Three hours and over 100 comments from Angelina followers. You are amazed at 11. Be prepared to be amazed at six through fifteen. I envy you the journey you are now embarking on. You will have an endless amount of joy on this journey. While still in the womb she was listening to Jazz. By eighteen months of age she was singing. At two and three spending hours scrolling through CZcams looking for Jazz artists to listen to. At three tells her Mother she wants to sing for Simon Cowell. At five states she wants to sing at the Noble Peace Prize Concert. Asks her Mother to enter her on Norway’s Got Talent but is told she is too young and must be seven. Is attending school at four taking music and singing lessons. Learning piano, violin and flute. By five is speaking and reading English. First experience in sound booth at six recording Rolling In The Deep, Hurt, Sky Fall and most notably “I Who Have Nothing “ where you see her joyous response to singing. (Well worth reacting to). At six she travels to the Middle East where the legend begins. Auditions at seven for Norway’s Got Talent and wins the show at eight. You have much to learn and will find much joy in learning. lol

If you decide to continue reacting to Angelina, you will realise that her musicality is way beyond what should be expected from a young person. Indeed, I would even go as far as to say that it is more extensive than many established professional singers. In her performances, there is nothing that is not meant to be there. Her performance is done to achieve her desire to sing the song as she feels it should be sung in order to release the full emotional content and convey those emotions to her listener.
My introduction to Angelina was on her first appearance at Norway's Got Talent, and I didn't expect much from a 7-year-old. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over or forgetting her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star". Well, it was a seven-year-old child who appeared on the stage. She was small and had wild hair and gaps in her mouth, where there once were baby teeth. My first surprise was how she confidently answered questions put to her by one of the judges. She showed no signs of nerves and when she was asked what song she was going to perform, she declared she was going to sing a song by the legendary Billie Holiday. Then she gestured off-stage for the technician to start the music and started singing. Yeah! The body of the 7-year-old child was still there, but the voice wasn't. It was that of a 40-50 year old black woman who had been singing for decades. That first moment of surprise has been experienced many times since then.
I have followed her career since I saw that first video on CZcams and in the years she has been singing publicly she has mastered many musical genres, including Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz, Pop, R&B and Soul, EDM and Rock and covered songs first performed by many famous singers, like Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Lana del Ray, Avicii, Bill Withers, Gloria Gaynor, Andy Williams, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong and many others: in total over 120 different songs and 82 different performers. She takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. She never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". She just sings the song as she feels it is meant to be sung. She has the innate ability not only to sing a song as emotionally as the song deserves, but to be able to communicate those same emotions to the listener. When you listen to her, there is the feeling that you are the object of her attention. She is singing for you alone.
I have listened to every interview she has given and every documentary about her and every performance she has ever given. What I will never understand is how a very shy and humble girl in her normal life, can be transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing, once she starts to sing.
Although the gift of singing and all her performances appear to be effortless, Angelina works very hard to ensure that the one she is going to record reflects what she sees as the correct way to meld both lyrics and melody. If you go to czcams.com/channels/hM_lpT4shdnsez93QMJPig.html you will find many rehearsals where, not only do you get to see her rehearsing but being the "ordinary" girl she is (if indeed one is able to apply that adjective to her). Most of her performances are recorded in her home studio, either with backing music or a single guitar. Most are done in one take. She treats the whole thing as a hobby. As we would have said when I was young. "There is no 'side' to her" She is completely transparent to the world.
Many others who have commented suggest you listen to her original performance of "I put a spell on you". You should do so, even if you do not react to it. Although, of course, every one of her "Angels" (fans) will be delighted if you decide to do so. @@bygeorge100 Good singing technique is about the ability to hold back. She is more in control here than back when she was nine. The voice is produced in a more healthy way, even though the other version is incredible as well. At one point she holds the phrase for 15 seconds. Show me a regular pop singer who does that. This is an incredible performance! But I guess mainstream youtubers ever so often are looking for belting notes and think that alone is what makes singing impressive. It is not!

Youngest published author in Norway, sings at events for world peace, performs barefoot until all children have shoes. Also possibly magic, causing spontaneous tears, chills and deep feelings of joy.

