Young racer Cole Trickle, from Eagle Rock, California, has years of experience in open-wheel racing, winning championships with the World of Outlaws. Originally setting his sights on the Indianapolis 500, Cole realizes that "to win in Indy I'd need a great car, but stock cars are all the same". Chevrolet dealership tycoon Tim Daland recruits him to race for his team in the NASCAR Cup Series, bringing former crew chief and car builder Harry Hogge out of retirement to lead Cole's pit crew (Harry had left NASCAR a year prior to avoid investigation involving the death of driver Buddy Bretherton). After Cole sets a fast time in a private test at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Hogge builds him a new Chevrolet Lumina.
Cole makes his first start at Phoenix, where he has difficulty adjusting to the larger NASCAR stock cars and communicating with his crew, while being intimidated on the track by Winston Cup Champion and dirty driver Rowdy Burns; these obstacles, combined with crashes and blown engines, prevent Cole from finishing the next three races at Bristol, Dover, and Rockingham. Cole confesses to Harry that he does not understand any common NASCAR terminology, leading Harry to put him through rigorous training. This pays off at Darlington, when Cole uses a slingshot maneuver from the outside line to overtake Rowdy and win his first race.
The rivalry between Cole and Rowdy intensifies throughout the season until the Firecracker 400 at Daytona, where both drivers are seriously injured after being caught in "The Big One". Recovering in Daytona Beach, Cole develops a romantic relationship with Dr. Claire Lewicki, a neurosurgeon at a local hospital. NASCAR President Big John brings Rowdy and Cole together in a meeting and warns them that he and his sport will no longer tolerate any misbehavior from the two rivals. The two bitter rivals soon become close friends after having dinner and settling their differences by smashing rental cars in a race on the beach, per Big John's persuasion.
Daland hires hot-shot rookie Russ Wheeler to fill Cole's seat until Cole returns, and then expands his team, with Daland now fielding two teams - the second car driven by Wheeler, of which Harry disapproves. Though Cole shows signs of his old self, he falls into a new rivalry with Russ, leading to an engine failure at Atlanta. Daland offers no help to Cole or his team, as he is defensive of his new driver. At North Wilkesboro, Russ blocks Cole's path during their pit stop, and later forces Cole into the outside wall on the last lap to win the race. Cole retaliates by crashing into Russ' car after the race, leading to a fight between Harry, Daland, and both of Cole and Russ's pit crews, with Daland firing both Cole and Harry in the process.
Rowdy learns he has to undergo brain surgery to fix a broken blood vessel, and asks Cole to drive his car at the Daytona 500 so his sponsor will pay for the year. Cole reluctantly agrees and convinces Harry to return as his crew chief. Hours prior to the race, Harry discovers metal in the oil pan, a sign of engine failure, and manages to procure a new engine from Daland, who still believes in his former driver's promise. During the race, Cole's car is spun out by Russ and suffers a malfunctioning transmission, but the combined efforts of Harry's and Daland's pit crews manage to fix the problem and get Cole back on the lead lap. On the final lap, Russ predicts that Cole will attempt his signature slingshot maneuver from outside, but Cole tricks him with a crossover, overtaking him from the inside to win his first Daytona 500.
Cole drives into Victory Lane, where he and his pit crew celebrate with Claire. He approaches Harry, sitting alone, who is lost for words. Cole asks Harry to walk with him and Harry agrees, challenging him to a foot race to Victory Lane.

This movie started me on a 30 year love of NASCAR
I know what you mean! One of my top 15 movies of all time
Top Gun on wheels... Loved this movie and this video... Had no idea that certain scenes from the movie had actually happened in real life... Good stuff...Thanks for sharing... Thanks to Scott on Tape too.
It’s great if you’re a nascar fan. The fans hold this movie as the best racing movie out there.
Hoping they decide to ride the marverick hype and do a sequel to this
Yup, this and Stroker Ace

