  • So I am going to apologize in advance as this is a BIG update and a long video. Since this is a pretty big milestone I try to hit as many areas as I can. While I of course still love this truck I want to highlight the issue areas where some things are no long perfect.
    As always thank you for watching and if there are any questiosn please don't hesitate to reach out.

      Good to know I just picked up my 21 AT4 3.0 and loving it so far! Although I’m getting an estimated 360 miles to a tank, 14MPG but I do have a lift on 35’s. I was hoping for better MPG I could also be off on my calibration. The MPG difference in the 22 plus is nuts.

There is some literature about these using oil and I've been checking every few hundred miles and still showing overfull. Crossing my fingers. 18K+ on my 21 RST.. Two complaints, 1. The crank no start issue was finally fixed on the 4th visit. Software was reprogrammed, 3.0 now cranks longer, never had a repeat of the crank no start issue. 2. The stop/start, I pretty much have myself trained to hit the deactivate switch after starting. My mileage is about the same as yours. My best is 39.5 for a 50 mile segment. I've met that 4 times. I'm thinking that's the best this engine will do. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

      You’re lucky, my 21 Silverado 3.0 started with that then all the injectors, def tank, pump and hoses, particulate filter, fuel filter @ 23,000 miles, CPU and EPU and now the 19 months that it has been in the shop all the sensors have been replaced. But when it was on the road I had a 43.5 MPG for a 50 mile run.

    I agree with you I absolutely hate the start/stop feature. I try like heck to remember to turn it off! My teenage son who rides with me all the time has even started to help me remember to turn it off. My other complaint with my truck is the radio will shuffle preset stations every once in a while. But overall I am happy with the 3.0L and I love the truck. Diesel prices are crazy but I am still getting away cheaper than the truck I had before that I was only getting 13 mpg. So I’m doing fine with that.

    Love your videos, I have a 21 high country 3 L, 22,000 miles. I’ve had absolutely zero issues the truck is wonderful. I experience after four months of ownership the rear clunking sound backing out of my driveway just like you mentioned, I tightened up the shackle bolts but the noise didn’t go away, then I jacked it up put it on jackstands and put a little grease between the leaf springs And then the noise went away, my fuel mileage also averages between 28-32 miles per gallon highway the biggest factor to me is wind, if I have a headwind going 75 mph I’ll lose 4 miles per gallon, if I have a tail when I’ll gain 4 miles per gallon. I do have one crazy thing it’s been doing since day one and I’ve never heard anybody complain of this, when I am driving 80 mph on the highway and I have heavy Cross winds, the roof of the truck probably around the drip rail right hand side I hear tremendous howling so loud it scares you at first. But it takes 80 mph or faster on a windy day, if I back it down to 75 mph then the noise goes away. I program myself to every time I start the truck I turn off auto stop. I’ve never had the long crank at start up like a lot of people have complained about, which I know it’s an easy fix with the reflash. keep up the good work, let’s all hope for 300,000 miles.

    That jittery suspension is a major reason I went with my 2019 ram; they have 5 link coil suspension, and there is absolutely none of that type of jitter, rides more like a unibody SUV and is definitely the best riding truck (and the optional air is even better but suffers from cold weather issues). Appreciate your honesty, I was very interested in the little diesel but I think if I bought a chevy tomorrow I'd probably go for the 2.7 turbo instead, gas is just much easier for me to deal with.

    Also, I have the same rear end clunk you describe. 9,000 miles on mine. Went in to the dealer to have the seat heaters finally enabled and asked them to check that. Just check engine light a couple of times on long road trips, but went off in a day after the trip. I believe it might be the diesel fuel from other cities. Because while driving around town at home light never lights up. I drove from Fallbrook SoCal to Redding NoCal near the border with Oregon. Besides that I love the truck. My wifes best friend has a 2020 Silverado with 53k miles, her oil pan got rusted 2 times! Dealer replaced it at no cost, but if it happens under the warranty 2 times, I'm affraid it will happen after the warranty, she will have to pay for it If this happens once t me, I'm selling the truck, I'm not going to expect to change the oil pan every 25k miles. Is the 29-30 mpg combined, or just highway. I can't get more than 24 combinesd. In the highway I cna get up to 29 30 as well.

