- The 2nd battle of M2-XFE was promised again dwarf the previous record set by the battle the preceded it, and nearly 14,000 players gathered for the greatest battle ever. But the 2nd battle instead left a wake of destruction, server lag, and tears for the PAPI forces they met their real foe, lag.
We discuss the loose ends that followed the 2nd battle, and we look to the future for redemption.

A "fleet in being." It's actually not a rare concept. Most common with regard to navies, throughout history various sides in conflicts have devoted significant resources to simply hanging around near enemy forces that were not worth the cost to destroy, because those forces would pose a grave threat if they were ever ignored.
PAPI has a fleet in being at M2-XFE.
The Imperium would be foolish not to devote resources just to keeping that PAPI fleet offline.
And so the cycle of CCP improving their servers only for players to find ways to break them continues
you mean like TEST&Pets when they tried to jump in 6000 blue donut pubbies into 5000 IMPERIUM players already in M2 ??? You are right!! but ppl should stop whining after about the outcome or losing Titans. As far as i know TEST and Papi leadership had ALL their Titans out in time...
@@moskito5864 And then that huge victory got wasted camping the remaining titans while PAPI burned the rest of Delve.
@@anren1190 lol ya right, do you know that some ppl still waiting for the SRP from this glorious idea waiting and trying to crash the server when 5000ppl jumping into M2?
i actually dont care, never had so much fun as in the past month, i cant count my kills anymore and since TEST is SHIT (and they know it) its only a matter of time until NC. or Panfam is dropping out of the chucklefuck coalition and TESTicles can do their shit ALONE... i want to see them ALONE for the first time since they are existing as an Alliance because they ALWAYS came running for help to us before like they do now with Panfam wich carry them thru space and are their pets.
TEST is NEXT ... I give TESTicles 4 weeks after Panfam and/or NC. deploying back into the north!
And if you not have realized. TEST does not have a HOME anymore they can call home :D :D :D
Sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know a way to log back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost my account password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Franklin Oscar Instablaster =)
Great video, balanced without spin. As an Imperium member I look forward to your uploads. I will say though the “criticism” leveled at papi leadership about “you should’ve known better” was basically the Imperium repeating what PGL and Villy said when Ashers Operation Enho (the boson trap) failed so we just parroted their thoughts back onto them as irony. Cheers great video.
Yeah, I remember the quote that was immediately on Reddit during the battle. I just didnt want to call out our leadership in the video.....I think they are beating themselves up enough over this. No one is perfect, the war will still go on.
Because of that battle I've entered the New Eden!
:O Welcome!

Wow awesome storytelling
@@komenter1985 haha no, but I do work in the military/aviation sector.
@@AHigherPerspective when will be next video
As a recently back in game non-alliance player, I have enjoyed your videos as way to catch-up on some of the big fights that have led to the current situation. I have noticed and appreciated that even though you are fighting for PAPI, you haven’t been overly biased. Great video, sound and narration. 👍🏻👍🏻
The fights in m2- the days after the second one are some of the best fight i've ever done, hit, run and back.
-TwentyBugs
I managed to load in my super half way through and burn out of the bubbles surrounded by titan wrecks. It was a crazy place to be!!
I've never touched pvp, it's not my bag, but dam do i love the way you tell these stories.
you will love it EVEn more if you are joining a pvp corp ;)
Most of the story I have heard about the M2-XFE evolution 2 battle has been from the Imperium smug-casting network. Thank you for taking the time to created this.
Imagine 4000 members of any nullsec bloc all jumping into jita and preventing any traders from entering... -Phys Uitra
You know what, if it completely destroys and disrupt trade in Jita, maybe someone will take notice.
@@AHigherPerspective i wonder what would happen if someone tried to log in when jita is at population cap and his/her character is at jita. would the game just prevent him/her to log in? the proposition of nullsec blocs being able to completely disable jita is worrying to say the least
@@Phantom-rb2mo To be honest I have no idea, I don't endorse that kind of action though, now you're just hurting the game for everyone lol.
@@AHigherPerspective i certainly hope no one does it considering 90% of all my assets are in jita XD
Lol that would be a proper hell camp 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a member of goons, I absolutely LOVE your bias/non biased tone. It's a great fight and I love the doorstep content.
I know right, no more looking for random wormholes and then having to make 30j home afterwards.
I was lucky to watch this battle from a safe distance.
Where you in the same system?
Beautiful recap and I will never get enough of your visuals. They keep getting better and better. Luckily I was only a Logi subcap pilot for M-2. We were stuck in tunnel for like 2h and even then only myself and a handful of others finally managed to get in. It was a very long night. Let's hope it is in our favor next time :)
I swore I wouldn't play Eve Online again but the battle of M2-XFE brought me back to the game after a number of years away. I can't wait to get in there and take part in the next big fight!!! Fly dangerous everyone!!
Ah, I heard the battle was borked, grateful for the inside information regarding it. Great video explaining it Thanks.
No problem!
The shining light of this misfortune is how fun the subcap brawls have been.
Hey bud, you won the exclusive caracal skin :) reply to me with your ingame name and I will send it to you.