lol I walked through in video over 10 years ago and knew right away it was really filmed there. Know that movie like the back of my hand.
Cool movie ...im a Nascar fan and I always loved Days Of Thunder. I follow Scott On Tape and his videos Rock! Thanks for the video 😊
That is a geek out moment. Thanks so much for that. Unbelievable
I was 11 the summer it came out . I saw it 3 times that summer . I saw it at a drive in once . I remember myself, my best friend and other kids cheering during the last race. 😂 Its a cool memory . I’ve loved this movie ever sense .
Rubbin' is racing! So cool seeing Scott in your videos! He's one of my favorites. You both rock. I really love Days Of Thunder. Very underrated in my opinion. Great stuff guys!
I can say I was all about the film all through my childhood. Even in 4th grade I revisited it again. I saw the movie in theaters.
Back when NASCAR was hitting it's peak.
I was born in '90 so I didn't get to enjoy it in theaters but it one of my all time favorite movies. Yea the racing scenes were played up for Hollywood but the movie really showed the importance of the driver and crew chief relationship. With how they need to be speaking the same language in order to get the car to handle correctly and ultimately win races.
I LOVE DAYZ OF THUNDER⚡️
Rubbin is Racin
I had the wonderful experience of basically living in a movie theater in the years of 88,89,90..my babysitter owned a small theater in our town.. I remember this one played for weeks there. I liked Days of Thunder.. y'all are perfect team for filming locations.. the barn was 😎👍
DOT is a great movie! I wish there were more locations to this movie!! Thanks for the support
This is one of the great movies that I screened when I was a projectionist in the 90s.
One of my absolute FAVORITE movies!!! This was a great video!!!
The movie premiered in Charlotte, they had the car out from of the theater too. I miss the 90s!
You guys on point with this one. Those pallets u can see in the movie blocking out the windows in the background of shot! Crazy. Great video
Stroker Ace was the best racing movie ever!!! Burt Reynolds classic!!!
Very cool video! I love seeing these filming locations. It really brings the movies to life. Great job!! You and Scott really make a great team too!!
Thanks so much!! I agree I enjoy working with Scott!
I had to pause the video for a second to say I'm glad the barn is still standing. Thank you for doing this video. I appreciate your work
Thanks Steve! We loved making this for y’all!
Great video. Enjoyed that
DoT is one of the few films that has a legacy that really stayed after the movie. its a great film and had aged very well
Very detailed and precise... You guys would make an awesome duo... Enjoyed this lots...
This was a fun one to make! I enjoy filming with Scott! Thanks for the support!
Very cool!!
Nice
No way they filmed that scene on the bottom floor where you are saying. To have the car sideways and still have room for toolboxes and Duvall walking around it is impossible.
Have you visited the barn in person?
Cool video. Hadn't seen your channel before but seeing Scott on Tape here you gotta be good people.
Heck yeah Shawn! Glad to see ya here! Subscribe and stick around!
❤❤❤❤
Thanks guys. Cool that you found the spot and you were able to line the beams and where the lights were. I've yet to see this movie and it's long over due but it will happen.
You haven't seen it???
@@joshblanks9479 No and I don't really know why I've been avoiding it for so long lol. I do plan to watch it though.
I think I saw it in the theater. My dad loved nascar and called it BS that’s NOT how racing goes!! Lots of one liners that became memes, I still give it a thumbs up and watch it every year or so.
Great video Bake. Love my fellow Canuck as well. Love spending time with Scott hope we see you soon as well sorry we missed you when we were in Alabama
Hey hey! No worries we can catch up at a later date! I get around! See ya thanks for the support!

