  • This is my video for replacing my 2006 Nissan Xterra power window motors. This should apply to any 2nd generation Nissan Xterra and Frontier. I hope you find it helpful.
    Just a note if you have tinted windows - when using tape to secure your window, carefully peel it off as it might remove your window tint.

    Seriously, thank you so very very much for making this tutorial. Your lack of messing with the camera every few seconds and not making any jump edits helped make this be the perfect video! You have not only saved me money, you've also taught me something. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this video.

      Sergii Kvasnyi , when someone on CZcams makes an outstanding video like you have I feel it is important to tell them. There is too much negativity on here and I feel it is important to spread love and good vibes. I don't think I've ever seen a video on here with more positive comments than this one too. Keep up the good work friend!

    Thank you so much for the best video of this subject. I changed the motor on my 2006 Nissan Frontier driver side. It cost me just $70.00 for new part and two hours of my time. The new part has life time warranty.

    Thank you Sergii for that very informative video. I have a 2005 Xterra and for two years both driver and passenger window motors have been broken. After viewing your vid, I am going to buy the parts myself and I am sure, due to your awesome video, that I can do it myself and save about $700 or $800. Keep the vids coming my friend.

    Thank you for the detailed and clear instruction video. It made it much easier to tackle this Regulator/Motor replacement myself. I like that you show where to push on the electrical connectors to get them to release. I noticed that some of the screws were not very tight when I removed them. Since this is all sheet metal that is threaded it is very easy to strip the threads out.
    After watching you video, I went and purchased an $8 set of nylon pry tools at Horrible Freight to avoid boogering up my door pieces and they worked very well.
    Thanks again for the video, it made a huge difference. Cheers!

    After viewing this video, I just completed replacing the driver's side window regulator in my daughter's 2007 Xterra in almost exactly one hour. The process was exactly as explained here, and everything went smoothly. Tapping the old motor caused the window to lower to the point I could reach the bolts holding the glass. I was happy that I did not have to cut the cables on the old regulator to get the window to lower. I had ordered the new regulator from Amazon for less than $55, paying no shipping and expecting it to take about a week. The regulator came in four days -- on a Sunday, no less. This is an excellent training video. The last time I had a regulator replaced at a shop, the charge was upwards of $300. Thank you very much for making the video.

    At 21:21, you will see a large hole next to a small hole just below the window opening on the right side of the video. I raised up the window and stuck a large screwdriver into this hole to hold the glass up out of the way. This gave me plenty enough room to work

    • @sergiikvasnyi188
      @sergiikvasnyi188  Před 6 lety +1

      I am lucky that I have manual transmission so I haven't gotten this issue. I haven't replace the radiator, but I have replaced the water pump with thermostat. Afterwards, I did a nice flush and filled with new OEM coolant.

    • @CaseyCJL
      @CaseyCJL Před 6 lety

      i see. yeah i have an automatic. Apparently there is some issue with coolant mixing with the transmission fluid and the remedy for this is to replace the radiator. I'm still learning but a lot of people have been unlucky to open their radiator cap and notice that the fluids mixed together which ruins the transmission. But i guess you won't have this problem.

    Great video, I had the same problem with my Xterra 2006, taping the door to make the Window go up or down, I took all apart, motor and raíl, I notice that the problem was electrical because the little motor did not responded to the switch comand, removed the motor metal cover that has 3 screws, unscrewed the motor twisting counterclok wise and found tons of black powder covering the brushes, I clean everything with Qtips and alcohol, lubricated the brushes springs as well, the magnets in the motor case, put all back together after testing the up and downs and is working great.

    • @sergiikvasnyi188
      @sergiikvasnyi188  Před 6 lety

      Thank you for your comment. It all depends on amount of carbon brushes which are left, but usually if you already have some issues with electrical motor, it is most likely worn out. From my experience, cleaning them will give you some time, but eventually it will fail again.

    I have an 08 Xterra. I replaced the driver’s door switch as my window was down and wouldn’t come up. I bought a new motor/regulator in one. If I unplug the old motor and plug on the new motor without actually installing it-is that a way to see if the new motor works? I tried that but nothing happened. Does the new motor/regulator have to be installed in the door to work?

    Sergii, I've done everything you have up to 10:14. My window had gone all of the way down beyond where I could disconnect it. When I saw you hammering on the metal next to the motor to raise the window, I thought, "this is the craziest thing I've ever seen." I had nothing to lose so I got a rubber hammer and started hitting the same spot you were while holding the window button in "up" position. By the time I hit it the third time it went all the way up by itself! If the switch and the motor are both working, I wonder if the mechanism doesn't need a good cleaning and lubrication instead of replacing the motor? I'm stopping here and will look more into why pounding on the inner door panel made it work. Thank you again :)

    • @sergiikvasnyi188
      @sergiikvasnyi188  Před 6 lety +2

      Hello Vaughn, as long as your carbon brushes have enough material on them it should work again after cleaning. In my experience, if you already gotten some issues with the window motor, it has most likely worn out. Cleaning will give you some time, after, it will fail again. It gave me around 1 year of regular use.

    • @vaughn1111
      @vaughn1111 Před 6 lety

      If it's the brushes, I can replace them. If the commutator is dirty, I'll sand and clean it. Maybe I can get another year out of mine too?

      I decided after 154,000 miles, something in the mechanism was allowed to wear out. So I ordered a whole new replacement and installed it this morning. It was easy after watching you. I took the old motor apart and one of the brushes was worn so short and stuck that it'd only occasionally touch the commutator. The commutator was also very dirty and in a survival situation could be made to work. However, every moving part on the unit I installed is brand new so I'm very happy and thanks again :)

      Only if it's relatively new car and all windows wouldn't work. In most situations it will be problem with worn out brushes.