Another amazing vid m8.
Your voice over, great edit work, background music choices and in-game cinematography makes the vids absolutely captivating to watch and listen too. 10/10.
This was for sure one of the most memorable EVE moments I ever had the possibility to participate in, so far.
These are parts of the reason why EVE is such a special game and experience.
Theres another war on the horizon apparently. I hope we can experience this kind of craziness again.
@@AHigherPerspective I doubt it will escalate to a similar scope. But fights will be there to be had for sure.
see you on the battlefield :)
I know that you said you were going to treat this impartially but man did you do that well. Class act!

Always love a level headed approach.
Things can get stale when all you’re surrounded by is spin - great video.
Well papi line member here, long time viewer aswell :)
Nice shots mate, i have no idea how you can record while in such a tidi tbh.
The usual feeling i got from your videos so far was that you have both nice pictures and text but a lifeless tone that breaks a bit the immersion yet this time it was better! :D well done!
haha thanks I guess. I feel when I'm doing a video about large battles that I should keep a tone that suits more of a documentary style while videos like this is in a tone and feel like talking to you guys. I think I'm going to drop the monotonous tone like my other videos and just talk to you guys as normal.
@@AHigherPerspective well you do you mate, I'm just saying I'm not a big fan of such monotonous tones x)
Allthough it is a personal pov ofc.
Nice summery of the null sec battle.
I will probably never be part of such a long fight because of limited time available for me to game.
These videos are the only way for me to see what is happening over there
Keep it up m8,

I hope they find a way to stabilise the servers for fights of this scale
This was extremely well thought-out and done. Thank you! :)
You're very welcome!
It was great meeting you in M2-, hope we meet again! And yes, he should have known better.
Holy crap!
Thank you (again!!!) I've been reading about what happened and wound up utterly confused. This video not only helped fix that it's also strikingly beautiful.
Glad it helped!
Thank you for making this. I've only just heard about eve online this week but holy shit the scale of this game and its community has blown my mind ever since I heard about it. This is literally like another universe that needs its own history recorded. Just absolutely in awe at this and the fact that I'm 21 and just now hearing of this.
Pretty dope analysis from the grunt level. I was there for the massacre and we were all frustrated we could not get in to M2- to get down to business. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video! Great documentary of the events. Chris Zanjoahir, Karmafleet
Love your video's like always!!
They are so cinematic which is amazing during those tidi fights.
Thank you! Maybe one day we can do this without tidi...
@@AHigherPerspective Ahh yeah that would be great! Keep up the great video! we do need more of these awesome story telling.

I like the "dig two graves" quote. Thanks for the great video, as always.
Thanks for watching. I feel like we are going to annihilate each other while a 3rd party is ready to show up and finish us off.

haha sorry about that. The game is very complicated to the eye of an outsider so I do have to apologize.
these types of vids are so cool and they always make me want to go on and play eve after. Thanks man!

