Happy Birthday Cara and Happy Friendly New Year ! I am in Sydney ( emigrated 18 months ago from UK) and while I haven’t found a sewing social for dressmaking , I have found a wonderful group of ladies who make Boomerang Bags . We are volunteers who make tote bags form donated fabric and either sell them at markets or leave them outside shops so anyone who needs a bag can pick one up then return the next time they are passing ! It’s all about ‘saying no to plastic ‘. I think the groups are now worldwide but they started in Queensland so maybe other people who haven’t found a social group for dressmaking may have a Boomerang Bag group nearby ?! Just google Boomerang bags 😊. If anyone is on The Northern Beaches Sydney and knows of a dressmaking social nearby please give me a shout! Thanks Cara - you do a fabulous job ! Morna x

Happy 50 th Cara glad you enjoyed your special day Such a lovely vlog today that people are reaching out to you as you are such a lovely person I just wish I had done sewing while I was in the UK and able to meet you and others but now 15 yrs in Queensland Australia we don’t have as many sewers plus not as easy to travel as it’s such a vast country I am slowly finding people on CZcams that are in Australia which has been great You are doing an amazing job and really enjoy following you Have a wonderful year ahead and looking forward to seeing all your social catch ups ❤️

@@sosewmad Thanks Cara I am subscribed to these lovely ladies and even though I am out of action at the moment with my broken ankle/ leg I am using this time to learn as much as I can to then put into practice eventually when I can get back into sewing I bought some lovely material from Kirsten but didn’t get making anything so looking for lots of inspiration I’m calling myself an “ Advanced Beginner “ now as I’ve made a few wearable items ha ha Hope you have had a lovely week ❤️🌹

Lol your addiction continues! I love the raw edge coat, but sadly not the raw edge! I need to find a dark grey thin fleece material to line the coat with I reckon
@@sosewmad might not be exactly the right fabric, but Liz baker that sews has shown some thin quilted grey fabric on her vlog this evening which may work as a lining? xx

We've started a Sewing Club in Newark on Trent. The council gave us a grant and because we were so popular they paid for a free felting class b4 Christmas!

So glad I reached out to you, thank you for the encouragement. I’ve got my ticket for March and also one to The Gathering in Yorkshire in April. A long way to travel for me but it’s my birthday I weekend and they are doing a social as well. Excited to meet lots of people I watch on here😊

So lovely to hear about new sewing friendships you’re making and the plans you’ve been making, too! I like the raw edge jacket. Karina from lifting pins and needles has made raw edge versions of the Love Notions Metra Blazer. I think she top stitched around the edges. You may want to check out her video about it. Cara, I love your idea of fostering friendships within the sewing community. I also have taken a leap to reconnect with my college roommates. Last fall I contacted them both and we've met a few times since. It's been so good to see them again. I just don't know how 30 years slipped by so quickly while we were content with Christmas and birthday cards! My husband and I were in London in August, 2022, but I hadn't "met" any of my British sewing friends yet.Now every time we talk about returning to England, I'm always wondering how I could possibly meet up with some of my newfound "friends" in person.😂 I do intend to check out the virtual sewcial in the near future.

Cara, I am so pleased for you ❤ I was supposed to attend the online Sewcial but my head all over the place. I had shingles over Christmas and it has really left its mark o the nerves in my back. It's getting better but still painful without medication. I did text Sam asking which 1 I was attending and it was that evening but it was 8pm, I was gutted. Never mind. One day. Xx

Love to make friends for sewing. My sister and I sew over video link because we are 300 miles away. We love doing that. We chat and sew and show each other what we have made and we have been doing the Learn to Dressmake course from Little Miss Sew and Sew and have been enjoying making the same things together.
That's fabulous, it's such a great course. I'll mention that to Nikola she would love that

I agree not so easy to catch up with sewers in Australia but it would be good to have socials like they have in the UK though it’s nice to be able to watch all the Vlogs that get posted Thankyou Hayley ❤️
I forgot to say, a couple of years ago, Jo from Sew Joei and I did a collaboration using one fabric two ways (a lovely leopard print cotton jersey from Beyond the Pink Door). I sent her a video and she put it up on her channel, and I have it as my one and only on mine as well. Maybe some day I'll add to it, or start up a channel- it was fun. So you don't even have to have a channel going to do a collaboration with a CZcamsr.

If you're connecting with Alison (Sew Like Dotty) maybe you will make it to the Stitch in Tyne sewing social, Cara. It's only about 350 miles for you to travel! I've been three times so far but it's only about thirty miles for me! Sew Toon, which is nearby, has been going much longer so it's not surprising that they're fully booked.

Happy birthday! I'm envious too that you have all those lovely sewing socials. I live in Southwestern Ontario, in Canada, and there aren't any anywhere near me as far as I know. I think farther west towards Toronto there may be, but not around me. So I leave messages after everyone's videos, and pretend we are all friends instead. That's fun too.
