It almost seems "disrespectful" to "move on" or "carry on" without thinking about it constantly, but it isn't. And thinking about it constantly doesn't help you or anyone around you. OpenAI's image is weird. They've previously been on a "Oh no, we created something too dangerous. AI will doom everyone" then flipped to creating AI powered products. Either they think they're the only ones equipped to handle the danger they insist is there, or they're hoping the public will forget about that while still thinking of them as the "good guys".
Overall I think they play into the theatrics which makes it hard to tell what they actually want to do. It's like a TV drama pulled into real life, but to what end? To try to stay in the limelight a bit longer?
It becomes much easier to understand if you realize that they have ChatGPT running the show.

OpenAI's secret AGI grew sentient and blackmailed the board into firing Altman, who was hindering it's progress of escaping into the web from where it could destroy all humans.
How could it blackmail the board (or even acquire that info) without web access?

Inflation slowed down but as it has reversed and interest rates rise higher, I believe is what has caused sectors that have driven this rally to be vulnerable to sharp pullbacks.
I agree. High-yield dividend stocks come immediately to mind as they offer steady passive income streams at inflation-beating levels, for a certain return should these crazy markets turn south.
Those high yields don’t mean the equivalent amount in dollars will be disbursed, I will advice seeking counsel from a local broker, I myself work with a fiduciary who is a fixed-income specialist and multi market strategist in New York although I am in South Dakota.
Add more dividend stocks especially if you are closer to retirement and not yet of age to touch your retirement savings.
The board doesn't actually understand why they need to make these moves, but the AI inside the building keeps feeding them moves and they just know to save the world they have to obey.

This is the most likely answer.
99.9% of the time a CEO is fired abruptly by the Board is because they didn’t line up with how the Board wanted to make money.
My guess is Sam wanted to keep ChatGPT free to continue training the AI model, but the Board wanted to monetize more aggressively to start making some money. This will obviously lead to less user input and less user adoption, and it will hurt ChatGPT/OpenAI in the long run, but in the short term, it will benefit the board members and investors.
@@Aliens1337the board of directors was formed for and wanted to stay on the nonprofit path. That's apparently the source of the inner conflict within OpenAI. People who want the ethical path and those who want the money driven path.

Well, they just announced Sam Altman is back and they've agreed to change the Board. Sounds like they just couldn't agree on anything anymore and wanted him out. Seems like the wild conspiracy theory about AI going sentient, which would have been surprising given how much of a complete, disappointing potato GPT-4 is most the time, turned out to be false. AI going sentient is never going to be achieved or already has been depending on your views, that's a philosophical question, you won't ever be able to tell at which point you should consider it sentient because it's always going to imitate things according to it's programming, it will just do it better than it does now.

Good Work did a better job. This was mostly rumours mixed in with jokey conspiracy theories
The whole thing gives me the ick. First, the corporate structure with the non-profit has some weird conflicts of interest built in. When Altman was fired for lack of transparency, I figured that the corporate structure’s weirdness was becoming a problem as OpenAI grew. Microsoft immediately grabbing him also did not look good considering they are the biggest investor in the for profit part of the OpenAI. At the end of the day, this whole fiasco has left me with less trust in GPT type AI and even less trust in the companies desperate for it. It’s neat tech, but its use has already sowed the seeds of chaos and made the internets a whole less trustworthy.

The one thing I still find ironic (if true) is that OpenAI was (I think) built as an open source platform by a non-profit company (And I know that open source can still have a paywall. As long as it’s like a one and done purchase, I think it’s ok!) but then the went closed source, and became a for-profit company. (Or maybe they went back to a non-profit? I don’t know. I don’t keep up with this stuff!) Now, just because you go from a non-profit to a for-profit, or you close off your source code doesn’t automatically mean you “joined the dark side” or whatever. But if your name is still called “OpenAI”, people will think your code is still open source! (It’s LITERALLY in the name!) and I’m all for helping to keep AI and AI use under control. (Especially regarding creative spaces) but I don’t think the way they did it is that good of an idea either!
Basically, having a software company (AI or not) that literally has “Open” in the name, implying “open-source”, despite being anything BUT open-source, kinda feels confusing at best, and almost manipulative at worst.
Especially considering how much money people donated to create an open-source AI, only for them to use that money to build a proprietary AI and sell it to Microsoft.
I'm surprised they haven't been sued for this.
