Roland TR-8S MEGA TECHNO TUTORIAL
808's 909's 707's and more. In this video I'll walk you through my process start to finish on how to create a Techno beat on TR-8s. I include all of my best tricks and the entire workflow. 3 years on this instrument and this video distills it all down. When you are done you will have a HUGE amount of Roland TR-8s capability.
The Objective- to write a Techno beat that can be performed for a lot of variation. Where all the elements work together in any combination. Where you can play it to multiple energy levels. And sound design tips and examples to get the most out of combos and features on the unit. The TR-8s features heavily in everything I do.

The Erica Synth DB-01 is a contemporary rethink of the classic 303. In this video I’ll show you how to use it from basic functions to advanced tricks. It’s good for acid basslines, arpeggios, special fx and even leads. It sounds awesome with gorgeous oscillators, an incredible filter, and deep integration between the synth and the on board sequencer, which has many smart tricks up it’s sleeve. ...

Bass Station 2 by Novation / 7 Reasons why it still rocks in 2021

The Novation Bass Station 2 is a fully featured monosynth. It’s a bit old! 8 years on now, so not vintage, but from right at the beginning of the current analog revival. So how well does it hold up in 2021? Quite well actually. A carefully selected set of classic features, and some very clever forward thinking midi implementations, meet up with some very clever recent updates. Join the GSG disc...
Top 7 Reasons Why Arturia Drumbrute Impact Rules

DBI SAMPLES! app.gumroad.com/products/IIZfl The Drumbrute Impact is an amazing drum machine, and it features a kick that cannot be beat! Yes, the beat in this video smashes. I'm going to create a beat, then walk through and show how to find all the coolest shit this inexpensive Drum Machine has to offer. For those who work in the box or with samplers, I've sampled off the Drumbrute Impact here....
Strymon Nightsky: how to sequence, step sequence, use all the cool features.

In this one I pair up the Nightsky with the Erica Synths LXR-02 to review how to pull off the coolest shit on the Nightsky. It’s a crazy deep pedal with synth-like qualities, but to make it do what you want it to do, you have to be able to set it up right and know how to trigger the best features. It’s not totally apparent from the manual and I couldn’t find many good walkthroughs so here it is.

    Need some help….thanks to a very understanding wife and Santa- we have a TR8s! However have an issue with sound from channels- certain channels- BD, SD etc are really quiet- barely hear them. Only way to change is going into the Shift/ Inst mode and go to PAN and adjust up- can hear then, but as soon as you change pattern- no sound again……. I am bewildered!!

    Really good walk-through. The 8S seems very useful for get away from all the mouse based stuff, covering the essential percussive sounds, arranging and mixing them. The menu diving seems a bit tedious though. Does it annoy you or is it fine once you get used to it?

Plus, boy howdy do those analog circuits really start to sing when you've been jamming for like 15 or 20 or 30 minutes and she gets nice and limbered up and running! Or am I crazy?

Thanks for the video, yours was one that helped me seal the deal and pull the trigger on it. I'm soooo glad I did. The sound palette so perfectly rides several niches that are an absolute blast to jam and listen and dance and phonk too!

  • @JH-lo9ut

    Had it. Sold it. Regret it (a little) I really liked the sequencer, not only is it intuitive and easy to use, but it has just the right amount of versatility and possibilities to create more complex patterns, but without getting lost. The interface is direct. Everything is right there, or at least accessible via a shift function. Sound-wise, it's distinctly analog. I think it has it's own sound. It doesn't fit all genres, but it doesn't pretend to be a universal drum machine. I think the toms are a bit weak, and I wish they had a different cowbell. Separate outs for every sound would have been cool, but you get four outs plus main out and that is not bad at this pricepoint. The sounds get old though. An 808 or 909 have classic sounds that still sound great to this day. The Drumbrute impact sounds lack that something, that will make you love them forever. I have lots of respect for Arturia trying to create their own thing instead of trying to copy the classics, but I just don't think they suceeded in making great analog drum sounds. It is absolutely possible to create an uniquely great sounding, modern, analog drum machine, MFB Tanzbär is the best example i can think of. DBi works as a midi controller, paired with som drum module or whatever sample player or DAW(I ran an old Boss dr-550 to add som old school drum samples), but since all control knobs are completely analog, they don't send any midi data. This is fair, since it's an analog drum machine, but it will drive you insane. You instictively try to adjust the sound, but nothing happens and you go: "of course, the knobs don't do anything", but then you try to do it again anyway, so you facepalm and then you do it again. Maybe this is just me, but I just couldn't get in to using it this way. It feels really sturdy and solid. I would not hesitate to throw it in a backpack. The guy who bought my Drumbrute impact got a real bargain and if one shows up at that same price, I might buy it again.

    • @DankLiveAF
      @DankLiveAF Před rokem

      It’s got a unique enough character that even if you are an advanced practitioner you would still likely think it’s awesome. It’s low price tag and ease of use make it a winner for starters too. I would not call it an allrounder though, because the only box it checks is “analog drum synth”. It doesn’t have other modes, no digital, limited fm, no samples etc. the Tr8s is a better allrounder.