The music that’s playing while your going and at Hendrix museum, is typical 80s and 90s movie theme music.
Yep that’s why I picked it! Glad that came through in the video. Thanks for the support.
Days of Thunder has become a "cult classic" of racing movies in later years. Probably, more appreciated now than it was in 1990. And, if there is a D of T 2 in the works? It will only add to the appreciation of the first...just like Top Gun...Top Gun Maverick.
Great Work Gents! Always enjoy you taking us guys back that lived these movies when they first came out.👍👊
Loved this video! I was a huge Bill Elliott fan. We attended a lot...and I do mean a lot! ....of races from the late 70's through the late 90's. Living in the south western area of Virginia, there were so many tracks we could be at within a short drive. Days of Thunder was a really fun movie for race fans...and those who did not know much about racing. Thanks for doing this!! Really enjoyed it! Hope you have a great week ahead and God bless!
I was excited to find the location of where he was with the car… everyone said that was a studio! Wrong! Thanks for the support
One of the best movies ever made 💪💪
I agree I love it
Top gun with stock cars. Good movie
This video has finally allowed me to sleep at night haha I have been wondering for years if the actually filmed in the barn
lol Randy AND Scott…I LOVED this! Thank you BOTH so much. I’m older than you guys. I love Tom Cruise in WHAT EVER he was in! This is a GREAT VIDEO. 😎🥰❤️
Great video. How did curiosity what camera are you using in your video?
iPhone 13 Pro Max
I used to live a few miles from the barn right there in the heart of Mooresville. Fun fact this was the first movie location I would regularly visit before starting to document them for CZcams. Great video big bake!
Still my fav movie ever
I would be willing to bet that the only part of that barn in the movie was the pic with the ramps going into top. The rest was taped in a studio somewhere.
I will take that bet. After we bet I will send you the video of Rick Hendricks talking about it.

But now there’s Chase & He is The Man
and after seeing this I actually have a lot more to an appreciation for what they’re doing there

Great video! We took the city Chevrolet car to the schools around Gastonia nc so the kids could see it along with our dirt super late models.
Cool! I bet that was a fun experience! Thanks for the support!
The scene where they got pulled over by the cops and lady grabbed his stuff was filmed in Astor, Fl we actually drove through set while they was filming it, my grandma lived about a half mile a way
Now Cole, when the little tack goes into the red, and reads 9,000 RPM, that’s bad!
Which is funny because by the late 90s they were easily turning 9200 to 9500 rpm without issue especially at Atlanta.... shows how much engine technology developed from 1990 onward
I love you both.
Excellent ! Y'all make it feel like your kids again seeing this barn and putting it all together . Love the energy here ! Great job ❤️
We had a great time! It was a lot of fun!
I was 22 in 1990! I was paranoid I was going to get drafted for Desert Storm. Thank god it never happened. But Days of Thunder was VERY popular when it came out. At least here in FL it was. Hardee’s even had a promotion where every week they were giving out “Hot Wheels” type replicas of all the racecars from the movie. I collected all of them several times over. Then in 1991, it was ALL OVER cable TV constantly, along with Hunt for Red October. 🤘😎🤘🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Days of thunder and Hunts for red October…. Ahhh man two of my favorites! I watch HFRO at least 5 times a year! Cool story man! That was an awesome time to be young! Thanks for the support! Make sure to subscribe! Talk to ya later- BIG BAKE
Ate soo much Hardee's in that era I had too many superflo toys. I think I got city once but never Mello or the Hardee's car. 😂😂😂
Hi man,i am youtuber like you but in france,i am new subs,i see you on adam ;)
Thank you so much for the sub and the support!
Great video! IDK about the find, there is the magic of Hollywood but it doesnt look like a car would fit in there.
I have the movie on VHS & DVD. Isn't there another seen up stairs after the accident with Cole & Harry with a big ramp out front?
I haven't watched the whole thing in I dont know when, usually watch up till Dover, then skip through the rest. Some great scenes of the way the tracks used to look and some great one-liners.
This was filmed during the hight of NASCAR 78-98, a time when an independent could still get in. A great time in racing!
Thanks for the support. Go check out the barn in person and have your phone so you can look up the movie and compare. I don’t say it’s the spot unless I have 100% proof and it’s all there. The stall is bigger in person than it looks on film.
You can see the floor supports they placed on the first floor to support all the weight they put above. The floor where they had the car above was anolium
The issue with the barn is that the spot is too small to have fit the car in there sideways. They most likely recreated the interior inside a studio.
When did you visit the barn?
@@BIGBAKEONTHEMOVE
Great question
Yea, when did Ya visit The Barn
@CamaroAmx
@@CSDonohue11 oh so you didn’t visit the barn?
@@BIGBAKEONTHEMOVE Nope
I haven’t ever been there
But I also haven’t ever commented that it looks too small to have done the filming there because the car wouldn’t fit
That BARN LOOKS HUGE
and it was 30 years ago so in a lot better shape
I did live in Florence , SC when DOT dropped on Home Video though
& We used to take cruises all over out there checking out old plantations & stuff like that
But We did not ever knowingly make it to The Barn
I wouldn’t be surprised if I actually did though.
I’m from Vegas but lived in S.C. during 7th grade & 10th-12th
& It would have been nice to think of going to those spots when out there
Darlington Raceway was close enough to the movie for Me back then
Now days I’ll check any movie spots if I can
You should do a video on
The Biltmore Estate
We went there 1x too and that place was/is amazing
So…. No. Not that barn. 😁
That’s what I’ve got You for , Buddy
Thanks ✌️🙏
Did you visit the Barn??
It wasn't rushed, we started shooting without a finished script and Bob Towne was on set writing for some of the scenes as we were shooting.
Hello! We just went off the research data. Were you involved with the filming or production of Days of Thunder?
Yes I was, your video brought back so old memories.@@BIGBAKEONTHEMOVE
@@paulmurphey5294 any cool stories you wanna share? Maybe fun facts?
I grew up in Daytona Beach and was delivering house paint for a local company named Color Wheel Paints. They did a bunch of filming all over town and I remember being held up in traffic because they were filming. Quick fact as well is Tom Cruises buddy John Travolta came in the store to pick colors for his house. There is a place called Spruce Creek fly in and Travolta had a place out there as well as a bunch of Nascar drivers. Heck Mark Martin called our store one day and I had a conversation with him about colors for his house. Pretty cool stuff.
Tom Cruise got a speeding ticket in Darlington SC during filming. I’m from the area and there’s still a pic of the ticket floating around on Facebook lol
The wires go to the upstairs lights that's where the car was built if you watch the movie they had ramps in front of the barn leading up to the the top of it
Wrong. Absolutely wrong. Sorry. Do more research.
top gun with wheels
Yessss!
Last known location of the Cole trickles race car was at Kings Dominion amusement park in Richmond the amusement park has almost all the Wayne's world movie props and a Stan mikita's restaurant if you're in the area I advise you take a gander at it
Sweet info the 46 car used in the movie is at Hendricks motors currently. But I will def look into that. I’m a Wayne’s 🌍 World fan
No don't forget in the movie he also drove a black NASCAR I think towards the beginning of the movie that's the one that Kings Dominion has possession of or had but if it's still there you can touch it
Fun fact ... days of thunder was on a tight time schedule I read somewhere and also I think Entertainment Tonight and E covered to behind the scenes. Explaining g why... Tom cruise is from liverpool ny small urban community 1 mile from Syracuse N.y... also have you seen American Dresser.. some filming took place in California Syracuse
And east Syracuse ny