While this live performance at age 11 is awesome, the studio version of this song she recorded at 9 year 2 months old is beyond belief. Angelina is a true prodigy but the only one I know of who specializes in vocals. She won Norway's Got Talent at age 8 and now at age 15 is signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her family requested Republic to allow Angelina as normal a childhood as possible and therefore they have not promoted her two singles they released since her signing. Please take the time to read the biography I complied for my all time favorite musical artist. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman, who has chosen to keep his life private.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age after listening to Whitney Houston on CZcams. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet and married a Japanese man who passed away in 2019.
Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English and Japanese.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training starting around age 4. Angelina plays the piano, violin, guitar and flute and also paints. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina asked her mother to enter her in Norway’s Got Talent (NGT) at age 5 but that talent show had a minimum age requirement of 7.
Angelina at age 6 and 7 did record a few songs in a recording studio, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
Angelina is blessed with a deep voice with a beautiful rich tone and has always made her sound much older than her age. Many compare her voice to that of Amy Winehouse. Her voice is highly emotional which is very rare for a young girl and some people can’t accept that such a soulful voice can come from someone who has not had enough life experience. One vocal coach on CZcams recently said, “If you have a song and want to have more emotion added to that song, have Angelina sing it.”
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on NGT was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
The next performance on NGT was her cover of Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. Angelina’s acapella performance is astounding especially for a girl who had just turned 8.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on CZcams went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
On June 27, 2018 Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London.
Angelina performed on America’s Got Talent The Champions which aired in January 2020. She earned the Golden Buzzer for her performance of her unique arrangement of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. She sang her cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in the Finals but didn’t make it into the final 5 contestants. There is much debate over how and why Angelina was eliminated.
Angelina has covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, all of which are available on CZcams. In August 2020, her manager and uncle Michael Astar announced Angelina has signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her 2nd single, 7th Heaven is a jazzy, upbeat, inspirational song and was also written by Angelina. Angelina’s family requested Republic Records to allow her to have as normal a childhood as possible until she completes high school and so far it appears that is the plan.
Angelina Jordan is a humble, compassionate young lady of very few words when she is not singing. She is on videos saying she wants to sing for the entire world and also that she wants to improve the quality of life for all the children on Earth. She has helped to raise millions of dollars for children’s charities and environmental causes.
Musicians who have worked with her have been quoted saying Angelina is among the most talented musicians they have worked with and she is the boss in the room when rehearsing. Remarkable for a girl of few words when not singing. For Angelina, it is all about the music and not her.
Personally, I find Angelina’s voice the most soulful and emotional voice of my lifetime. Angelina as a person, inspires me to be a better person and live longer to listen to her sing for as long as I can.

Just about everything Angelina sings is truly amazing. This one is good, but as 500 commenters have already told you, it’s not her best version of this song. Angelina, simply, is the best singer I’ve ever heard. Not the best child singer, but THE BEST singer I’ve ever heard. Where do you want to start? The b&w version of this song will show you a nine year old who sings blues and jazz better than just about anyone singing today. Or to see what Angelina can do more recently (at 13), her version of Bohemian Rhapsody on America’s Got Talent mesmerized the audience and judges with her own arrangement. In the last 6 months Angelina has released 2 originals "Million Miles" that wrote for her late grandpa and "7th Heaven" and a cover of Adelle's "All I ask". She also covered Michael Jackson's "Heal the World" for a virtual Royal visit from Norway to California.
Angelina's skillset is literally off the charts. She knows she can sing; her confidence is amazing. She is an endless source of astonishment. And nobody has a voice like hers. Nobody.

This performance was located in Germany…two years earlier she performed this at 9 years old in black and white as a tribute to Screaming Jay Hawkins the original artist. This earlier performance is even more impressive than this…but you would not believe the range of music she has performed since the age of six-today she is 15, and even in more unbelievable!

Great reaction to a vocal tour-de-force! You've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (125+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday , Nancy Sinatra , and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Etta James to Amy Winehouse (and many others in between) and do them all justice!
If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40 piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come. Wait until you find out why she performs barefooted.

As for this cover, as impressive as this version is (and it is), you really need to hear her do it in the studio when she was 9yo (it is in B&W). Angelina is in full-out beast-mode there and you won't believe your ears. "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his.

Hi, as I was just into this video myself, the German host told the audience she is ten, the show was aired later on. About a year later she sang in Seoul/Korea at a charity concert in front of more than 40.000 people. NO JOKE German greetings

This was Angelina's 'On the road version' the concept version from when she was just 9 years old has more impact, but was a one off studio performance. Much has developed since those really young days, a recent original song (age 14), that she wrote as a tribute to her late grandfather, show her writing ability, story telling and vocal maturity. The black & white version of this song is worth listening to. She was 9. It was her homage to Scream'in Jay Hawkins. No one wanted her to sing it the way she did. At that age vocal cords can be ruined. So yes, it was definately toned down in the growls. Since then she has never done them again. Once she is older & her vocals have strengthened, I'm sure she will use that technique again. The one she did at 9, is the one she didn't hold back.

