- In this video we go over how to rebuild a Mercedes heating valve (also called the duovalve). Lots of older Mercedes use a similar valve to the own shown so this guide should be applicable for a lot of models. Just make sure you get the right repair kit for yours, there are some minor differences.
Some signs of a failing valve: no heat, too much heat, inconsistent heat, more heat on one side than the other, incorrectly diagnosed air conditioning issues.
Finding your channel was a blessing. I've got 2 W202s, a 180 and 280 V6, both with with issues to sort out.
So far you've helped me rebuild the head of the 180, it runs nice and smooth now. And subjectively, feels faster. Saved me 1000s on mechanics. Next job is to sort the ignition gremlin on the 280, leaking roof on the 180, suspension, electronics, heating system ( a previous mechanic stole the fan unit)……… ah, the joys of buying old cars.

Hello brother, cheers for the vid, i have a w638, im curious as to wether this could be my issue, i have no heat at all, comingninto winter here in aus, would be nice to feel my feet. Any ideas for me brother? Much appreciation
Nah man sorry, I've never worked on of those. My best advice is to crank the heater fully on with the engine warmed up, and put your hands on the heater hoses. If they're only warm, means something is blocking the coolant flow from reaching the heater core. You can try pulling the valve off and rigging up some longer hoses to reach the heater core without the valve in the way. If you then get heat, the valve is bad and stuck closed.

hello, i have a w202 c200 Mercedes from 1997 and i'm getting only getting warm air from the driver's side (right side from where i live) and cool air (a/c off) from the passenger side. i didn't buy any kit for the valve just cleaning a little bit, of course I'm going to order one soon but my main question is, what do you mean with two heating circuits in the heating core?
how did you reinstall it back in the car? In the W202 the ecu box is in the way and I can not install the hoses back on the valve.
You need to move some stuff out of the way to make room.
@@PatsCarGarage Yea I had to unbolt the ECU box. Even after doing that the box still had wires going under it and into the cabin. It at list gave me just enough wiggle room to attach the hoses again. It was a pain

I got mine on ebay. Just make sure the kit matches your year / model and it should be fine.
