Go to Thailand, get your international driving license from there which i know many foreigners do because it's affordable and easy to get, come back to Malaysia, rent a motorbike, go around peninsular Malaysia, you can go east, west, north and south, accomodation is cheaper outside KL and record your journey as your new content. A New Yorker on a moped ride around Malaysia and telling people about his experience doing that, that'll be great fun to watch.
Maybe some issues with safety, finding a place to stay and food choices you'll have but just my random thoughts of what Ben should be doing next with his awesome youtube channel. Why do it in Malaysia instead of Thailand or Vietnam, well we Malaysian love your channel more than Thais and Vietnamese, right Ben?

Hello Ben, I hope you're all well.
I subscribed to you because I think you give a very good insight about what it is like being a foreigner who settles down in Malaysia without relying on the power of the USD. You admitted that you make the same amount like a generic Malaysian would (RM 4,000.00++, somewhere around $ 1,000.00++). So you give very honest reviews; because you go through what we Malaysian go through, living in a land that is extravagantly promoted as the land of luxury at the cost of a penny, without the benefit of a stronger currency.
So yes, living for $ 30.00 daily here is not affordable. If you ever choose to come back with the same amount of income you're making, I would suggest you to go settle down in a more outskirt part of KL with a high degree of reachability and accessibility to KL City Centre. Some places I would suggest would be Bukit Jalil where you have access to the public transportation, a more suburban neighbourhood, access to a lot of amenities, while being relatively cheaper.
I make just a little bit higher than you currently do, and I live in a 1,200 sqft condo with a separate kitchen (very important for someone who cooks a lot like me) and very near to the Stadium and the sports center, and we pay only $ 275.00++ monthly. After all deductions, investments, and savings, I still have somewhere around $ 300.00 worth of disposable money.
You can also opt into Wangsa Maju, Ampang, Sentul, or Cheras. You can start looking around. Until then, stay safe and come back soon!

Safe onward trip, Ben. Yeah, KL is not as cheap as BKK/Thailand. But as one commenter mentioned, try staying a bit outside KL - somewhere you can catch a train to Central Station. The trains are RM2, and that's typically for a 30 min or longer journey. Perhaps try looking at MidValley - it has an underground megamall there, which used to be the largest in Asia. You will find all the food you need there. Just a thought. Take care Ben!

Thanks again for sharing Ben, I really appreciate you sharing your challenges whit diet and autoimmunity. It sounds like we have the same affliction, that I've been dealing with for decades and figured it might be a challenge if I went back to SE Asia and your insights are helpful for me. I've found that I can tolerate getting off the diet for a few weeks until I relapse and it's a long way back. Also it's not just what I don't eat but how much and how often.
I'd be curious if you've had an ANA (antinuclear antibody) testing? That's how I found out I had a serious autoimmune condition and it was helpful to monitor that as I made dietary and lifestyle changes. Heat and environmental allergens can also effect autoimmune conditions such as in my condition. Japan was fine for me and I felt healthier than any time in my life, but After a year in Mexico Between eating out, the heat and frequent food poisoning I got seriously ill and had to leave. I went back to Japan and in a couple of months was on the mend.

I found close to the beach was more expensive and involved being round more tourists while if you just go back at least 750 meters away you get better services. Maybe Nha Trang would be a good choice too as it feels like the downtown city is nudged close to the beach with a pleasant atmosphere. Phenomenal. I can't wait to see your cooking content, new thoughts, new places.
Please indulge me and let me share some of my beliefs regarding cooking and health. As I do have my own thoughts about health and cooking which many times do conflict with what the 'greater-good' profit seeking corporate community of cookware and utensils dictate to consumers.
Have you ever wondered why there's so much cancer in the world today, and why there's no cure. There is prevention, but prevention is not so very profitable.
    Here goes-
    1) Don't use 'non-stick' cookware or utensils. I use stainless steel.
    2) Avoid microwave ovens, I use counter top toaster ovens, one for breads, one extra-wide, and one double rack.
    3) Don't put anything hot in plastic, including blenders with a plastic container. My blenders have glass containers. My storage containers for cooked food are glass with a plastic snap on lid, and I don't put the plastic lid on until the food is at room temperature.
Supposedly, food can stay at room temp up to two hours before nasty things begin to fester. I don't push it that long.
That's all I can think of now.
I'm at 7:22 in this video, and will finish later. I'm making a seitan roast and need to go to the kitchen and start mixing and kneading dough.
    This is so exciting.
Can't wait to see you in, Thailand or wherever you wander.
You are at an age where you can do what's good for you and insure good health and a life without health issues..
    GO GETUM BEN.

Visit Lombok, Indonesia. It's a beautiful place and affordable place. It'll be very different from KL.

I wonder if your pricing challenge is because you're trying to book last minute. I did my normal room checks on the city and I'm honestly kind of mind blown by how low prices are. But I'm looking at like Oct/Nov so reasonably in advance.

Try Cheras, KL. You can get a decent apartment with a kitchen for less than RM1500 per month. Get an apartment which is connected to the MRT station. Ask around and take the time to read the comments
.pointless to remain right smack in the city centre

Actually if you really need a good condo having gym, pool etc. deal then you need to stay atleast 3 to 6 month or longer. The price you paid in KL will always be for very short term stays.
You could try Penang where cost of living is lesser than KL but again staying for longer term will give you good deal. Also all local friends to negotiate for you.
If you need help let me know

But, wherever you travel to, it's mostly about your opinions/thoughts walking on the road. Most people wanna see places, attractions, etc, so called the touristy spots, somehow. It's still what attract tourists wanting to visit a country.
