Great run down of the bike, I didn't realize the bar clamps had some other mounting options in there. Great vid👍

    That was surprisingly light. I suppose keep an eye on that scale and see if other bikes where you are provided a weight spec come in lighter than expected. Might need to compare it againat another scale.
    I find it intereating that Trek spec'd Maxxis tires. Usually they would use their house brand. I wouldn't be surprised that the supply chain is so messed up they don't have sufficient stock.

      you have to get an externally routed dropper as the frame does not have a hole at the bottom. The cool thing is that the external post only has to be external on the set tube section, then you can internally rout from the bottom of the frame up to the cockpit. It is dumb that trek didn't just put that hole in the frame when there are 2 holes at the front of the frame for internally routing cables. I have the 2021 marlin 7 and added a dropper. The frame hasn't changed, just the wheels and tires.

    is this strictly for off-road trails or can I use it for daily commuting purpose as well?? I'm thinking about getting this one, but I don't have any knowledge about MTBs I just love their looks and what people can do with them. I'm a student currently and do uber delivery work, so is it good for that purpose or should I just go for 5 or 6 which are a more chilled out bikes that are said good for commuting and Ok-ish off-road trial.

    26.24 pounds? I'd bank on it that the scale wasn't playing nice like you said. The specs on the bike have 30ish pounds written all over it. I'm guessing you probably take the opportunity to lift a lot of the bikes you review on here in addition to weighing them with the scale. I know I would. First thing I do when I see a bike in a bike shop is lift it lol. From what you remember from the Blur, any chance a bike like the Marlin 7 can actually be lighter, even with the rear shock on the Blur? Or how about the carbon Chameleon? I realize tire/wheel setup will add weight to the bike but that should I'm guessing be more than offset by the carbon frame and lighter components across the board.
    If by chance though this bike really does weigh 26.24 pounds, then Trek has just cracked the code and found the holy grail of price/performance/weight combination that just hasn't existed in this price range before.

    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah.. I'm pretty certain the scale was optimistic. Normally I don't re-weigh when what comes on the screen passes a reality check. The Trek quoted weight of about 30lbs is more than likely accurate

      @@Jamesthebikeguy for one they won’t get any disc rub, two the bike would be capable of much heavier trail use, and three it would have up to date technology which road, cx and gravel have already adopted for the last few years. Even the $2000 xcaliber 9 only has boost 141 QR! Trek are way behind the times. I wouldn’t even consider a bike like that without thru axles.

    I bought the new model 2022 after my 2018 marlin 7 was stolen. (it took 8 months to arrive) If all you do is ride trail with the new bike I guess you might not need the extra gears on the front... BUT... if you want to go any faster on a paved surface your out of luck. 15, maybe 16 mph max, as you just cant peddle any faster because of the gear ratio. I brought mine back to the shop and I'm having the front gears installed. I might replace the peddles (cheap plastic) and the seat (pretty small) Other than that it rides really nice. But I really miss the other model, it was (for me) perfect right out of the box. My opinion is the just Trek went cheap taking the front gears off.
