Here's My Opinion: Based on his story, both "boy friends" were on the cover of the "Sex Life" Magazine with the same girl. Yet two different additions. In both scenarios, there a common factor, and one variable. The Girl/Magazine then the guys. This could mean that A) She's been offered this job at least twice, or B) She works for the magazine directly or through an agent. She knew what the cover required, and provided. No medical journal would (that i know of), legitimately, require models to intensely make out whilst topless. Red Flag in my books. To address the Listener's reaction: Let's say she's been offered the job, if not landed the gig. That would have to be no less than twice. And with his puzzled reaction, he's more than likely seen this woman before. That reaction wouldn't have been displayed in disgust or as a "that's unbelievable" sense. That's best described as "fuck...I've seen her before dude". And with that knowledge, if he's seen her before, could it not have been the same magazine? Considering that it's a "Sex Life" magazine, there's a good possibility that she could A) Be the star of an "Adult Film" as these magazine cultures are notorious for bringing these stars on set. Or B) She's just in the market for this particular line of work. (And maybe for other magazines?)
The Original Boyfriends Disappearance: I'm almost 100% sure she lied about his disappearing act.
There's not once, did the speaker mention any confirmation in him leaving. He most likely took her word for it. And this is the boyfriend she lives with, why is she not in distraught? She simply...moves on. Illogical. (Unless he just didn't mention it). For all we know, she just kept her boyfriend well hidden. And for Christopher to just casually call the speaker with no explanation for his time away, shows he probably never left. Seeing as to how the speaker and the girl have same interests, she probably has a sort of attraction to him and found a participant for the cover. We know she "needed the money". And typically with these Magazine lines, two guys sharing one girl sounds like content. Don't we all love a Scandal? (season 6 was lit btw).
