Ambassador class was classified as a Heavy Cruiser and was designed while the Federation was still in conflict with the klingons. It’s a shame we didn’t see more in cannon but these ships easily outclassed a excelsior class ship and were still designed in a period of war so they were focusing on the war ship aspect still. Minus there slightly smaller size and power core the design was solid and superstructure definitely rivalled that of most star fleet ships.
Still my favourite design of any of the Enterprises.

I don't know if you think it's a waste of time, but in battle if (say like at 5:45, and your starboard shields are at 100%) I would put my starboard side to the enemy ship for a while as that side will withstand a little more? Like Riker does in Nemesis when the other shields are compromised and he ordered to keep the bow to the Scimitar where the shields are strongest. Not necessarily: Starfleet, as much as they pretend otherwise, is a military, and their ships are all built with combat in mind. Also, being outnumbered is never a good thing - a fleet of outdated warships surrounding a single ship can be a definite threat. That said, he should have performed better: after damaging the port/forward section of the phaser array, he kept maneuvering so that the Ambassadors were directly in his blind spot.

None of the ENT ships were combat optimized. The NX Class itself was a retrofitted science vessel, not a warship like the Constitution Class.

Are you controlling the ship? If so there are some much better combat maneuvers, such as full reverse to back away from the target and using it to "drift" your ship....Start going full impulse and once the ships you are targeting moves off your firing arc hit full reverse while turning to drift the ship around and keep you weapons locked longer. I was kicked off sto for using all the rcs consoles and making my ship move like one 80% smaller and people kept reporting me for using mods! I'm a Master at controlling cars, trucks, planes, choppers and starships... in games of course on the starships lol. I think I learned at a young age on how movement and physics work, hell I drive 300 miles a day 4 days a week like a stunt driver for a dental lab... I don't have to drive with the skill of a rally racer but I do.... Mostly to keep from getting killed by others that Can't Drive! I got to learn to fly when I was 17 working at the local airfield and if I had the money I'd have gotten my license to fly. I wish I could prove my skills in real competition and not just games. I was born with a spine disorder that makes even breathing hurt now so racing, flying or anything I'm good at is something I'll never get the chance.... I'm happiest when driving my car over a 100mph or when showing off my flying skills on a simulator game. If you need any tips, I'm more then happy to share my knowledge on all that moves fast both in the real world and in games.