It was confirmed by Dale Earnhardt Jr that parts of the movie were filmed there because he would drive down to watch them. He lived with his dad on Lake Norman not very far from there. Just because you didn’t see a shiny floor in the upper part of the barn doesn’t mean they didn’t use something that made it look like a waxed floor.
I have never heard anyone say they filmed upstairs. There are several ways to prove they filmed downstairs though. If you have a link send it to me on my Instagram please. BIG BAKE ON THE MOVE
In the windows above it we're looking the blue ones that's where they filmed it at loft
Wrong again! Sorry
The shiny floor was a metal surface plate used to set the cars up, and it wasn't filmed inside the barn.
Not a fan of the movie...but love the videos you two put out👊👊
Thanks so much for the support!
As you are looking at the front of the barn, where the ramps were in the movie, over to the far right of the barn is where the car sat sideways where you could see a strip of windows in the movie in front of the car. Windows are long gone now and side doors but the concrete is still there as well under the dirt. Most of it not all of that barn scene was shot there. I know someone that worked for the production crew.
Nicole Kidman with the sugar packets.....omg absolutely 💯 yes
YOu confirmed the spot of where the bare bones car was filmed. Also on the left hand side was the Y framed support posts for the upper floor of the barn. Missing the big ramp leading to the second level on the open shot of this film
Yeah a a lil known modified driver Greg Sacks drove the 46 car for the movie. And he also drove for Andy Pietre. He was also from LI . I grew up around him and his car when I was little.
Cool info bud! Thanks for the support!
Tom is looking yo make a sequel.
When I went to school at NTI in 2003, I made it a point to get a picture of “the barn”. There’s no concrete. It’s a surface plate they built the car on. It’s steel plates made perfectly level with adjustment screws. The barn is gone now. But it was at the entrance to one of the biggest business parks of nascar teams in Mooresville. DEI was on the other side of town. It’s all gone now. Back then…it was the epitome of nascar racing.
When did they tear the barn down?
I can 100% guarantee you there is concrete. I wouldn’t say that unless I saw it and stood on it myself.
you have to be a NASCAR fan to understand the movie and to like it

