How the hell I have to tune my Snare Drum to get this sound?!
i was thinking the same thing in this video and another one with keith carlock
He uses Gretsch snares and Evans heads, I think he shows you how he tunes on his new DVD.
How the hell people think that using same heads/snares/drum will make them sound like a legendary drummer?!!
Get real : The snare sounds like that 95% because of the way he smack the shit outta it, 2,5% because of room, 2% microphone choice and placement, .5% tuning...
Well just to give and idea but y'all get the point
I always try to have the bes tuning BTW but truth is I heard many drums that sounded okay or bad isolated but grea in the mix.
Its a low tuned snare. bottom tight, top loose. just above wrinkel. Tuned until it just starts to get tension. Also... tighten the snares pretty good. A low tuned snare like this needs that. otherwise it will rattle like crazy! Use some mufflling also so you get rid off the overtones.
I use a snare tuned like this on my left most times nowadays. love it in contrast with a high tuned main snare!
