My partner has just been diagnosed with HPV cervical cancer. It's only been a week since we received our first test and a day from it being confirmed. We are still waiting for the biopsy to come back and my partner goes in tomorrow for an MRI. Our specialist said it looks to be stage 2 as my partner has a 4cm growth. I am so worried and not knowing the future scares us. I know we are in for a roller coaster ride but I will be there for my partner no matter what.
I'm so glad that you're alright. You and your doctors missed several steps. First, you should have received your HPV vaccine, when you were 11-12 years old. If you had, you never would have had cancer. The HPV vaccine protects against strains 16, 18, and several more high-risk strains. Secondly, your doctor in Oregon never should have allowed a skipped year of PAP test, that was a big mistake. Testing is recommended every other year, ONLY for women who have never had an abnormal PAP smear, and that was not you. HPV testing does not matter that much. If you have an abnormal PAP smear, you are pre-cancerous, and need to be monitored closely. Since HPV is responsible for 90% of cervical cancers, you can assume HPV positivity, if you have cervical cell changes detected in a PAP smear. The HPV vaccine is now recommended for everyone, between ages 11-49. If you and your husband have not yet been vaccinated, you should do so now. Though you are already infected by strain 16, you could still be infected by 18, or other high-risk strains that could. cause other cancers. In addition to cervical cancer, HPV is also the primary cause of oral cancer, throat cancer, anal cancer, and others. HPV is simply the wart virus, and it is everywhere. It can be sexually transmitted, but it can be transmitted other ways, including simply shaking hands with someone who has warts, or the virus, on his or her hands. It is a contact virus that is very easy to transmit. Please, everyone, get your HPV vaccination!
She's not alright, she passed away. But even so, telling someone what they did wrong and then trying to tell them what they should do is certainly not helpful. You were probably just trying to help but it comes off as insensitive and rude. Not only that, but some of your information is incorrect. Saying Hpv is "simply a wart virus" is blatantly incorrect. Some strains cause warts, some cause cancer and some have no symptoms at all. Also, very important, you CANNOT get Hpv from casual contact such as hugging or shaking hands. There are many other viruses that cause warts which are contagious so you are mixing those up wirh Hpv. Please educate yourself at minimum and perhaps work on your sensitivity as well.
