  • With Shadow Throne on the horizon, what better time to rush to the table with a score of reinforcements for your Genestealer Cult? With a handful of brushes and a few Contrast paints under your belt you can turn out an eminently respectable force of ne'er-do-wells, no-goodniks and supplicants to an all-devouring alien power in no time at all!
    I've wanted to do a speed painting guide on Rusted Claw for what seems like years, now, and Shadow Throne is absolutely the perfect excuse!

    I started 40k as a hobby 2 weeks ago. I go with GSC as my first army. This here helped me ALOT. Thank you so much. My first painted miniature almost looks like the one you made. Someone even told me that it was the best "first miniature" he has ever seen. Im so grateful sir.

    My son has painted up a bunch of these guys. In our games of This Is Not A Test he used them as mutants and I used a group of old school Chaos Cultists as raiders. And henceforth the bloody feud between the Rusted Claws and the Zone Raiders was born. Great tutorial. You could really field a decent amount of cultists in little time with just a few paints.

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio It's a good game. Inexpensive PDFs and it is a miniature agnostic game so you can use whatever minis you have. I pretty much play that, Space Weirdos, Planet 28, Reign In Hell, Blood Bowl, and Killteam. Picked up Mini Gangs from Ramshackle Games the other week and waiting for it to arrive in the mail. I lean more toward skirmish games.

    I like genestealer cult and astetic but for people who have the best stealth rules they are as bad as space marines in being subtile, they pick blue and purple which is the same shade as the monsters they are associated with and worship, have huge icons dedicated to said monsters and ones which pass or sort of pass for human even have armor molded to resemble genestealer carpace.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio

      A white or bone colour will work fairly well. Skeleton Bone will give you a darker finish on your Contrast, but it might honestly work quite well with the wash/drybrush beforehand like I've done here. Otherwise, a plain white could work just fine!

    Superb! Another Sonic Genestealer Cultists paint video. These are some of my favorites, and I know you have a few. One question though: why the base with dirt and a tuft of grass? I'd expect these to be mostly factory workers or miners, and so the base should be either rocky or urban/Necromunda-ish. Just in my opinion, of course, and I *might* have commented the same in one of your older GSC videos! :P

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +1

      The Rusted Claw are noted as being wasteland types that see to the mining and recovery operations largely above ground, so I figured in this case a grubby desert base would work a little better. It ties into the orange scheme a bit more as well - a neat example of keeping the base in the same general style as the miniature rather than using it as a place to add a lot of visual contrast.

  • @JBenderP

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety

      I use a mix of Citadel and Army Painter normally. I still end up with them splitting occasionally, but a quick twirl against the palette will straighten them out and let me get back to painting.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio

      Grey Seer is going to give you a slightly more washed-out finish overall, but the shade and drybrush will help keep the highlights from the Contrast nice and bright. It'll work just fine using Grey Seer, I'd say.

    I just.... I just can't get into contrast colors. They always look so lacking no matter where they're used. At best it's more wash colors when thinned down, but it's never a solid replacement for actual painting.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +1

      To each their own, I guess! Ordinarily I'd prefer to take things a little further as well, but to my eye they work perfectly well as the base for adding more to. From experience I can say they're not just more washes, but given some of them do behave differently to others in the line (looking at you, Aethermatic Blue) without it being clear from the bottles, that can be a little frustrating.
