That move doesn't show respect I'm afraid, but the fact Master Wan thinks he can beat Master Ip even if on his same "wounded" level. I read it like "a hand will be enough for you".
The decision to fight one handed was really incredibly honorable and a class act!
Of all the Ip Man scenes, this is my favourite. Honour, respect, loyalty to their beliefs and styles and it's an epic fight sequence. Love this...

The fight being interrupted by the earthquake is a beautiful nod to the theme of mortality. Ip Man explained in the second movie that no matter how skilled you are, you will eventually succumb to nature. Here we have two of the most skilled masters in a duel, but nature does not wait or care; it happens upon you and the best you can do is try to get out of the way…just like they did by taking shelter under the table.

The level of honour and respect in this scene here is astronomical level emotional.
This is by far one of the best scenes in the entire Ip Man series. It’s unmatched by most fighting scenes. Kudos to the Director, the Actors of course (BOTH are on top), and the little magician of photography behind the camera and the wizard in the editing room.
Ip man didn't roll up his sleeves. He didn't want to embarrass Master Wan in front of his daughter.

Nah, Ip Man would have lost this one if the fight continued. He was old, had cancer and was far past his prime. The other dude was in his prime and younger.

He was far from winning, tai chi guy had him on the back foot and was going in for the kill. The tai chi guy offering to fight him one handed was a insult, tai chi guy was already winning before that. Ip man got some hits in, but it wouldn't have mattered.
Imagine these two if they fought in their prime. That would’ve been an even more epic fight
If Ip Man was at his peak, this fight wouldn't last as long.

Ip man already won a fight with a half-way kick into Master Wan abdomen but he intentionally stopped his kick. Master Wan went crazy mode soon after because Ip Man had been going easy on him a whole fight.

It's interesting to have one speaking Cantonese and one speaking Mandarin. More movies should do this, let them act in their native tongue.
But in real life it is unrealistic and illogical, although it indirectly reminds us of the iconic video game Tekken
One of the many things Chinese martial art movies do well that American can't besides choreography and camera work is how well you can really see the differences in fighting styles. They have such a natural rhythm or flow with their strikes and counterstrikes almost smooth like a dance.
This is what I call a beautiful, fair and humble match between two mature people in martial arts. Although they broke everything in the house xD
Actually they only broke a few things. The earthquake wrecked everything else around them.
I see no tighter movie action sequences than this franchise today.

I think with single hand, Ipman had 3 dominations ,while Master wan had got single dominaton.
While Ipman hand is injured saving wans daughter few hours back+ cancer suffering ,it was obvious Master wan dominated initially.

I don't think it would have taken Ip Man long to find an opening even if the fight continued with two hands, Ip Man just had to get used to Wan's style
I don't think it was Ip getting used to it. I think the real reason Wang had the upper hand initially was because ip man was also being careful with his injured hand. While wang was using both hand fully. When the put one hand behind they were on fair terms again and ip didn't have to worry as much about his injured hand. (That's my thought)
Master Ip really can’t catch a break, can he? Even in the most friendliest of terms, some master is always like… “Yo, Ip! Let’s spar for a bit! Let’s see what you got!” I mean like come on, dude. Someone probably told you how badass Ip is even past his prime. Like word of mouth should be enough if so many people talk about it already.

Given Ip Mans experiences with racism, many people might have fallen into the same trap themselves, yet he doesn't hate white people who bully asians and even critizises those who do, insisting on peaceful dialouge instead. Ip Man is incredibly noble.

I see Wing Chun as more fluid and practical rather than pretty prose and pose. Though it is Donnie Yen, I don’t believe Wing Chun masters would forbid some technical changes in improving the art. After all, changes allow flexibility which consequently brings improvements.

There was such a tournament in ancient times. The Lei Tai was such a tournament back in the old days. You can see a version of it in Jet Li's film "Fearless". That elevated platform where two man can fall over the edge if they are not careful is the Lei Tai arena.

Realistically, there will be 2 outcomes:
1. Frank wins, hands down. He is a Lightning Bruiser.
2. IP Man might win because he held back by not kicking Frank on the crotch which would have really changed the outcome of the fight.

Both sure are masters of their respective martial arts of Kung Fu branch…. Master Wan’s Tai Chi and Ip Man Wing Chun. Both martial arts are great in terms of counter and defensive, both also great martial artist that is not easy feat.

Master Hong, even with health issues, fought incredibly and he is the best of the three. His technique is so powerful along with his skill level. He would have defeated Twister if he was physically well -- not an easy task at all! In another instance, Master Hong and IP Man throws series of very fast lightning punches to each other, but Master Hong goes in reverse direction and still manages IP Man's punches!!
Next is Master Wan, and third is Master Chun, but very close to Master Wan. Just imagine how much powerful Master Hong would have been without health issues (asthma and physical issues) and if he was younger. A very very tough fight for even IP Man!!
But, IP Man is at a different level from these three I must say!! In any of these fights he fought with these three masters, just observe they were all severe, wanted to do everything to defeat him, no holds bar, etc. But IP Man, on the other hand, was not about ruthlessness. If he was ruthless and unleashed himself like a beast, then he would be much more devastating. I hope your 7-month old question has been answered.

That's because The late Great Grandmaster assigned both Wong Shun Leung and William Cheung to train Bruce Lee
Wrong. William Cheung introduced Bruce Lee to Ip Man. While William may have been Bruce's senior in classes, Sifu Ip was in fact their Master.

They preached about a lot of stuff but they are clueless and useless. Respect is a two way street. What a sh*tty father he is to let his kid being bullied.
