    I previously owned the TX-LP and the GP, but foolishly sold both and have recently found myself missing that sound a great deal. I have fond memories of the LP (wasn't so crazy about the GP tbh), especially because of the blend feature and that killer boost which worked wonders goosing up drive pedals placed after it. But I'm so glad to have found this video, because with news of the recent reissue TX and TX-L, I was going to splurge for the latter (because more $ = better, right?), but boy am I glad I found this video as the Standard and TX especially blew that one out of the water as far as I'm concerned. I can appreciate the Lundahl being hifi and all, but their in-house iron core transformer seems much more complementary to guitar sounds. Great resource, this vid- many thanks!

    This is how a comparative review should be done.
    If I were to go for one? The TX :-)

    EXCELLENT comparison of these units. I just heard of this brand and this compressor and went searching for information. Yours is the best video without a doubt!

    That was a damn good comparison! I just bought the standard for bass today and this video confirms that I made the right purchase. Thanks for posting this.

    How could you afford to have all three at once? You must have won the lottery! :D
    Great comparison with some clever brains!
    Without a fortune most people could never hear their sound, so thank you for showing us!

    Thanks for showing us such a marvelous palette of scales other than the pentatonic one.

    Bought a TX after hearing this. Thanks for a great demo. This is exactly how a pedal demo should be done. Quick switching !

    The TX did it for me. The real test was at heavier comp settings and my focus was still on the guitar with the TX, whereas both with the STD and LP, the effect of compression became my listening focus.

    WOW! I am amazed - I thought the Lundahl was going to blow the others out of the water! The standard iron core one sounds sooooo much fatter - I know which I am buying, great demo - thank you.

    Recording Fender Rhodes and Wurli through the tx version. What with the preamp, limiting effect, and transformer color I just simplified my previous recording chain by %1000. Wowsers. great for bass on vintage synths too. It's a keeper.

    The STD for me sweet as refreshing as clean water on a thirsty day, I wish they still had them.

    TX sounds so juicy

  • @TyGerhardt
    @TyGerhardt Před 9 lety +2

    The TX sounds really great but it doesn't do what I want from a compressor which is to not add anything. I want my compressor to be really transparent. It would be nice to be able to have both transformers and be able to switch them with a mini toggle for when I wanted that coloration but for 90% of what I want to do with a compressor the STD is perfect. They're just too big and too expensive to justify having both on a board.
    Looks like I'll be buying the STD.

      Since this was posted 4 years ago I doubt this will help you now but I just wanted to point out that if you connect a 9v power supply instead of a 18v power supply to the TX it bypasses the transformer and the unit becomes a STD unit.

  • @guitarlson
    @guitarlson Před 9 lety +1

    Yes! Please tell us if these are all being run at 18v

  • @TheVigilantStewards

    Was the buffer on on the STD? It sounded so transparent that it was a little too there on the top end. Then it occurred to me I hate most buffers because of that and thought it might be on. Other than that the STD sounded really good, I wish there was a toggle to bring in the TX. The lundahl sounded very clipped/pluncky and hollow and not hi fi at all - best with heavy squish rare use. The TX still had a little bit of that L quality but it also gave more Punch and Fatness than the STD. Were you playing direct in this video or through amp? The TX still had hollowed highs and weird low mud but sounded nice, would be good to toggle in. The STD was really nice but a bit harsh at times, but it did sound like you were on a Tele? I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear if this matches what you found in person. Thank you - and super curious if that buffer was on or off.

    I like the TX, but i'd love to hear a bass comparison. But for me, I need to have a blend knob or the compression is too distracting while I'm playing.

    • @KEVBOYMUSIC
      @KEVBOYMUSIC Před 4 lety

      They're unfortunately really hard to find now but the TX-P is a TX unit with a blend knob and boost. It's killer for bass.

    6:12 is where i notice the Lundahl nailed it for me. It just has more clarity and pristine top end.
    PS: Thank you, great video!

  • @AmpAHolic-wn6mr

    Their all stunning. I own the iron core TX version. Tops for guitar. Run It at 9v to bypass the transformer and it becomes the standard version. The Lundahl has its place, but It’s thinner and more hifi. I believe it would make a better companion for studio use.

    • @KEVBOYMUSIC
      @KEVBOYMUSIC Před 4 lety

      Yeah it's unfortunate that it wasn't more clear that the TX can become STD units with a 9v power supply. I've got a TX-P and I'll never let it go, it's always on in my guitar rig, and I'd put it up against most studio compressors.

    • @KEVBOYMUSIC
      @KEVBOYMUSIC Před 4 lety

      If you connect a 9v to the TX it bypasses the transformer and becomes a STD unit. Best of both worlds.
