That's why I created this series. It's about doing my metal brethren a service. Will it chug or not! Any tips of gear for me to feature in this series? Put a comment below.

      Elliot Puckett Just do a metal tone but dial down the gain and up the mids a little. Same goes for distortion. Choose a distorted amp, do whatever with effects, find a good balance between resonance and the other thing (forgot its name but it’s on the power amp) and I usually go for a marshall 100 W cab.

    4:39 this combo probably features a full-range ("full voiced" as advertised) speaker, not a guitar one. So they are using cabinet simulations to mimic every sound possible. Now that makes sense.

    • @ItsJustEmK
      @ItsJustEmK Před 5 lety +16

      So here's the bizarre thing - it's not! It has a normal guitar amp speaker and as you can hear in the video, the combination of the speaker and cab sims makes it dark and boxy sounding by default. Simply turning off the cab simulation while playing through the speaker gets you infinitely better results. The defaults and presets are mind-bogglingly bad unless you're recording direct.

      I used to put an od808 with the tone cranked in front of an fm212r and it's not bad at all. The mid cut switch in the lead channel only seems to cut out the low mids and some of the fizzy highs so just dime the mid knob with the mid cut switch and you're good to go on a Pantera/early CC tone.

      @gggfx yeah that would be cool. I have this amp and love it, great for Metal, you just have to know how to use it, having the cab sim on ruins it for saturated and chuggy tones. You turn that off and you can nail just about any tone from any band you like, (especially if they play through a marshall) I got a great Zakk Wylde tone, as well as finding some good Megadeth tones as well. Highly recommend. And there are other people on youtube who got metal tones out of it, but none of them sound as good as mine do in person (imo)