Great breakdown of the situation and unique story that is/was the second battle of M2-...... I do appreciate that you make an effort to tell the story without a bunch of bias /spin, think we all pull for our side and see the fight through the lens of being part of one of these teams. But it’s nice to get a fair retelling of events.... not that I agree with everything said lol, but it’s more fun to have some differences of opinion lol. Thanks again, take care.
Really cool video. Thanks for the recap!
A little feedback on audio, it might be good to boost your voice volume compared to the video itself. Keep up the great work :)
The fighting has been fun we have been winning some losing some but having fun the whole time
This right here. People focus too much on hating the opposite side, its all just pixels, have fun.
Great video as usual. I think you explained the situation perfectly. It was a mess to watch, that's for sure. Even worse to fight in.
Keep up the great work.
Thank you!

Just subscribed to your channel. I really like your presentation style. It allows me to show it to wife and kids to explain eve. Please keep making more. Thanks for making these.
Havent heard a better explanation, thanks for the high quality video :)
Glad to hear that!
The conversation in Goon comms was full of people wondering how PAPI allowed us to form so hard with no response for hours... and how with such a big fleet in system, they'd be crazy to jump in. And then they jumped... and it was freefire for supers. Things may have gone better if your supers had gated out so they didn't jump out of a system in full tidi.. or if there had been a response to the Imperium formup... getting what you had in earlier would also have allowed a good sized fleet to limit what the Imperium could jump in.
Great vide, thank you for the really easy to follow breakdown.
Glad it was helpful!
Upvoted. A good impartial video and synopsis of the fight. The march continues on. The fight is not over.
Love the story telling. Just started my eve career.
Can't really comment on the fight since I wasn't there but boy, that's a lot of pewpew. Starow Saraki
Well I was there... Zkill told me i was lmao, can't tell much about it though x)
Hello !
First things first - great video as always ! Nice video editing ! Some of the best shots I've seen from the fights ! Also .. your most not - biased commentary I've listened to.
But small clarification - you said GSF fleet would have been trapped in M2 if the KS would have died - not true. We could have jumped in 1DQ anytime.
While I saw your comments on why you didn't come out and say clearly that papi (no caps) leadership f*cked up, they did .. big time. I was in the super-carrier fleet, and we truly couldn't believe when we saw the cynnos opening in the MIDDLE of our anti-capital fighters. It was a bloodbath. Say your prayers that the server ghosted those titans and supers.
Though it was a hyped fight, when any FC would have seen that grind, with 6000 players already loaded and ready - he should have stood down. No point in continuing on this.
You (papi) opened a really BIG can of worms with the bubble-star KS you anchored - the result -> The grid in M2 - before the fight and now. And while we do have a hellcamp-ing fleet, our main supercap fleet is still free to do as it pleases - just that we didn't take, until now, any of the BAIT fights papi tried to set us up against.
We'll see how this unfolds ... I'm sure there will be a break-out attempt before the cynno-jammer gets online. Clearly the war is not over, but right now, GSF is in a much better position than papi.
Great response. I always love to hear things from the other side. To be honest if I was ever allowed to go into your fleet to film a battle it would also be really great to see your pov.
As for trapping you guys there. While the PDS would have cleared any bubbles we put up. That 250 man onyx fleet was designed to keep you from getting out until the KS died, which the bubble fxxking would begin.
It's hard to talk about this disaster without accidentally stealing a sense of victory from the Imperium for their hard work, and even harder to forget to see how PAPI leaders saw the servers: as performing admirably in the mega-battle just two days before. It had not seem as insane to jump into that system at the time as it was in retrospect. But, alas it was.
As I've dwelled on the battle more, I think Eve might be hitting limits not on just what the servers can handle, but the players as well. These battles were exceptionally long, grueling, and stressful to be within. The magnitude of the losses hoists a massive emotional burden onto the leaders--imagine a few hundred Titan pilots being angry at you! I don't envy them.
Another thought: This is a glimpse into one of gamings first true long-term total wars. It has been truly hellish for both sides at times. Emotional, ruthless, and full of joy and humiliation. Strangely though, I don't see it ending soon. WWB2 will rage for at least another 2-3 months. I'm guessing 6-9 months more. Beyond that, I can't see happening. Players will start to crack. And few will be left with much stamina for all-night Time Dilation (slow-mo 10%) battles.
