Hey guys, thank you for joining me on another video. this time we flew to Portugal to go see and ride my new horse Emporio. hes only been broken in a few months so after having purchased him in Spain I decided to have him moved to a trainer in Portugal called Joao Torrao. Here is his progress so far , Enjoy!!!
Thank you all so much for the positivity, I wanted to take my time to say a few things so everyone can understand Emporio better! He has only been broken in a few months and although he looks strong he is still very weak. He doesn’t have the strength to hold his head in the right positing and can sometimes go behind the vertical. He naturally goes there as it’s easier, my job is to correct that and encourage him to carry himself. Some people may say “why don’t you give him longer reins”, with this breed and at his age it’s very hard for a young horse to be able to stretch and stay balanced... especially for Andalusians. So we are teaching him to open his frame whilst we hold him more lifted up and more collected. The contact with him always feels very light but all that power means it’s a lot harder for Emporio. He’s also very stiff at the moment and his back is very hard, as he continues to grow and keeps getting the attention I am now providing him with this problem will get better (the hind). I hope you guys can understand this is a rising 4 year old horse, the training is not going to look right and I don’t expect anyone to see him already perfect or text book right. This is the training and we are right at the start. Which is exciting! I hope this helps understands a little more about the training and the breed I am now so lucky to own. Hope you enjoyed guys!!!

Matt Harnacke you do look wonderful together tho. And it seems you two have created a good bond. With the trainer he has now he will get a good foundation, and with you as his owner he has bright future. It will be wonderful to keep following you and Emporio to see where you will end up!
I hope you do not get criticism about him dropping behind the contact at times, because as you said it’s simply due to lack of suppleness and strength and physically he can’t carry himself 100% of the time at the moment! Inexperienced people seem to think that coming behind the vertical is simply the rider being cruel but it’s just a stage of training. No horse can automatically go perfectly and depending on their conformation they will drop behind of fall in front! It can only be helped with correct training and strengthening so you are certainly going the right way about it! I have no doubts you are far more experienced and accomplished in dressage than anyone commenting mean things.

He is doing phenomenally for a 4 year old stallion! Such a great mind about himself, and he is trying so hard. Your doing wonderful with your new boy, and I for one am so excited to watch his growth. This is an awesome teaching opportunity for you to show the behind the scenes that make for a well trained horse!

Your trainer for him has such a beautifully quiet seat and hand! He definitely knows how to bring out the best aspects in your horse... even for a rising 4yo he looks like he is on the right track towards a longer and supple neck and back! Really lovely riding from all in the video

was looking for the loose reins but never saw them. plus that bit was making the horse foam at the mouth no release!
no thumbs up or down but im rolling my eye when i hear him talk about loving the horse . he just in love with himself loving having a horse that he pays other people to look after.

Haha! I grew up around horses, used to be a rider myself, and so was my dad. So sometimes my dad was the one braiding my hair when getting ready for school. When we would go to our grandparents after school my grandma would immediately notice and say "Your dad (her son) did your hair again, didn't he". He was a rider, but she didn't seem to think her son was good at braiding. 😂

Hello, Matt, as a recent convert to being addicted to your videos, I am catching up on the older ones now. I have always loved horses but only owned one for a very short time. In the 70s riding when pregnant was a no-no so I gave up my horse for my daughter. It warms my heart so much to see the exquisite care that you & Jesse give to all of your furry babies! Now that I'm 75, I will just live vicariously through you two boys! You are the same age as my grandson, Arik. I enjoy every single minute of the vids!! Be well, stay safe and, as always, have a beautiful life!!
For such a young horse, I’m impressed by how eager and obedient he is. He appears to always want to do his best. Hope you have a long, happy future with him!

He cuts all his horses manes from what I've seen, except Bear but I think Bear is an exception.
It destroys me every time someone cuts a horse’s mane 😱. I don’t like that look. Would rather see a roaches mane than a cut one, but natural is best!
I can see it.. You couldn't have given him a better name. He's determined and willing to learn and work with you. Better yet, he has improved a lot in a small amount of time! In result, he will be amazing, no doubt. You've got a beautiful, strong soul in your hands
I kept trying to put my finger on what his movements look like and finally realized he looks like he’s dancing. He’s so graceful and expressive and really seems like a sweet, gentle soul!

