- You guys have been asking…is the Samsung M8 Monitor better than the iMac?
I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and am ready to share my thoughts! Let’s talk about some of the important features and pros and cons of this monitor and then at the end of the video I share my final thoughts and what type of person I think would love this monitor, and who I think would definitely not love this monitor.

The dual functionality of this monitor with it having the smart TV option is what sold me. I don’t have space in my room to have a monitor for my PC and a tv so the fact you can do both on this one monitor is fantastic. Looking forward to purchasing this in the coming months!
Did you end up getting it and if so do you like it?
I completely understand why some people don't get this monitor, but I personally think it is PERFECT for someone like me, which is why I just bought one.
I run a sticker and stationery business from home, so I often sit at my desk to work. My current monitor is also Samsung, but it's 7 years old and pretty crappy. The speakers in it don't even work anymore, meaning I have to use my laptop's super quiet speakers. Here's why that's a problem. When I use my cutting machine to cut out my stickers and sticker sheets, I like to watch movies/shows/youtube at the same time. BUT the cutting machine is SUPER loud and like I said, my laptop speakers are super quiet.
So one of the features I'm really looking forward to on the M8 is that it has adaptive sound. I can watch a video at a comfortable volume, and then once I start my cutting machine, the monitor will automatically turn the volume up so that I can hear what I'm watching. Then it'll turn it back down once I'm done with the noisy machine!
I also really love that it has the feature of also being a smart TV. This is cool because, as I mentioned, I like to watch shows/movies at my desk, but most streaming platforms actually don't stream in 4K through a browser like Chrome. So by using it as a TV, I can actually watch things in 4K at my desk now!
The large screen will also be great for looking at my artwork and designs, and I can always color correct it if the colors are off.
I think for someone like me, a small business owner/artist who works from home, already has a laptop or PC they're happy with but is looking for a monitor, and isn't quite ready to buy something like the Pro Display, this is PERFECT. But again, this definitely isn't for EVERYBODY.
I can't wait for mine to arrive! I got pink because it's my favorite color and it also matches my brand. It's supposed to arrive at the end of this month, I'll update my comment once it has arrived and I've used it. I'm so excited!

But when you extend a device (wired or streamed), and in my case an ipad, will it be possible to get the sound from the ipad instead of the monitor at that point. Or even connect ear pods to the ipad and watch whatever is going on on the monitor? Thanks in advance 😋

This review was very helpful! I usually use two monitors but wanted to minimize down to one monitor but something bigger than 27”. I have online business and this monitor would work perfect for work my small wfh space and it looks nice! Thanks for sharing! ✨✨

Nice review. Thank you. Nice to see other Mac owners being flexible with their setup. I own a 27" 5K iMac and I have to say, I'm so freakin impressed with the Samsung M8 wowsies... I was going to buy the Apple Display but the 32" is like way out of my budget... Here comes Samsung. Never bought one in my life. I own ALL MAC products since going to design school and I have to say... this thing is cool Super cool. I wouldn't listen to the "other" dramatic "techie" reviews on here. Riddle me this... WHY do we have such high standards for our tech yet in general we humans aren't that perfectly made ourselves (ahem), glass houses and stones or pot black, whatever, you get my point, lol.
I didn't like 24" iMac, seemed like going from a iMac 27" 5K to a 4.5K 3" smaller was like a slap in the face. No way Apple... Gonna pass. Plus I have extra keyboards and mouse so it's simply plug n play or bluetooth n connect.
Although my 27" iMac was cool when I bought it, I felt that for watching streaming videos online, it did okay (tolerable), but not great great. Too small. And I didn't want to buy a flat screen tv PLUS have my desktop computer, enter, Samsung. I seriously was thinking WHY the heck hasn't anyone thought of this baby before? I guess they did but the price point even for a decent, and heavy heavy Benq doesn't do this smart monitor justice... Not at all.
Some complaints I've heard which was demolished when I got this monitor:
1- Sound is horrible... Not true, while it's not like an iMac sound or Mac sound sure, but for the price point thought they were talking about two metal cans and a string. Not even close. I have a small apartment in LA and it's good.. And if you're that much of an aficionado for sound, and need all the best sound tech blah blah... Nothing stopping you from going to buy a $5000 USD Apple Display and enjoy theater like sound then, right? Go for it.
2- Someone said didn't have VESA mount. Okay - Go buy an Apple Display and then the acce$$ory. Stop complaining, I'm not mounting a 32" Computer Monitor to a wall, how cheesy... If I had a 52" tv maybe, but jeeze it's a smart monitor. And it's pretty freaking smart...
3- Everything out of the box was intuitive to set up, took me about 30 minutes including entering all my passwords into Apps vs hooking it up to my laptop to do it. NO, it's not an Apple Display so stop comparing the two. If you wanna drop a few grand buy one but it's not an Apples to Apples (no pun intended), comparison but for the price point being 4K is awesome. The over priced Apple Display literally has the SAME 60 hz refresh rate for 4,300 USD more. No way I'm justifying that refresh rate with this one when in 2 years Apple will make another variation and over charge you for that too. Nope. Not my story.
4- VA, oh boy, some of the "techies" went on and on about this one... Okay why buy it if you don't like VA then. Next.
5. Last but not least and this is a gripe I can agree with the fact it doesn't have audio port sucks but with the money I save to buy this monitor I will have my Mac Mini and it has a audio input so nothing loss.
6. The natural matt finish is cool I can tell the difference from my iMac but it's actually less glare and by golly, I think I like it.
So for all that griping "out there" in CZcams land -- I'm super duper pleased with my purchase. I actually bought it from Amazon expecting to return it (not anymore). I bought it in preparation for the Mac Mini M2.. Whenever the heck Apple decides to roll that out, I'll have this sweet baby ready. But what shall I do with my beloved iMac? I have some time to think about it.

