If you're gonna book via Grab, there's no need to walk far as shown on the video. Just book while still inside the arrival area and go out when it's there. No Grab scam in the airport. The official airport taxis are not a scam per se but the rates are much expensive than regular taxis. There's also a line for metered taxis outside the arrival area with an airport guard monitoring the taxis. Just don't negotiate, let them use the meter.

NAIA really needs to improve. The government needs to take some type of enforcement against the scammers praying on especially Westerners at the airport. The staff is often times ill informed, very common to be told simply NO but are unable to tell you why or what you need to do. It's a complicated airport that is not setup like Western counterparts. As an example you can enter into the terminal after going through security but there is no easy way out if you need to go back to the street. The guards don't seem to know the exit. It took me about 15 minutes to of trying multiple spots in order to find my way out. The sad part was even though I could see my Fiance with my luggage waiting for me....The security person still would not allow me back on to the street. It's not a well run customer service oriented facility that's for sure.

@@123rockstar2010 I don't know. All I can tell you from my experience in March of 2023. I have been to the Philippines in 2006 as well but that was government travel. I can't really compare the two experiences. I can tell you the reputation of being a poorly run facility has been around for decades.

@@rotanomade Yes! Once you leave the doors you cant go back as an arrival passenger. Use the ATMs and CR before going to the curb. I made that mistake. I didn’t realize the waiting area was outside, I tried to go back to the AC and they said no. I was out on the curb for close to an hour. I had enough money to change over at the money exchange…so that wasn’t a huge deal for me.

Avoid buying a SIM card at the airport. The prices are extremely inflated. You will never use that amount of data in a month. 500 pesos is more than a enough, it's about 50 pesos for the SIM card at any number of local places.

By scam you mean, they refuse to use the meter? I had traumatic experience years ago with those parasitic taxi drivers. I even heard from Korean travelers who booked accomodations in very cheap dorm rooms that their taxi fare was more expensive than their flight tickets from Korea. They probably fix that problem already. Because crossing the foot bridge may be too inconvenient for some people.