As for the player count in the battle covered in the video above: no one had thought through numbers of this new magnitude. The hidden X factor was how much the news of that first M2 battle hyped up the gaming community and led to extreme player counts. EVE Online had just received the greatest advert in its history. Everyone suddenly had a desire to be part of a guaranteed-historic Titan battle. Each of the 3 systems involved was about 5,000+ players. The news of that first glorious Titan brawl caused *an ocean* of former Eve players to return... and current ones to log in or finally pick a side.
Reality showed Eve is hitting a mixture of new technology (social media, streaming, and Eve books) and old software. The long videos by Devs show they are truly aware of the servers strengths and weaknesses and committed to continuing to make improvements, but the growth of the software is hitting a hard-to-stretch limit.
Thank goodness Eve is extremely hard to learn, time-consuming, and expensive. Or we'd have 300,000 players showing up at these battles! :-D
This is a great reply, thank you. EVE got a lot of attention from the gaming community because of this, some good, and some bad. I think that if we are hitting the server limits, a new gameplay shift should be put in place to move the players away from doomstacking 5000 people in a system of an objective.
EVE is extremely hard to learn if you want to explore it's every nuance. It's super easy to play if you just log on, join a fleet and hit F1.
The biggest thing is a lot of the titan pilots aren't upset with leadership. They're upset with the game itself. The brawl they expected turned into them being treated like fish in a barrel. Dropped in one at a time.
Started playing eve again a couple of weeks ago, completely oblivious to what was going down in Delve. Lucky timing to come back to such drama :)
I know close to zilch about what happened at M2. That's the main reason why I watched your vid, A Higher Perspective. I'm new to EVE. I downloaded it, but I still have yet to play it. I'm not paranoid that I'll encounter the same problems that you and the other pilots in the system experienced. What I am concerned about is whether or not said problems will affect the future stability of EVE Online as a whole. Either way, I want to say that I admire seasoned EVE vets like yourself, and I hope to write my own legend in the stars.
And one more thing: you're right. When looking to get revenge, it is wise to dig two graves. One for your enemy, and one for yourself. Sun Tzu was a wise man.
Thanks for amazing job mate, love it
Great video as always thanks for continuing your excellent content!
Thanks for the great vid as always!
Love your videos. Always enjoy watching the videos
Finally we have papi story version, thank you for the video, good work as usual, that fight it was insane, cant wait for the rest of the Titan to log back in
I never tried eve online yet I keep watching your videos, because of how you deliver the story, the production were really good too! and btw, you mentioned "Ghost Titan", are they a different kind of ships? since the only ship that I can distinguish is the titan, the mushroom looking one
Hi. Sorry, I should have explained better. Basically the server lagged so hard that when a titan jumped to the destination it was stuck between the 2 system.
And what ended up happening was that the pilot ended up back at his original location while duplicate titan with noting equipped spawned at destination with no one piloting it.
@@AHigherPerspective so it was like a graphical bug that most games encounter and yet there was a kill notification for that 'certain' titan. Now i really do understand after I finished the video, but its hard for me how to explain it in technical words. Thank you AHP
@@bratatatatat Not a problem, I'm happy that I can shed some light to non-EVE players! thank you for watching.
I live for videos like this. Thanks, man!
Glad you enjoyed it! Someone has to document this war!
great content as usual. Keep fighting the good fight. I was there and it seems CCP needs to have some sort of dynamic server modulation to help with this issue.
Hi. And thank you! I really wish there was some server meshing tech. The game code is so old I don't know if that's even possible. One can only dream...
Good video .. great explanations .. The server limit is simply that a server can only handle so many requests .. any calls that it can't handle immediately gets put into a queue .. if that queue get full and the server is still getting too many requests .. it simply discards new requests and may lose some in the que .. at that point no one can predict which calls are going to be processed and which will be lost .. the population of the server at that time wasn't the limit .. it was the amount of calls to the server and the processing of those calls .. it would be interesting if CCP knew or let be known that information
Correct no such limits exists outside Jita. At least now we know exactly around what number of people are fighting in local where the calls are not processed and simply time out. Hence how the ghost pilots are spit back in their original system.
Excellent video quality as always sir.
I appreicate your take on all this. I too am a member of PAPI within Legacy and this has been a painful setback. I joined this fight due to my personal grudges against Goonswarm so here is fighting to their demise or until our last ship is blown up.
Brilliant video. Thank you.

