For me it will always be the HW80 simply for the sentimental value as the HW80 was the second airrifle i ever bought back in 1987 for £115 brand new and stupidly sold it , something i always regretted. Howeveri recently i managed to pick up a 1991 vintage HW80 as i wanted the same mk2 stock and open sights.
What a lovely comparison of two incredible Air rifles! Incredible groups like always in such windy conditions. So tempted to buy another HW80 or s new 95......a very tough choice.
Have the R9(HW80), AA TX200 and Diana 48. Spring rifles are awesome, love they are self contained, no air tanks or compressors needed. Keep making videos, I would like to see the air rifles sport grow into what it deserves to be. It needs more exposure. No ammo shortages and much cheaper to shoot than powder powered guns.
That was some nice groups at 35 yards with the wind. I always wanted the R1 back years ago. I never have shot an HW80/R1. Kinda wish they would have done the 125th anniversary edition in the HW80, but I still don't know. The extra price and weight of the HW80 just doesn't seem to make it a worthwhile jump in my head like it did when comparing them in a catalog years ago. Some airguns just feel good in the hands. A combination of weight, balance and how chunky the the foregrip makes up that certain feel that's just right. The HW95 has that and it makes me want to shoot it, especially when standing and walking. I guess that's what makes the 95 so popular with most people. Yours is shooting shooting pretty hot in .22 and really closing in on the HW80 in power.
If you can shoot the full power versions (as in the vid) then the HW80 is the better gun. If you're stuck with sub-12 ft lb as I am in the UK then the HW95 is the better gun because it is closer to the design muzzle energy, lighter and a bit more refined. All the stuff they do to reduce the power of the HW80 does nothing to improve it's accuracy and it is a lot heavier.
I have two different weihrauch 97 the regular and the 97kt blackline both extremely accurate and well made from the factory and a few weeks ago I got a weihrauch 50s witch is the same as the 99s sold in England and its so lightweight and easy to cock its like no effort at all and the accuracy is just as good as on the 97 the one rifle that's truly a favourite to me is my air arms pro sport in 22cal its proper craftsmanship i do also have a few gamos they can also be accurate with the correct pelets and a decent scope witch is important for all guns anyway 😅 the groupings you got was really nice in my opinion
I absolutely agree with you on feet per second and muscle energy the shot placement is the most crucial in hunting and a Ower powerful gun is hard to shoot accurately I'm thinking about getting the weihrauch 77 in 22cal since you always put out honest reviews it truly looks like a great rifle 😊
I have a hw 80s long barrel in 22 and shoots fantasic and a old rifle and i have a 77 shoots just right in 22 and a great trigger and my Hw35e in 177 and it shoots great very accurate but it depends who is shooting it there all set up for myself and if I had some live traps i have a nice smk pistol for i use the new wasp pellets seen my self setting the traps and come back to them and there is some in the trap and the pistol head shots only and bagged cleaned gutted skin and left over night and all cut and into bbq sauce ready for a bbq some of the family and friends never had one to eat when it all cut and in the bbq sauce it looks rabbit we had lots of burgers chicken then when i told they had been the grays they were quiet and i heard a little talking and it was i have eating it and it was good and if you want more i will clean them and skinned and joint and into the freezer and i had about 12 in the frezzer and with phone call all gone told as the year moved it gets harder to get them
Hi Chuck! I enjoy watching your videos, and I have a favor to ask. Could please talk about your scopes sometime? Ease of use, clarity, reliability, which one you prefer. Thanks!
Thank you coming from the uk I have a tuned 95 with the fully adjustable 98 stock and what you might not know across the water, hello American friends, is when I say say fully tuned we are restricted to 12 ft/lb. So it might seem a little bit silly but I'm happy with 11.7 ft/lb as I tune it but my gun has polished shears, full ptfe top hats and slider rings on the spring, and also major piston has been machined and had delron rings machined to suit piston way (no metal on metal contact). What does it achieve? A breack barrel rifle that is so consistent that if you take to an indoor range it will do inch groupings at 60 yards. At 11.7 ft/ lb. It is a bit of thing in the uk with our gun laws to take the time as I have done but what the man says is just right. The 95 was built for European Market and it was never designed for anything above 17ftlb, but they did engineeer for 17ftlb outside of Europe. The hw 80 is a completely diffrent beast, its why it weighs so much. Its just as accurate as as 95, only its built for power. If you did the work on a hw80 like my gun, and maxed out power, you are talking almost 40ftlb with almost as sweet a trigger pull as my tuned 95. The hw 80 is the overbuilt "GO USA" do what you will and tune it, and you really should do! It's a quality gun with quality barrel x x
I have shot 3/4" at 50 yards outside with my HW80 22 and 0 tune done to it. The HW80 will never do 40 FPE, not even close. The HW 80 tops out at about 20 FPE in 22 caliber. I have searched out this subject high and low, and keep finding the same numbers. My HW80 has a high output spring and a pop bottle shim on the spring guide, and from what I have seen, does just as well as a tuned rifle.
