  • Earlier this week I put out a pilot version of Dreamsequence that works with the note-playing library, Nota Bene. I was kinda reluctant to do so since this involves removing some features and I don't get much benefit out of it as a user of the script (support for all the devices I sequence is already integrated into the script). But I figured there are folks without all my equipment that might enjoy getting access to NB synth voices.
    I wanted to understand the whole pseudo-engine thing a bit better so yesterday I undertook the extremely intimidating process of porting PolyPerc (the simple synth engine the production version of DS uses) into an NB voice. I've never used SuperCollider so it was a lot to take in, but I did get it working. One thing that I couldn't figure out, however, was this bit in the code about "sends". Today I learned that this is for FX mod, which is yet another incredible bit of work from the creator of NB that adds a whole effect send/return chain to NB voices!
    Anyway, I got that working and thought it'd be fun to share my first couple of minutes messing around with the thing. It's not, like, a musical masterpiece but these moments where I get to try out my creation for the first time are what it's all about for me.
    So to bring it back to my initial rambling: at this point I'm really sold on NB for making music entirely within Norns- something I haven't been very interested in until this moment.
    Patch notes:
    Just Norns! Chord (strummed 3-note tuplet at first) is Emplaitress (poly Plaits) and the rest is NB PolyPerc through the FX mod versions of Rings and Clouds.

    Interesting! I always take something away from these -- tx Dan!! The post you linked to above, excellent. And the CZcams video the post starts with, wow, your patch is downright tidy. 👌

    I love it. Messed around with it on piano.
    CM7 -> Em7 | FM7 -> Em7 is the main idea.
    Then I did another repating pair bewteen Gm7 and Dm7 but without the melody rest, just solid triplets.
    Thank you for sharing.

    Great flow ❤questions the sound come from the Norns?and grids have special setup for act with Norns or is basic factory setup? Thanks for your works 🙏

      Yep- all the sounds are from Norns! IIRC, Norns only includes one example script (app) from the factory so it’s up to you to install or create your your own scripts depending on what you want to do. You can find many examples that are freely available at norns.community/explore
      What you’re seeing here is a script I made called Dreamsequence that lets you compose songs using Grid+Norns, along with some mods I installed to give Norns additional synth voices and effects (Mutable Instruments' Plaits, Rings, Clouds).
      So I’d say that this is a “factory setup” in terms of the equipment, but it does require installing some extra stuff which just takes a few minutes. I hope that makes sense!

      @@ModularBeat Thank you for take the time to write to me 🙏 i bought an original monome Norns is on his way and I have a new grids unopened waiting for it , when I ask about setup I mean if the grids needs special configurations for work correctly with Norns? Or is that every script In the Norns come with preconfigured for grids? I am new on that and I assume that is completely another concept to make music faraway from standard eurorack!! Basically I need to understand how to configure my grids for use it with Norns 😊

      @@dedodan1 In general, if the script supports Grid, it will do all the configuring for you! All you need to do is make sure Norns recognizes Grid in the System>>Devices menu and you are all set.