  • @backroadswingrider854
    @backroadswingrider854 Před rokem +2

    It’s interesting that you mention the suspension kicking out in the rear. I live in a small town in West Texas. Out on the highway it is 75 mph speed limit. Crossing the railroad tracks with this 2020 3.0 little max on the highway at that speed is a little bit of a butt pucker. It absolutely sends this truck dancing in the rear. I had a 2017 Z71 before this with a stouter suspension and it took those tracks just fine. I was talking to my son about it and he thinks I should change the shocks. I tend to agree as this 2020 has took those tracks to the dance from day one. I think that is absolutely my biggest gripe. I’ve had this truck since new, the only issue has been a screen lock, radio freeze and rear camera stayed on. I was in Biloxi, Ms at the time and took it to the dealership and they reflashed it and said the brake system also needed reflashed. They said there was a tech bulletin on that, however I never noticed a brake issue. The antenna was the first thing I replaced as it bounced on my garage door entering and leaving. Put in a shortie and it has worked well. This has been a great truck, the paint is weak, I have countless rock chips so much so it’s noticeable a lot. My old 17 Silverado had very few and it was black. Paint was much better on old truck. This RST is the Northsky blue and it has hundreds of chips. But, I’m old and retired and don’t much care about looks anymore. This has been a very dependable truck with plenty of torque to pull my enclosed trailer. Much better than my old 5.3. I am going to change those factory shocks shortly as that suspension is absolutely my biggest gripe. So much to the point I think it’s dangerous the way it bounces and kicks like a mule. It should grip the road and it does not.

We are looking for a vehicle to possibly replace our 2014 4runner which sits in the carport while we drive our commuters (terrible mpg on 4runner). Looking for something with decent mileage that could possibly replace a commuter and 4runner at the same time, but don’t really want a hybrid or small sized sedan. 3rd row hybrid SUV’s with AWD get mid ish 30s mpg. Luxury SUV’s start at 45-50k ish. This seems like it would totally fit the Bill! I’ve never owned a diesel and am not mechanically inclined, would taking the truck in to the dealership for maintenance offset the benefits of the truck? Specially when considering diesel prices? @@kingsproductions9760 I have this setup too in a 2021 Sierra Denali 1500. Absolutely love it. There's really not a whole lot of extra stuff to do with the diesel. Standard oil change. You do have to add DEF (diesel exhaust fluid), but if you can fill your gas tank at a fuel pump, you have the technical capability to add the DEF. The other maintenance item is the fuel filter, which is super easy to replace. With that said, I've not had to replace my fuel filter yet and I have about 24,000 miles on my truck. The computer tells you the % life left on the filter so you can certainly plan it with one of your oil changes. Other than that, there's not really a whole lot of extra to do with the diesel over the gasser.

Then check engine light comes back on GM had to have a field engineer come look at it and he says it’s a faulty camshaft cover. It’s good for a while. Then here comes the check engine light again. Not to mention I have barely been able to get 22 mpg. This thing has been nothing but frustration. And this thing only has 42k miles on it! 🤬

    Does your truck rear end have limited slip rear end? A limited slip on wet roads when making a turn will slip then grab on the other side making a rear end fish tail.

    These engine are crap.. we are amazed to spend 50k or more on a truck and doing video every 15k miles cause we had “ minor issue”. I bought mine last june 2022.5 chevy silverado duramax.. in the first 3 weeks i had to replace an airbag, a camera lane assistance and i had a knocking noise every time i would start and stop which apparently on the fcb group there’s a whole bunch of it..not to mention we try to justify all the people with issue saying every group has complainers which is simply true to a much lower point..with the exception of a few most of these truck won’t reach passed 150k miles without having to spend thousands in repair, my old honda civic is about to reach 280k miles on all original components…not to mention the overall gm treatment, i received a letter from them saying my heated steering cheap could be delayed till may 2026 !! After having paid for it and all the newer model get out with all installed parts..sold the truck last month and never going back !! Good luck, you’re gonna need it

    With the additional cost per gallon of diesel fuel vs gasoline, more expensive maintenance, and additional cost of purchasing a diesel engine, which is more economical if the truck is not needed for towing?

    • @16vjohnny
      @16vjohnny Před rokem +2

      Depends on how you use it. Where I live diesel is 30% more than gas. It used to be that you had to do big miles and do a lot of towing to take advantage of a diesel. Don’t get me wrong, I love the 3.0L, but If I had to do it all over again I’d go with the 5.3.

    • @chazman4461
      @chazman4461 Před 8 měsíci

      The 3.0 is not for towing. It was built for fuel mileage. The 3/4 ton trucks are for towing. 8,000lbs vs 17000 lbs for towing ratings.

      So what’s your point? You literally said they are not complaints then went and said every truck has these complaints. Like I said they are very minor, but I can tell you the trucks I have had previously did not have the brake squealing and spring knocking issues. I also didn’t have sensors that randomly drew MIL lights.
