    The top radiator mounts can stay on the crossbar. You don't need to remove and replace them because you are lifting the bar straight up anyway.

    doing this job now.
    2 things I've done different so far...
    1) took the grille out of the bumper cover. takes 15 seconds, pops out and gives a lot more space to play with.
    2) broke the condenser support tabs off the radiator with a hammer and long punch/screwdriver. freed the condenser without having to wiggle things a lot and risk damaging the condenser. not like i'm re-using the bad radiator anyways. :)

    Excellent video. Appreciate the warnings about things like the hooks being difficult. Often the steps that are taken for granted pose the greatest actual challenges when doing the work. When I did the job on my Caravan (which has 2 fans with screws on the top), the radiator was so difficult to remove from the condenser I took the bumper off, then saw the clips and hooks plain as day. Had to squeeze the clips together. Now I know how it's done for such a vehicle, and would probably be bale to get the radiator out without removing the bumper.

      I also took the whole front off the first time I changed the radiator 8 years ago. And I'm tempted to do it again. Because it just seems easier...

    My hat is off to you Dan. I have a 2003 Chrysler T&C Limited AWD after having viewed a few other videos the folks were removing the front bumper and grill and supports underneath. It looked like a disaster especially after checking with the auto repair site 'Repair Pal'. I entered my vehicle info and selected service required and came back with an estimate for repairs of $1015 to $1096 which included the radiator. I found the radiator from Denso P/N 221-7002 which is one of the parts suppliers for Chrysler with shipping and tax for $138.43. I am going to use the method you have demonstrated and for the cost of a Sunday afterrnoon save myself a little over $900. Dan keep up the Good Work !!!

    Screw style clamps are a big mistake. They don't expand and contract with heat like the correct ones do.

  • @kerrymarris4260
    @kerrymarris4260 Před 2 lety +1

    The bracket with the hood latch can be marked with a greese pen, or sharpie. Just to be sure that it's right. Definitely not the same as my 2002. Like the fans are separate on mine. And it's always a good time to clean up the front part of your engine, if you have any oil leaks or it's just dirty.

Can't believe it is only ~$100 from many sources. Choosed Walmart - free delivery/free return. Plastic bumper cover is already out as I was looking for leak. Let's go, and good luck retired DIY driver!!!

    You can use dykes to cut the small section of the lower condenser hooks if you don't have a angle grinder.

  • @Mercie22
    @Mercie22 Před 2 lety +2

    It's easier to slight light the AC condesor over the hooks, instead of maneuvering the radiator around the hooks.
    Don't move radiator off of hooks, move AC condenser up from hooks, and towards grill.

      If you don't see any wetness on the hoses themselves then it is probably the radiator.

    Thank you for this video! I have a Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L 2007 with 180K km, and the coolant started to leak a bit, I have seen some small wet spots on on the asphalt the driver side in a summer sometimes under the radiator. I am just wondering if this a radiator? I purchased the coolant leak stop, but it did not help.I am just wondering if I should add another coolant leak stop fluid into the radiator or just replace one? Merry Christmas!

    • @MechanicalMalarkey
      @MechanicalMalarkey  Před 3 lety +1

      I don't recommend using any leak stop products. It definitely could be the radiator, possibly also just a hose leaking.

      @@MechanicalMalarkey Question - what is the typical radiator lifespan nowadays? I replaced the radiator two years ago on my Dodge Caravan 2007 with 190K km (the original) Now, the new one I installed started to leak 212K km on the side where the plastic and metal parts join. Can it be that the lower manifold gases leak and create extra pressure for the coolant and that is why the radiator goes?

    • @MechanicalMalarkey

      Possibly he damaged the condenser or lines going to it, or he had evacuated the system to fully remove those for easier access and forgot to recharge the system.
