Whacka is a new superboss at the end of the Pit of 100 Trials in the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake for Nintendo Switch.
Since Whacka hurts himself when he creates more Whacka Bumps, it should theoretically be possible to win the fight without doing anything at all, right?
That's what I set out to find out, and here's the result. Whacka just beats himself...
In order to survive I needed a lot of defense for low BP, since his red Bumps do a whopping 27 damage. I did this by cloning a bunch of P-Down, D-Up badges.

Not too familiar with the damage formula but would last stands be able to be more efficient or is the raw defense of p down much better?
I was just about to say how in the Hell did you Dodge that move but i figured you had a ton of defense up badges.
@@Mathewthechanman Last Stand is incapable of reducing damage to 0, lowest it can go is 1.
@@Fatguy703 it could have been worth looking into equipping a few and getting mario down to 5 hp, you could probably optimize the BP used that way

You'd think Whacka would have healed more than just the one time at the start of the fight. Seriously, his only heal was for FOUR HEALTH. On turn TWO.
I wonder if it's like a prank to see if the player will give up before seeing the fight. That or this is when Wakka tries his bumps for the first time and never again because of the taste.

Whacka was supposed to be a boss in the first game. They just decided to not go through with it for some reason. There’s code for it

man, the most nerve wracking part of this challenge for you must have been seening the red whacka bump and wondering if it was going to hit a party member for 27 damage or be used to heal 75 hp of the wacka and render your fight even longer. good job on this meme fight

You'd think Whacka heals more than once
I'm surprised he didn't heal more. Perhaps he is locked to only one heal until the player damages him a certain amount? Any heal late in the fight with this strategy in mind would be horrible - at best that wastes nine turns to negate that 25 HP heal (five turns to get more bumps and four to throw them, getting hit five times each), at worst Whacka keeps low rolling on spawning stage hazards AND he eats a red bump instead, healing for much more.
If Whacka were coded to try to heal at low HP (maybe he does have a chance to and just never did it?), this fight could have been way longer, or even very nearly impossible with this strategy if his heals aren't capped.
Still, hilarious strategy. So funny that Whacka will deal the final blow to himself, given the chance 😂
Wait wait, did they CHANGE Goombella's tattle on Whacka outside of battle? Her line was quite different when I was here and I believe I fought him before any updates happened, is this 1.1?

No wonder this is such a "rare" species. They intentionally knock themselves out on their opponents, if aggravated. Pretty dumb if I say so myself.

I kinda realized this about halfway through my first right with Whacka, that he'd still take damage if I did nothing. So I just used Vivian's Veil when he had a lot of bumps and just focused on healing and staying alive the rest of the time.
pro tip: watch this in 0.25x speed to have a chance of truly comprehending this magnificence

you'd think this wouldnt be possible since whacka only usually deals at most like 7 damage to himself and can heal by 25 whenever he wants, i wonder how you won against those odds.

Funnily enough, in my battle vs Whacka, he ended up ending the fight with his own attack. He was left to 1 hp from my turn and then dropped a prop on himself.

Why the hell does he only use his heal ONE TIME at the start of the fight? I thought you'd just got lucky in your first fight with him, but nope, I guess it's just a one-off thing when he least needs it!
Yknow, you can tell that they used more of the budget on mush rather than wacka, not saying this fight is bad of course...but I kinda wish there was more...maybe next game if wacka comes back

I'm convinced the Whacka fight has better odds for rare stage hazards occuring. I've challenged Whacka over 5 times and I got both the meteor & Bowser statue in two separate fights against him, then just the meteor many times. I've also seen & heard from others who've gotten the meteor during this battle too 🤔

Technically cant you beat most if not all bosses like that? Just wait for props to kill them. Whacka happens to kill himself so it's way faster, but psure it works on other bosses.
Not all bosses have attacks that can cause stage hazards. You could wait for Shy Guys, but that would take forever. Also some bosses have a fixed audience that never contains Shy Guys. You also need access to enough defensive badges or P-Down, D-Up specifically if the boss has piercing attacks.
Yeah I was thinking about Shy Guys, didnt know some bosses don't have them. Still funny to think it's a possibility on some of them.

Erm, akctually, you defended the whole battle, which does count as doing something 🤓
Sadly, there's no Do Nothing option unlike in the original PM. Defending is generally just passing a turn without taking much damage.

I kinda figured that you had a ton of defense up badges i need to still do this fight on my channel too i wish you could get a ton of those defense up badges the normal way it really sucks that you can't clone different types of badges just by buying them imo it would make sense because other badges can be cloned it's kinda dumb that others can't as well.