Angelina Jordan was 11 years old when this song was performed. It was a tribute to Screamin Jay Hawkins who was quite a character. Most of the times he performed the song rising from a coffin in a voodoo style. Angelina toned down the performance on the advice of her vocal coach. Angelina is Norwegian, her full name is Angelina Jordan Astar. Her father is Swedish, her mother is Norwegian from a Japanese father and Iranian Mother Mery Zamani who is a poet and a painter and was a child prodigy in her own rights. She started singing at the age of one and a half when she fell in love with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. A year later she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and showed lot of interest in artists like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, and Louis Armstrong.
Angelina pestered her mother to enter her in “Simons Show” as she called it from the age of 3. Her mother relented and entered her in Norway Got Talent at the age of 7 where she auditioned with Billie Holiday’s Gloomy Sunday. She went ahead to win the the big prize at the finals where she received 46% of the votes while the remaining 9 finalists combined received 54%. Angelina said she likes singing because she wants to bring joy and love to the whole world. One of her dreams from a very young age was to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She accomplished that at the age of 8 singing Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World.
After winning NGT, she was flooded with offers from major music labels as well as Disney but they were all turned down by her and her family in order for her to continue her education and to protect her artistic integrity. Her uncle/manager in an interview last year he talked about music labels top executives who would fly to Norway on private jets with huge contracts offers but would leave mad and frustrated because they never expected being turned down.
Angelina is fluent in Norwegian as well as in English. She also speaks some Swedish which is very close to Norwegian and probably learned it from her father. She also speaks Farsi which she learned from her grandmother as well as some Japanese that she picked up from her grandfather as well as her mom and uncle who lived for a period of time in Japan. She actually performed a Japanese song at a concert in Japan.
Most of her performances after NGT were for charitable children organizations where she helped to raise millions.
At the age of 6 and while travelling in another country with her family, she came across a young orphaned shoeless girl who was weighing people on a bathroom scale for some coins in order to support herself and her siblings. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her family, she gave her shoes to the orphan girl. She recorded that incident in her diary and vowed to always sing barefoot when doing that in public to remember that girl and to remind herself and us about the many needy children around the world. At the age of 9 she wrote and published a book about that encounter making her Norway’s youngest published author. Proceeds from that book are donated to children charities.
Angelina Jordan has about 140 songs in her repertoire. Late last year she signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Her versatility is unmatched. She will wow and surprise you all the time. 15 years old today who is an excellent role model for today’s youth and her best is yet to come.

Very nice 1st reaction to Angelina. I've never seen a vocal coach that wasn't blown away the 1st time they hear her. It doesn't matter what genre or style she sings, whether it's from the 1940's or present day, it's always amazing. At 15, she has grown into a statuesque, beautiful young woman who has been my favorite vocalist since I discovered her over 3 years ago. I'm sure the 81 comments before me have filled you in. I`m not sure I ever heard an 18 month old baby actually singing. Isn`t that when we all was enjoying to be sung for, those ABC children or baby songs? I might be wrong, but what I AM sure of, I`ve never heard an 18 month young baby sing along as Whitney Houston was on the radio. Not until I got to see Angelina on her mother`s video. For sure it is just a short glimpse, a few seconds, but more than enough to make me impressed and stunned.

Great analysis. Angelina's strong suit is jazz but she can adapt to any style, blues, R&B, disco, EDM, pop. Of the 130+ covers she has done, to my ears at least 100 of them are the best versions of the song ever done. Most fans prefer the B&W version she did of this song at age 9, personally I prefer this one.

Two years earlier she recorded the famous black and white version at age 9 and she really pushed her boundaries. Hard. Its like black and white (pun intended).

She was actually holding back a bit on this performance (and all subsequent ones). I think her vocal coaches have warned her to take it a little easy on the vocal chords with the growls and screams until she's fully developed. But in the B&W version at age nine, there was no holding back. In that one you get the full on Angelina Beast.
speaking of vibrato, I don't think she has any equal. I meant yes most singers can do vibrato, but she combines her raspy breathy tone + vibrato into one perfect instrument which she uses to effectively draw her listeners in. To prove the point, please listen to her cover of Rihanna's Stay. She did this when she was 12. My number one Angelina performance.
