Find Out Which Train is the Easiest Way to Get From London to Gatwick!

- In the next part of my mini series into airport trip reports, we find ourselves heading south to Gatwick Airport to check the different routes you can take to get there from London. We will be looking at the Gatwick Express service and the offering from Thameslink to see how the two compares.
We will be taking the Class 387 Gatwick Express from London Victoria to Gatwick then take the Class 700 Thameslink back up to St Pancras International.

This was good but I did think it was a bit misleading. There's little difference in journey time from Victoria-Gatwick using Gatwick Express to London Bridge-Gatwick on Thameslink. I guess you thought Thameslink was slower because on that you went on to St.Pancras, the far side of Central London. Incidently from Central London it would take at least twice as long to Gatwick by taxi.
Gatwick Express should of ordered more Class 387/2s as some are with Southern and Great Northern used to hire couple of the Class 387/2s before they replaced them with the Class 387/3s from c2c and some were on hire with GWR.
This is an unfair comparison as Gatwick Express is a premium service that normally does not stop at East Croydon. You however have failed to compare it with Southern’s fast services between Victoria and the coast calling at Clapham Junction & East Croydon then Gatwick for much less than GX. I would have expected that to been discussed in this video even if you failed to travel on it.
You know what….? You are absolutely right! I cannot figure out why I didn’t include Southern in the conversation. I feel like on the day Gatwick Express covered Southern stop off at East Croydon so it just skipped my mind. Thanks for the comment, might do a follow up this summer
