Axminster Dual Window System

  • The Axminster Window System is a custom designed set of tooling manufactured exclusively for Axminster by OMAS Spa. of Italy. It is aimed specifically at the small/mid range joinery shop, with an adequate spindle moulder and with an X-feed/tenoning capability, to enable window production to be fast, economical and profitable. A survey of the current styles offered by the mass joinery producers and discussion with various joiners concerning their customers' requirements, led us to design a system that can produce flush or stormproof windows, with a clean, modern looking bevelled frame and either bevel or ovolo patterned sashes/casements. Traditional hinges, fasteners and stays, multi-point espagnolette locking, friction stays, etc., can all be catered for within the flexibility of the system. Rainhoods and extended ledges are added as extensions to the frame, or can be ignored when the requirement is for a replacement window to fit into an existing reveal already complete with cill and rain canopy.
    The tooling, as designed, uses the concept of system zero, i.e. the spindle is set to a specific height and locked. The tool groups, when mounted, are automatically at their correct operating height. However, this does not preclude the separation of the tool groups (they can easily be re-assembled) and the use of the individual tools for other tasks, (within their dimensional capabilities) e.g. the 'speed build' open mortice group, when reversed, can be used as a useful tenoning set; the variable glazing rebate cutters from the profiling group can be used as a variable grooving tool, etc.
    PLEASE NOTE: We no longer stock this set of tooling.

    Nice tools! But really the wood used will make the window warp in no time. Best is to use laminated hard wood with grains opposed and then do the magic with the tools. I think with the cost of hardwood windows in the UK today it is well worth doing it yourself.

    aren't these mounted backwards or do windows open to the exterior in the UK? The tooling looks well made but these windows resemble what they used to make 60 years ago here in Belgium with just a single contact point between frame and casement. The norm has been 3 contact points for decades here which drastically improves insulation. Also the stiles of the frame and casement in this technique have end grain below exposed to moisture which cause the windows to rot, that method has been abandoned here long ago.

    • @edwardcharles9764
      @edwardcharles9764 Před 7 lety +4

      Timothy Wilmots yes windows open outwards to the exterior in the UK. If the windows are dripping wet after heavy rain, who with the frame covered in snow, who would want them opening inwards? The film is to demonstrate the versatility of the machine in making a window frame. Frames haven't been made like this decades in the UK either, especially out of softwood with our weather. We mainly use double glazed UPVC Windows and doors now.

    I am a joiner and this is way too many tooling changes. It would take forever to make a window with this system. Also at 6.58 there is no support when exiting the cutter block that machines the front sections that have a taper. The last part will drop into the block and snatch. Dangerous and would never carry out this way.
