hat, a rain coat that can go into the washer, gloves b/c you will get poop bombed while you are doing this. My hubs and I learned this the first time we had to do that for Robins.

    • @laraemitchell9064
      @laraemitchell9064 Před 7 dny +44

      If they are fledging birds, they leave the nest and the parents will continue to feed and care for them for a while as they learn to fly.

    • @elizabethmitchell0071
      @elizabethmitchell0071 Před 6 dny +13

      Right. The only birds that actually can affect are predatory birds...owls, hawks, vultures, eagles etc. Those types of birds, you leave and let nature and the parents take care of.

    We have a koppert lab in our town, here in ontario, Canada. We live in a town that has always had the most greenhouse production/growers, and so the farmers use these for their crops. When people approach our town from far away even, they think they are seeing the northern lights, the sky glows purple and pink from led greenhouse lights. Lol I have been using those hanging tags for a long time. Actually, when ever you buy any hanging baskets or pots with flowers from nurseries here, they already come with the hanging tags. They work fantastic.

    I’m glad you’re teaching everyone about using beneficial insects. It’s a growing enterprise and I hope your influence helps spread their use from home gardeners to commercial agriculture. PS: I wouldn’t find it distracting in the slightest if you wore sunglasses outside. Cataracts come from cumulative sun damage. Ask me how I know. It’s scary for me to know that I have eye surgery in my future because I didn’t take it seriously when I was younger. I’m 69 now. Good your children are wearing sunglasses!

    I love how you understand the importance of not trying to CONTROL AND MANIPULATE nature Laura !!! You were taught well !!! Also, Benjamin and Samantha were so adorable. Benjamin is SO SWEET and he wants to understand....pondering what you are telling him and patient to listen. GREAT MOM AND DAD SKILLS AT WORK !!! 💥🙌💥 LOVED THE RAIN SEGMENT. As for the RED, I have a feeling you will become a fan of red in the near future. Your property is so huge, I'm sure there is a perfect place where red will fulfill a purpose aesthetically and practically (for the hummingbirds). In fact, I think that hummingbird buzzing close to your head was them thanking you "in advance" 🥰🤩.💕💕💕

  • @MicheleLHarvey
    @MicheleLHarvey Před 7 dny +15

    Birds are fledging now (last week of June - first week of July.) It's best to keep of your your pets indoors at this time while the babies learn to fly. Also that big swinging movement hummingbirds make is a mating dance to impress the ladies and they'll do it throughout the mating season, so there was probably a girl nearby.. And interestingly, bees don't 'see' red, although they do see orange & yellow, so it'll be interesting to see how many visit your red flowers.

    I just love a quick summer rain & thunder storm but we don’t get them like that here north of Seattle. I call it “East Coast Rain” as I grew up in PA. My husband laughs but we were visiting SC and one came through and after 20 years together he finally got my reference. Thanks for sharing the storm in the video.

    I can't wait to see the RED fill in!! That Dahlia was perfect. It looks very much like one I got off-brand last year that I've been searching for ever since.

    I am excited to see the red in your garden. Sometimes you have to switch things up. Thanks for sharing your new pest control techniques I think that is awesome. Keep these ideas coming love it.

    Loved that you planted red!! Would you ever consider having a section of your garden space dedicated to only red? I would love that.. I think it would be so beautiful!! 🌹🌼🌹

      She said red makes the area feel a lot dryer because it’s already so dry there which is why she doesn’t plant a lot of it

    Bless poor little Beau's heart. He was so tongue-tied! Thank goodness Laura is articulate and could explain why he was there and what his company was selling!

    It is going to be beautiful. I think that area is perfect for some reds. You really make gardening fun. I love how you are so patient with the kids and how you include them in whatever you are doing. They are lucky to have you both as parents. The beneficial insects release is so interesting. I hope you will keep us updated; I think this is a good alternative to spraying. Also, what type of microphone are you using now? It seems to work well.
    Have a blessed day everyone.

    Those are pretty reds, not shocking. The white in the background is good. Red colors in the landscape recede and they need a lighter color behind them. I think it will be beautiful!!!
