    Good to see Cycplus address a number of issues identified in with their T2 trainer (of which they sent me FIVE units to test/review). Unfortunately in reviewing those I've effectively been blacklisted by Cycplus. Not only are they unwilling to send a T3 over for review, they cancelled and refunded my order for their new radar device too (amusingly enough as I had predicted they would on an online forum a few hours prior to them cancelling it). When I emailed asking for clarification, I received a polite reply... but no indication they'll ever send anything my way for review again. These kind of interactions become the story when I'm asked about a company and their products. It also makes for a really awkward conversations at Eurobike when they're there to promote their products, I'm there to cover them, yet... well.... here we are.

      So interesting. Weird - because so far this trainer has been decent so not sure why they are hiding! Please follow up at Eurobike and get their reaction!

      @@PeakTorque I imagine how quiet something is both relative and a matter of perspective. Why not do a decibel check in future and then everyone can go...oik..its 10db louder/quieter than X and XX and X? I say this as a viewer and not someone that has to do it...but...given everything else has tangible stats?

    • @riknos3289
      @riknos3289 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@out_spocken A decibel reading isn't sufficient. Frequency distribution makes a huge difference to perceived loudness as human ears are not equally sensitive to all frequencies (See Fletcher-Munson curve research for more). Something can be 10db louder, but the frequencies produced can be distributed in a manner that's much less annoying, and actually be more tolerable overall. So you need a comparison using Fast Fourier Transforms to analyze the frequency spectrum of each to really have all the info.

    • @out_spocken
      @out_spocken Před 2 měsíci

      @@riknos3289 Agreed. Would also need to use the same room, same mic in the same place. I get the acoustics and frequencies...perhaps just didn't know the way to explain that this would be measurable.
      Whether it's financially viable is another thing entirely I guess?
      I tried listening to mine and I don't hear a whizzing from the machine (wahoo kickr).

    With the magnets design, is it more aligned with a Tacx Neo? in which case how is the inertia, having compared Neo v Kickr I found the Neo very slightly harder for high power efforts, climbing and ERG mode. My test was to do the same workout twice and compare pwr/hr for each interval. Interested to know how this feels compared to the intertia of a physical flywheel.
    I can't decide which is the more natural/accurate inertia Physical v Virtual flywheels.
    Great vid as always, thanks!

    • @PeakTorque
      @PeakTorque  Před 2 měsíci +3

      Good question. I do prefer the feel of a geared up flywheel but this and the tacx have similar sized direct drive motors. A lot simpler, compact and less moving parts is one advantage. But the ‘feel’ of low cadence high power (climbing) efforts can feel a bit odd in my opinion. At higher cadences, i cant really tell the difference.

    • @ianhaigh9786
      @ianhaigh9786 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@PeakTorque I kinda feel that virtual/magnetic flywheels tend to provide much less inertia when in ERG mode at higher resistance, climbing or just going hard not sure if it's a restriction of the technology.....physical flywheels will/tend to always provide intertia, obviously the affect of which is less as resistance increases. With the Tacx Neo, if doing a high resistance climb or interval you cannot pause for a second because the resistance just grabs you as it's it continuous and instantaneous, whereas even in these situations with physical flywheel there is always some intertial...... I don't have the scientific knowledge to know which of the two is the more realistic/correct ..... also not sure if any of that makes any sense

    Hi! Does removing and putting the back wheel in the trainer damage the thru axle threads?
    I have an aeroad which has the threads built into the frame, not the hanger. I always keep the threads well lubricated but I'm still concerned that i will need to trash the frame because of worn threads in the dropouts.
    Is this an issue I need to keep an eye on?