Well acctually Eporio is not grey at all, when an equestrian says grey, they mean white but its called grey.

@@xdana0029 grey is a gene that causes hyperpigmentation until the pigment runs out and they become completely white. A 'white' horse could have any number of genes that cause it. The gene that causes grey is called grey
His front end is so animated! 😃It’s so interesting to see these Spanish breeds as I live in an area that is predominately Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. It’s very intriguing to see the difference in green horses in the breeds that I’m used to, and what a green Andalusian looks like. Compared to my ‘baby’ 3 year old OTTB with a dainty head, slender neck and overall slender frame, Emporio looks like he is all neck and shoulders and no hindquarters! His knee action is so gorgeous yet so foreign to me at the same time. I’m going to enjoy watching this handsome boy progress in his training as I watch my girl progress with hers!
Eli Hop yeah here in Texas we are mainly quarter horses, thoroughbreds, and paints.
I think he really improved and walks a lot better! He uses his body in a right way!

Don’t your love the ride of this breed, Andalusians stallions are quite calm & sweet. It’s like riding a rocking horse, 🐎🐎😍 They have the best temperaments, Really loving horses, my Favorite breed, I imported a Stallion grey from Jerez 🇪🇸 Spain, one of the Best horses I ever owned, You look great 👍 on him, Enjoy Congratulations Matt

Justine Dream team they also call the PRE 🐎 horses Pure Raza Horse, ( Andalusians ) they are not Registered in Spain, only in America, but the Spanish keep Stallion records from way back and keep there line authentic & pure, yes they are beautiful in Dressage, look at Olympic s online you’ll see many performances by Spain 🇪🇸 and others that are Just breathtaking, there movement is so animated. Gorgeous horses, The Carthusian farm is in Area of Jerez, and The Royal Andalusian School, they give beautiful shows with Andalusians.
I was so happy when the trainer said how much he liked Emporio. He is such a good boy and seems to be really trying. I just love him and you are perfect for him.
Besides how gorgeous this horse is, I really love his "facial expression", the eyes with super long lashes... he looks like he has SO MUCH soul. Seems to have a very gentle and sweet personality. Just lovely

Gotta love all the experts who’ve probably never seen an Andalusian in their life. Keep doing what your doing. He is stunning and your trainer and you ride him beautifully. Andalusians have a natural head carriage and will never have the long relaxed rein that a thoroughbred or qh have. He is still a baby and will mature into a magnificent boy.
I watch your videos again and again, and am so excited about Emporio's progress! He is a magnificent example of his breed. Emporio is so lucky to have you, Matt! You do him justice!

For one month of training, this was amazing. The guys there really took care of Emporio and it was clear that they know what they are doing and the right way to treat the horses 😊

Although I have my own heart horse I would honestly kill for one that looks like him. I really want to point out how knowledgeable you are being with the breed and training. It's so uncommon for a lot of people to take the time to learn the breed or the riding when working with young horses. (I'm not saying all). I adore how much you understand that this "flashy" looking horse is not at all at the point you would say he is great. You understand he needs a lot more strength from the back and he needs to work into his neck. He has HUGE potential and you are a lucky rider! My 17yo mix irish bred came to me emaciated and his go to move was to tuck in and come behind the vertical which looked "impressive" but i hated it and really worked more on going out and low. I can't share pics here but i wish i could..the difference in him is wow. Can't wait to see this boy when he is fully mature and muscled up and trained RIGHT. That trainer has a really good head too, he has his priorities in the right place. Need a lot more trainers and riders like you guys.

He is outstanding. I love his conformation. I know nothing about jumping,dressage but he has a beautiful body and head. Seems for a 4year old he has a sound calm mind. It is nice that you will give him the time he needs to become the horse he is meant to be.
