- One big video covering the rest the synths and samples in Half-Life found over the years, with plenty of things known and plenty of things unknown. It's a long awaited update to many of these videos for the series made in the past. Includes new synths such as the Prophet-5, MKS-50, Matrix-6R, and Novation Bass Station. Recommended to watch the parts prior to this here for some of the other information: • How the Half-Life Cred...

UPDATE 7/4/24: Cougar sound was found by @c-900-0 in Microsoft Encarta Virtual Globe 1997, seems to be where it was taken from as the sfx also found in BBC's library also are in the program. Plus ironically, it was recorded by Cornell, lol.
try koumei satou's half-life mods. they've got interesting music.
@@lenadams854 (Spoiler but) I was actually going to cover those in the video after HL2 lol, I know the samples come from Sonic Foundry CDs like ACID DJ, ACID Techno, Orchestral Collection Vol. 4 Rock/Pop, Universal Groove Elements
@@therealburneraccount5466 they've got a soundcloud
@@therealburneraccount5466 they've even got a soundcloud too
@@therealburneraccount5466 he also has a soundcloud where you can find more songs
I could swear the background image is continuously moving, but I guess it's just my imagination.
nope it is moving
@@techguy348 no it isn't, you're tripping
It is, you're good
hey i thought that was some clever joke about how it's similar to your title cards
It is moving left and right. You can notice that in higher speed
20:32 : "are you ready to see my full wrath ?"
20:36 : *proceeds to do the penguin club dance*
Would've never thought the Valve intro uses sounds of laughter pitched up and filtered...you guys have a great ear, and I say this as a guy who has worked with a lot of samples! Great job compiling this stuff.
it wasn't valve. it was Kelly Bailey
The Half-Life soundtrack is my favorite collection of traditional Arabic and eastern music
8:24 Oh hey, used in gammas theme in Sonic Adventure
Oh shit you’re totally right!
6:23 Okay, that one was the most unexpected of them all. It just adds to the track's unnerving nature.
10:16 10:30 10:44 It's so weird hearing those iconic sounds when they're not drenched in reverb.
Totally agree- they seem so naked and wrong without being slathered in rack mounted reverb
@@the_washington_monument_am9714 super characteristic but in cases super hard to figure out what the sound is 🥲why some synth patches haven't been fully determined yet
4:59 I always heard that part when it fades out and now we have closure!
5:14 Also heard in the MechWarrior 2 soundtrack.
3DO also made a lot of use out of the Symphonic Adventures in Army Men II and Toys in Space (whereas the first game used military tracks from, I think, Universal as well as Larry's Orchestral Adventure). Saki Kaskas also used a lot of those samples in the track "Flimsy" in Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit, particularly the scare chords and hits whenever you crashed.
Half Life 2 and Episodes video is gonna be god tier
lol 12:25 is used in the lovely game "Sir You Are Being Hunted!" as the death sound.
This is great, Its funny, some of the songs were I was sure there were heavy sampled were almost all original and some totally the contrary, I hope more sources of the sound files are found, we could have some day a remaster of the original sounds in 16 bits instead of 8 as they where shipped with the game. (support for 16 bits was added later to the engine)
@33:35. That's a jump pad in Doom Eternal.
WAKE UP BABE, NEW HL OST BREAKDOWN DROPPED
damn, I don't have babe... Welp, it's nice to watch another vid
I think it's really crazy how much work went into the soundtracks back then
But it must have been a tough job for you to figure everything out
Half Life was the first first person shooter I ever played
And the soundtracks simply blew the game away
It's simply brilliant what you can conjure up from samples instead of generating it all yourself or designing the sounds yourself, e.g. digitally via DAW
Great job you did
Another part of the Half Life mysteries solved
Thank you very much
In any case, a subscription and a like are on it
I look forward to more videos on this topic
This video is just making me want an MC-303.
19:48 smashing drive - early bird :D
11:20 this effect here gives me super huge transistor bass vibes, like EXTREMELY close resemblance to this synth in particular and how it sounds, and if that's the case, then its easy to say they either made it on the fly as a simple tune loop, or it was pitched down, ill have to go through their sample list in FL Studio at some point in the future
Cool seeing the true samples of these songs. Other videos like this pointed to other samples that had sampled the originals seen here.
This crap's amazing man... such an eye opener! There's so many parts that I didn't notice in the tracks before. Definitely gonna relisten to the soundtrack with this new knowledge in mind!
I love these types of videos, thanks for bringing more. much love
the Jungle Drums dhol loop is also used in the theme of Eastern Mind: The Lost Souls of Tong-Nou, a game by Osamu Sato, the LSD Dream Emulator guy
This is pure gold
this is one of those videos i never knew i needed to see
i love it
You the MVP
Fancy seeing you here, just discovered your channel the other night from your Bitwig 5.1 features vid
Return the Slab....