Great video thanks! Hopefully I will Join the front lines one day
You can do it!
I was in the armor and structure fight but my pc crashed when I was in M2 for the structure timer so I was only there for about 3 hours rl time.
Other then that thanks for explaining server tanking I was confused on what that was but its clear now lol.
Was one of the horde eagles to clear out fighters at the start. DC'd and tried to relog for the next 4-5 hours. Then I gave up and accepted that the battle was lost. It really was unfortunate how the fight that could've been marked in the history books turned out like this, but it is what it is. Anyways keep up the great work with your videos. One day we'll free our titans and supers and bring them home!
As always an entertaining and engaging video. Keep 'em up.
The hellcamp will continue for weeks. Goons are having fun camping there...

"Dig 2 graves" - reachin' back for those deep cuts :D Now I have to go watch old EVE trailers.
Dig 2 Graves, that was a good one.
Keep it up
A nice clip with great footage. I would be careful with saying "6500 players is where the server reaches its capacity limit". It's not that the capacity is limited, it's rather the performance of the server significantly decreases beyond the 10% tidi with ever growing numbers. Otherwise fair and good reportage of what happened. Looking forward to the next one!
I did say it was a soft cap in that situation because no one was able to get in past that point.
Fantasic video, I had a jump tunnel for an hour... sad because I had that ship for 10 years :)
I´m fiting on the other side of the war, but i like your views on that. Analytic, unexited, on point with nice footage! good work!

At least the people in the ghost Titans got their ship back. At first I was upset to see the game behave in this manner but then again it is a unique feeling to know that capsulars are literally pushing the boundaries of what modern-day technology can even do into the realms of the theoretical. My character name for the giveaway just in case I win. Rick-Sanchez c-137. Keep up the great content. I did want to ask you how are you able to get such an amazing shots during such terrible lag and server performance?
Hey man, as always, thank you for commenting in my videos :D I leave the graphics to somewhat of a medium high settings so that I can get at least 1-2fps in these kinds of fights. Because I have to speed the footage up so much due to tidi, it somewhat looks real time and pretty. And for the first time, I colour graded the video a bit to make the cinematic footage a bit more sharp, colourful, and a smidge of glow effects. I think it turned out alright.
I remember seeing you the other day! Mining in a barge when those garmurs attacked us I think.
perfect documenting as always
As a karmafleet member I will mock papi fcs over this as they mocked us when our boson trap didn't work a couple months back. But it is unfortunate that the game sometimes doesn't hold up in these heavy tidi conditions. If I could pick between having the m2 massacre or operation enho boson trap working I would want the boson trap working.
CCP giveth and CCP taketh. It's all good though. More content to be had by both sides. See you on the battlefields :)
Instead of TiDi, they should implement "feature dropping" - more and more complex bonus calculations are dropped as more and more players join in. At 14K players, everything is an instant hit. That should keep it playable.
nice video. Plz keep posting such stuff
Seeing all these M2 videos coming out, I was wondering if you ever would lol.
Even as a papi member you seem to take a middle ground in your videos and that's what i like the most and why I was holding out for your video.

Kind of the bummer that the outcome of such battle can be so heavily dictated by technical limitations, i hope CCP will react to this somehow.

Great video!!!!!!! fair, balanced and true. Good quality graphics too as im usually in potato mode :) in TiDi flights - fly safe and I look forward to your next video
as long as its over 1fps it can get speed ramped to a watchable state, so I set graphic settings accordingly, i think its mostly medium settings with anti aliasing off.

Fantastic video, thanks for the recap o7
Wyran, Crazy battle, I hope everyone have the fun they are looking for.
Just a pair of points of order, what with hindsight being 20/20 and all:
1) Imperium fighter bombers were above the keepstar because a PAPI force recon warped there uncloaked, so we knew you were going to be jumping in there, and not cynoing into the fortizar and then warping over
2) the heavy fighter death cloud had enough DPS to kill one titan every 15 seconds in real time. Even if PAPI had managed to cyno in, lots of titans would be wrecks before even applying enough DPS to the keepstar to kill it
