- The Novation Bass Station 2 is a fully featured monosynth. It’s a bit old! 8 years on now, so not vintage, but from right at the beginning of the current analog revival. So how well does it hold up in 2021? Quite well actually. A carefully selected set of classic features, and some very clever forward thinking midi implementations, meet up with some very clever recent updates.

Love the synth, I have one too! That sequence drove me nuts after a while though.. some variation really would've helped..or evenbetter yet, actually play the thing!

I think I would just use the sine wave osc, add a touch of noise and throw a pinch of drive on it. Turn on the limiter and turn it up. Should be a nice 808 bass type sound with some flavor.
I don't think you switched the limiter on and off. It had a zero in both.
Would you recommend this for Psytrance bass lines?

Have you compared the BS2 against the Microbrute at all?
I'm looking to sell my Sub Phatty and fill the space with a smaller and lighter bass synth. I also have the DB-01 which I adore, but the DB-01 doesn't suit my Herbie Hancock aspirations :)
Minibrute 2s, yes. Microbrute, not. The Microbrute and the Minibrute 2s have the same Steiner Parker filter I believe. All modes of the filter on the BS2 beat the pants off the 'Brute filters.
@@DankLiveAF yeah exactly, Steiner Parker across all of the brutes. Sold mine MiniBrute 2s 3 months ago and never regret. Got BS2 instead - awesome filter, awesome OSCs, patch memory, what not to like. Funny thing is - while the MiniBrute has brute in it's name it is quite hard to make it sound brutal.
@@VitalyPashkov yeah. I guess the feedback distortion is the “brute” part. Those Steiner Parker filters are butt.
I attached a Rackbrute to my MB2S to get started in modular, and one of the first things I bought was a new filter for the MB2S. It sounds fantastic. But if you're not buying modular anyway, buying it just to get a new filter costs quite a bit more than the MB2S itself.
I have both, Sub Phatty and BS2, they are totaly different. Uncomparable. BS2 is about endless fun, and it has realy powerfull sequencer/arpeggiator.
BS2 or DB-01 to pair with my Circuit Tracks? I plan to play acid and deep house.
Im doing a DB-01 video series soon. Its hands down my favorite unit.

@@goodnoyz I did not. I played 3 gigs in the last 4 weeks and didn't have a chance to make any videos. It'll be coming up soon though, as for the moment, I'm not booked anywhere.
I have a Minilogue XD, would this be worth getting too?
Depends on what you want / need - basically the minilogue xd can do lot of the bass station cant and is more hands on - but the bass station has a quite different sound + a more flexible Filter - Also what to consider it has Dco´s - so no tuning time and being more spot on with the pitch - I would describe the core sound of the Bass Station "funky" and the Minilogue in comparison more "harsh and cutting"
If you are looking for a mono synth for bass that has a decent build quality and is not expensive it´s a good option and worth a try
That baseline being heard, is the bassstation being triggered as a slave?

@@DankLiveAF hold on to it forever if you can. Lol i was listening to projects when I was really starting to utilize bs2 and you can't beat that analogue sound! What other analogue synths you own?
