I can understand how people prefer the original..But her wailing over the guitar solo in this version is magical and puts it way over the top ..this is the perfect pop song..
i can't see why anybody could prefer the original to this version- i loved the original but over the years it had started to sound dated- this version totally transforms the record and shows how her voice matured in the mid 80s and is far better suited to the song- she did a similar thing on the directors cut album but she changed everything in those revised versions- i think this is outstanding
I have tried. The original version has artistic merit, but this vocal transcends... I'm usually a fan of an original, but this is just a beautiful remake of her own song.
My mom introduced me to Kate bush when I was a teen, and this version has always been the one I loved more than the original studio version but it always seems hard to find. The other day my preteen daughter just said to me “can I play for you a song that I like?” . It was Kate Bush. ♡
I played this to my niece when she was very young. After that she always dragged me to the record player to play "Wuthering Heights". To this day, now with 30, she remembers Kate. I think I did a good job as an uncle ;)
Bought the original, this version is my preferred one ,Kate’s voice and the guitar solo at the end make it an ending that you could listen to forever!Magic
I love both versions, but this one really does it for me. To me, it feels like Cathy's passion, her love for Heathcliff gives her this substance, like she could almost will herself into being with him from the afterlife. I can feel the song in my bones.
In 87' I was at a summer party, and the host's high school sweetheart (named Cathy as it happens) had dumped him earlier that day in advance of college so he was bombed by nightfall. The standard party sound was typically metal, so it was a shock to the system when this kid broke protocol and dropped this album onto the turntable. The piano started, and over a tide of laughter - and a few "what the fuck"s - he launched into a wobbly ballet choreographed by his misery and the booze in desperate effort to exorcize the demon. This was a metal crowd like I said, so his attempt to start the song over for an encore performance was immediately shut down. But I fell in love with Kate Bush there and then, becoming a dedicated fan for life. And I've always preferred this version over the original.

Let her in Heathcliff
That low note she hits on 'my only Mah-ster' and that completely in-control vocalizing she does perfectly at the end are just unbelievable.

While this version is good, I find the first recording more passionate, more emotional.

Possibly the most haunting song ever written and definitely the best guitar solo at end and musical score
This New Vocal is a masterpiece.
This version has the most accomplished singing, and is the easiest to understand.
Both versions needed to exist :
Recorded in 1986. See how much more control she had gained in her voice in 8 years? Amazing.

The guitar solo was finally extended. Brilliant playing!
RIP Ian Bairnson, creator of the brilliant guitar solo that so elevates this masterpiece work.
After listening this version, I still think that both of Emily Brontë and Kate Bush are genius. This song changed many things.

I love both versions. This woman is wonderful.