"What's your offer?!"
return the slab
or suffer my curses
16:42 Steam in the Pipes is mistakenly called Hurricane Strings
The sample at 8:04 was used in the Homeworld Cataclysm/Resurgence soundtrack, specifically the track used during the fourth mission when the Kuun-Laan jettisons the lower decks.
lmaoooo i made a video a few years ago (unlisted now) where I pointed out how similar “taste of blood” from portal sounded to the opening of daft punk’s “digital love,” glad to see im not the only one who noticed this
7:30 This opening is also used in the final boss OST of MediEvil
nice video mate, hopefully more sample/synth sources will appear soon
Half Life Alyx's Parking Battle uses tracks 35-37 of Methods of Mayhem.
I still have robert mc303 samples, lol. I never thougt it was used in half-life.
some of the creature sound effects comes from ifx midget gems
This is so cool
Thanks for the shoutout
The Drumbeat at 7:04 sounds like a processed sample from "Distorted Reality" - The sound at 9:02 sounds pretty much like the "Tron Lightcycle"-Sound that was a Preset in the P5.
That drone sound at 11:18 could be the JP8000 (the feedback oscillator has that distinct sound and "feel"), layered with another sound. Also the "healing pond" sound could be a sample from "Distorted Reality"
HOLY SHIT YES 37 MINUTES LETS FUCKING GO
Amazing thumbnail! xD
I think 7:19 is Metallic Ring Mod from Trance Formations.
good stuff. if you plan on continuing this after doing the half-life series, may I suggest doing the system shock 2 soundtrack?
czcams.com/video/LgIX-vvLnsM/video.html
7:24 Audio Adventures Inc. - Symphonic Adventures Track 33 can also be heard in the video i linked here at exactly 0:11
Also i think the shotgun sound for Santas gun in the same video is the same sound used for the combat shotgun in Vice City
I found this out a few months ago and im so glad to finally have the opportunity to share this (useless) Half Life sample info.
8:43 sware that’s been used in both a song from a nakey jakey video and devo
wow
I suspect the drum sample was sample from some type of hip hop song either in it's entirety or cut up because the tones seem too consistent
12:38 also sampled for the Racing Drones theme in Acceleracers
Please for the love of God do this for Deus Ex. I'd give you $20
You can probably just ask personally Alexander Brandon or Michiel van den Bos. They're not hard to find or contact at all.
@@MagnetismR Alexander has done videos about what he used. Microwave was a big one, plus the Korg Triton. I'd just like to see them laid out in a vid like this.
@@MagnetismRvan de bos , this man make music for untreal tournament 1999, right?)
Your work on these videos is just so amazing! Lots of stuff I don't understand but it's very nice to finally put a name to a lot of these songs and sounds given they are typically so underappreciated.
By the way, I've been very curious to know where you found the sample for the end credits and is it available for listening? More specifically, Zero-G - Trance Formation, Track 19, Sample 3, "trippy seq. 3 F 120"
10:31 "all sounds 100% original and fresh" haha
that's so cool
36:57 this also sounds exactly like the mp5!
awesome
8:19 Sonic Adventure E102 Gamma theme
25:38 I knew that had to be a sample Because i heard it in a Goosebumps Episode Just Yesterday.

P.S. Why Can't I Find Any Internet Videos of that Quote on Quote, "Thai Reed Horn". And If i Could Talk with my father, Who is really smart about certain things, i can have him listen to Half Life Sound Effects and Tell Me What they are, For example, One of the Tank Idle sounds he told me was a Tank engine moving at a constant Unchanging Speed. I Would Also Say That i think it would be helpful if that Text To Speech Engine was remastered for other window's systems.
27:36 this part kinda reminds me of karen's death in night of the living dead, although i doubt it's the source. maybe it was just sped up human screams, since those tend to sound like insects or other animals
i'm pretty sure the synth line at the start of Klaxon Beat is from a sample pack, because I heard the same line in a Captain Disillusion video of all places. czcams.com/video/ou7KSmfC3lA/video.html that's 100% it.
wait wtf
damn
No way that was part…
27:35 I believe that's scientists screaming, lore-wise
Garg its cow? D:
Nice
aww yea
hearing some of the individual tracks sound like scrapped druqks track pieces
dis gon be gud
Can you make a video on the Hazardous Environments CSGO music kit?
where can i find that big man Voice module?
aw for fucks sake can i maybe afford one analog synth
feels :(
Пожалуйста, сделай разбор музыки из unreal tournament 1999
hiiiii
32:24 Marc Laidlaw was incorrect about the voice of the VOX in Half-Life 1. Hopefully someone can email him to correct this.
wtf, monkee?
valve used another cuckooland thing
where can I find this music 11:01?
it's from a sample library, so you'll probably need to pay up to listen to the raw sample (the sample's used in the half life track "vague voices" which is available on yt btw)