I’m in the same position you were in! I have the green imac as well and since we’re not stuck at home as much, I appreciate the portability of a laptop. I’m eyeing off the new macbook air in starlight because of how portable it is, cute and could really do with the 24gb ram, over my 16gb imac. I even have a similar desk to yours and really like your set up. I feel like I need to change mine up but sometimes feel like my desk is too long or not long enough. What length is your table top? I am eyeing off this monitor but it will take up more space.
I'm literally in this exact position; I just got a green iMac but after using it for a couple of weeks I'm missing the portability of a laptop and I love the new starlight macbook air!

This is the best aesthetically pleasing monitor i have ever seen but I am a student who is wanting to do design at uni and like to game so maybe I would get this only if they had a 120Hz i think then its perfect
It has such low Hz for the price but nothing that has what I need looks this pretty 😭

The 365 function work for excel and word but not for Teams. It says to download it, but when i try i gets function not supported through chrome or edge. Can you tell me how to use Teams for call?
I have a 2014 macbook pro which has been acting really buggy (it's allowed he's an old man lol). I really want to get a desktop set up for the bigger screen! And this monitor is IT. I just am not sure if I want to go through the route of getting another laptop to pair with it or getting a Mac mini to pair with it. Why is tech so much $$$$$

Can you hook your iPad to the monitor as well?
I know this might be a silly question - I am new to the Mac world (a couple of iPods - a long time ago & a brand new iPad Air that I haven't opened yet - which is how I found your channel). But with an iMac, can you use it to watch TV? I've always wanted one but the Samsung M8 monitor sounds like everything I could wish for currently. That is assuming that I can link my iPad Air to it the same way you linked your laptop? Thank you!
You could watch TV on the iMac through streaming platforms like Netflix. BUT, something to note is that it wouldn't play in 4K. While the iMac is 4k, you can't actually stream shows in 4k through browsers like Chrome. So what's nice about the M8 is that since it's also a smart TV, you can watch through one of those apps and it will be 4K!

honestly don't get the complaints about 60hz at all, it's not a gaming monitor and Apple Studio display is 60hz too so...
One question why connecting the switch shows some kind of black bands on the edge?

Apparently you have to connect it via hdmi rather than mirroring or usb-c
I love this monitor but the only issue I have is that the mouse and keyboard is a little laggy when I connect it to my MacBook Pro
I'm having this same issue. Also using the USB-C to USB-C cord to connect isn't working for me.

@@taraosullivan8301 yes! the trick is to connect it by the cord and not by apple mirroring. You should be able to plug your laptop or computer in and select the PC option

Yes I ordered my this week from Samsung only choice was white, FYI I used educational discount plus $50 first time purchase with Samsung managed to save $170 Australian on retail price!

You sold a iMac (which you apparently loved) and instead bought a (probably much more expensive) 16” MacBook Pro AND a monitor. 🤔
Obviously money is not the real issue here.
Why get the MBP to keep it in clamshell mode most of the time? Waste of its retina screen…
For less money, you could have kept the iMac and bought a (much more portable) MacBook Air…
You didn’t mention needing a larger screen than the iMac, which is the only reason to do what you did.
