    Great Job! I did something similar in my own house but I had to cut an access opening in the wall behind the valve. It was inside a closet anyway so I just made an access panel. I installed two emergency shutoff valves on the hot and cold for any future repairs.

    That triple valve was a nightmare, had to service it every year. Constantly replace or resurface the seats and change washers. New single knob valve replacements much better with many trouble free years.

    I've got a similar setup in my tub/shower. 1914 home with mesh and mortar wall and orig 'subway' tiles (square edge, not the ugly bevel). The brass fixture is embedded in the backing wall. I want to avoid cutting that tile and trying to source the original. I will clean and rebuild (or replace) the stems. The new plastic stems (cartridges) are often pretty crappy quality unless you pay $$ for top-shelf stuff. Just something to consider if you are the homeowner.
    Also, if you're DIY, I'd get a flame protector to place between the copper and the wood to avoid fire potential. I say that because most of the standard brazing/soldering tips sold in retail stores are pretty large for working in tight spaces.

    • @TheEgg185
      @TheEgg185 Před 3 lety +1

      The water naturally wants to come out of the bath tub spout because thats the lowest point. The diverter valve blocks off access to the tub spout, so it has no place else to go but UP and out of the shower head.
      Water is stored in water towers that are really tall. It has no trouble flowing up to any point lower than the height it fell from.

    @OpenMindedForever Před 6 lety

    Awesome video! If I may, I have three layperson "self-help plumbing for dummies" questions. Hope you can answer them:
    1. Does the rough-in-valve have a PSI spec -- specify what the minimum pressure must be and what the maximum pressure must be?
    A. What will happen if there's not enough minimum pressure -- will the rough-in-value not work or the cartridge?
    B. What will happen if there's excessive pressure -- will the rough-in-value not work or the cartridge?
    2. Does the rough-in-value have a flow rate (GPM) spec -- specify what the minimum flow rate must be and what the maximum flow rate must be?
    A. What will happen if there's not enough GPM -- will the rough-in-value not work or the cartridge?
    B. What will happen if there's excessive GPM -- will the rough-in-value not work or the cartridge?
    3. Should the hot water flow rate and cold water flow rate be equal or disparate via the rough-in-value or cartridge?
    A. If the hot water flow rate is less than the cold water, does this mean the rough-in-valve or cartridge is faulty or a clogged pipe?
    -----------------------
    I ask these questions because my rental studio have a Moen Legend Single Handle 1225 tub/shower model, standard rough-in-value and 1225/B pressure balance cartridge. Per my timed 1-gallon buck test, I get 3.0 GPM hot water from tub-spout, 11.50 GPM mixed-water, and 10.00 GPM cold ... three flow rate disparities.
    Landlord won't fix, claims a pencil diameter (6mm or 0.236'') is the minimum flow rate for all tub spouts, and the 1997 Uniform Housing Code only requires he provide this minimum water supply out his tub-spout and shower head.
    He couldn't tell me which section of the UHC states this or what the GPM equivalent is for a 6mm column of water at 115 PSI -- yes that's the PSI per my statistic gauge test.
    So I may have to hire my own plumber to diagnose and fix this hot/cold disparity flow rate ... your feed-back Mr. Plumber?

    There's no reason to shoot a video like this if you don't do it step by step and let the viewers really see all the work. editing and making it short and saying one hand can't show all is crap. Don't make a video if you can't show everything all at once.

      I still think spending $120 on a quality valve has no extrapolatory value compared to the reliability of GM automobiles. I'll take the Buick 3800 series everyday. However nowadays I would only buy a Toyota or Honda 4 banger pre-2015.

    How come u can do it w/ 1 hand but my husband has trouble w/his 2 + my 2 hands? I know he's doing something wrong, but he's 2 stubborn to listen 2 me or 2 anyone 4 that matter. He thinks I can hold a sml slippery pipe fr moving, while he is loosening it. If he would let me use a tool that can actually grip the pipe we would probably have successful results, but he'd rather do it the hard way, bcs he's 2 lazy 2 use the proper tools, & scream & yell my head off, like an 2yo toddler w/ a temper tantrum. It's ridiculous & abusive, he doesn't like to compromise or even talk like a normal adult. Uhhhh..... Pure frustration!!! 🤷🏽🤯😷😰😮‍💨