@@BIGBAKEONTHEMOVE ur welcome and the scene where they build the car it was on the 2 level of the barn they didn’t film in the bottom of the barn
@@Fishingwithandrew28 I’m sorry but that is incorrect. Rick Hendricks said so in his interview and he owned the barn and the car.

Actually, I’m driving right now so I can’t look it up but the link to it is in the description box of this video. It is copyright, free music that I get from my provider but man is that music not match the movie perfectly I could not have asked for a better song very happy with it.

It's a steel plate, not concrete.
They use the steel plate to build cars as the most level spot

In the movie, when they debut the car look at the window net connection. In the movie it is a seat belt connector. This one has an actual.window net latch. Just something odd i caught.
they used to use seatbelt connectors alot. even on dirt track cars some still do
Needless to say, I want that car or at least a spot on replica
I agree!
I don't know who owns that property now but at the time of filming the property was owned by Rick Hendrick. That area has changed alot since 1990 when they were filming it's all built up. Hendrick Motorsports built all the cars for the movie. Rick allowed them to use that Barn that he owned. And fun fact. The white Chevy Caprice car that Randy Quade drives in the movie was actually Rick Hendrick's personal car. I also heard that some of the actors stayed in houses that Rick Hendrick owned.
Yep all true! Thanks for the support!
@BIGBAKEONTHEMOVE ....Sorry, but not ALL true. Most of the cars that were not shown as being driven by the stars in the movie were built in Denver, NC by some guys (my friends) that had been NASCAR crew members before opening their own business ventures that let them use their skills. Also have a friend that leased and operated his helicopter that was used to film from. That entire property in Mooresville will be totally leveled and developed in not many years. Many buildings are already just a memory. Just a little fyi trivia. 👍
@@jbass69goat84 hey thanks for the reply all I can say is watch the Rick Hendricks interviews and there are multiples where he talks about the movie. He tells the entire story in detail other than that I don’t know. 👍🏻
@@BIGBAKEONTHEMOVE ....Yes Sir, I get it. I never meant for a second to dispute anything that you stated with regards to movie production facts. As a lover of "worthless trivia" from several genres, I was just adding some insider facts that I hoped you and your followers would enjoy knowing. At the time this movie was in production, the tiny, unincorporated, one caution light at one road intersection, ZipCode on the map, area known as Denver, NC was ground zero for several NASCAR Winston Cup teams. A Denver native and lifelong resident had owned Charlotte Motor Speedway during part of the '60s and '70s. He played a major part in Skoal (Harry Gantt) being the first to base their race team in Denver. That resulted in support type of companies opening in and around Denver which resulted in more 'Cup teams being based in Denver. Lake Norman is a Duke Energy built lake with over five-hundred miles of shoreline of which part of are in the Denver area. The lake was the drawing attraction for multiple neighborhoods that contained 1M+ homes. All of these things and more contributed to ties to NASCAR teams and support businesses and employees assisting with the movie production. Thanks for all of your time and effort to bring the rest of us some great behind the scenes information clips.👌 🏁 🇺🇲

The car wouldn’t fit in that spot in the barn along with everything else. Ceiling is too low also.
id imagine they laid something down for shot to keep the dirt down.

Hendrick’s shop is not in charlotte. The shops are in Concord, NC

Any way you can find out what scenes and let me know?
I loved it the wonderful critics complained it was too much like Top Gun but everyone I knew still liked it, so mosy likely by the time Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes came out people started to believe critics instead of what they actually saw for themselves
