  • How does commuting on a DR650 look like in NYC?
it is important to be mindful of the unique challenges and risks involved with commuting on a motorcycle in NYC. From heavy traffic and tight streets to the constant hustle and bustle of city life, there are many factors that can contribute to stress and danger on the road.
One of the most significant challenges of commuting on a motorcycle in NYC is navigating the heavy traffic. With so many cars, buses, and other vehicles on the road, it can be difficult to find a clear path or get where you are going in a timely manner. To reduce stress and increase safety, it is important to plan your route in advance, allow extra time for your commute, and stay alert and focused while riding.
Another key factor to consider when commuting on a motorcycle in NYC is the tight, crowded streets. With limited space and a high volume of vehicles and pedestrians, it is important to be mindful of your surroundings and stay aware of potential hazards. This may include pedestrians crossing the road, cars changing lanes, or construction or other obstacles in your path. By staying alert and prepared, you can help reduce the risk of accidents and keep yourself safe on the road.
In addition to the logistical challenges of commuting on a motorcycle in NYC, there is also the stress and fatigue that can come with city life. To help reduce stress and maintain your well-being, it is important to take breaks when needed, practice self-care, and find ways to relax and unwind when you are not on the road. This may include taking a few deep breaths, meditating, or finding a quiet spot to rest and recharge.
Overall, commuting on a motorcycle in NYC can be a rewarding and convenient way to get around, but it is important to be mindful of the unique challenges and risks involved. By planning your route, staying alert and focused, and taking care of yourself, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable ride.

Congratulations on the new bike. DR650 is a amazing machine. I've been riding for 29yrs. My DR650 is by far the best bike I've owned yet. I run the wheels off of it while my other bikes sit. If you ever head south towards Va hit me up. Great riding routes & plenty of trails here. Well enjoy it & be on high alert riding there in NYC.

to NYC, we have that here in KC also. Thanks for taking us along. Ride on.

You definitely want to get the lowering kit for your DR. A lower profile rear tire will also help with seat height. Now take advantage of that big DR and get out of that city and do some back road exploring!

With Suzuki you can lower 40 mm in the front by moving the internals of the forks around. It’s in the manuals . There’s one video on CZcams of a guy doing it. After I seen that then I did my own. It was quite easy to drop the front in quite a bit. There’s also a spacer that the rear shocks sets on that has to be taken out and turned over and the rear shock moved up to the higher hole

@@missrebelmotodiaries I wrote this in 2010 in response to someone asking about moving to NYC from California and how the motorcycle experience would be there...."I'm sitting home here in San Luis Obispo area where I have lived since 1988. Before that (32years) was a native New Jersey boy. After 22 years out here I still every day ( and am an agnostic at best) PRAISE GOD that I live in California now. With regards to moving to NYC area, DON'T FUCKIN DO IT!!!! Look at the USA map and notice that LA to SF is roughly equal distance as Washington DC to Boston. Now notice that i[In between[/I] those two east coast points is Baltimore-Philly-NJ (most densely populated state)-NYC-Hartford and a non-stop flow of smaller cities in between all those major cities. So take the LA sprawl and run it non-stop to SF and out to Vegas. Now mix in hot/humid/rainy for much of June to September and cold/damp/slushy for November to March. Then watch "Jersey Shore" and imagine millions of those assholes driving all around you. Then throw in pissed-off cops and Donald Trump wanna-bes. Riding consist of waiting for a gap in the flow of cars and pulling out of your driveway and getting in line and staying there. I'm still in glory of being able to put my motorcycle in top gear and leaving it there for many miles. NEVER happen back there. I could go on but I'll just say again DON'T DO IT!! Go have a fun visit and eat some fuckin good-ass pizza (ONLY thing I miss) and call it good. As a motorcyclist it's Hell. For the others, it just sucks. This is all coming from a place of fellow-rider love. If you're friends see that your mental health is tied into riding, believe them about that's not the place to be. Califuckinfornia baby!!!"

@@misterk4580 I totally understand, NYC is overrated. Unless you're rich and making Millions of $$$, I don't see the purpose of living in crowded city as NYC and that's my humble opinion after living here for 7 years. I think I'm ready to move on. I want to move to California, but I'm afraid that it's gonna be the same quality of life besides the nice weather all year long. As everything is overpriced, and the real estate is quite expensive to acquire I'm skeptical about the move. I still have time to decide between Texas and Cali, so I'm waiting for signs to guide my decision.
