Sleeping Sun is a favourite of Nightwish Fans - one of the beautiful ballads from Oceanborn by Nightwish.

Originally performed by Nightwish
The title, Sleeping Sun, refers to the solar eclipse over Europe that occurred in 1999.
Oceanborn was the second album by Nightwish and this song is from before they made it big - you can hear the "innocence" as Tuomas Holopainen, songwriter of Nightwish, says. This album featured the original singer of Nightwish, Tarja Turunen, as lead vocalist. Her operatic style was a signature sound for the band and she really soars in Sleeping Sun.
When I visited Finland in 2016 for the Kitee International Music and Art Festival in the hometown of Nightwish, I met Tuomas Holopainen's mother and I learned that Sleeping Sun is a favourite of hers - her very favourite song by her son's band.
In the photo at the end of this video is myself, Tuomas Holopainen's mother Kiti Holopainen, and Plamen Dimov. Plamen is a very important person to the history of Nightwish as he was the band members' music mentor, still maintaining a close association with the band to this day.

I'm transcribing a piano accompaniment for one of my singing students right now because she needs the piece in another key and this version is really interesting in terms of translating the texture of the original into piano music. This was the first song I had ever heard by Nightwish. I remember that feeling as the snow was falling and the sun was setting... her lips pressed to mine, hands never without the other to hold. She’s long gone and I am alone now, after all these years my love for this band is the strongest it’s ever been.

Great cover, as always! Anyways, in my opinion, the fifths and octaves on the left hand are too... agitated? Is that the word I am looking for? They doesn't fit the quite theme of the ballad perfectly. However, this is one of my favourite Nightwish songs and also one of the best covers I heard so far. Really enjoyed it!
