    My Question: If my WordPress website user increases significantly fast. Can the system handle huge amounts of user requests? Can I use the benefit of AWS auto-expand products, such as EC2 solve the concern when my business needed it? Create an instance when user requestion reaching the bottleneck? Reduce computer power when some instances are idle? Can I put WordPress into a container such as a docker?

    • @BeABetterDev
      @BeABetterDev  Pƙed 3 lety +3

      Hey Jerry, you can certainly add more compute nodes + a load balancer to scale horizontally to meet more customer traffic. Alternatively, you can also choose to upgrade the power of your existing compute nodes. Either way, Lightsail offers mechanisms so your website can scale as your customer base grows.
      You can potentially put your wordpress setup in a docker container and have a database hosting your content separately. However this is a lot of work to setup and maintain. I like lightsail because it simplifies the approach and lets you worry more about your website content instead of configuration/scaling.
      Hope this helps,
      Daniel

    • @noahbodi6418
      @noahbodi6418 Pƙed 2 lety +5

      If you want to be able to auto scale your site to meet demand you should do a full AWS production deployment. You'd need to include the following in your architecture: Application load balancer, auto scaling group, RDS (for a scalable database), and Amazon EFS (for a scalable file server). Without the file server, anytime you make a change to one instance you'll have to go into every other instance to make the same change. The cloud is about decoupling the layers of an application to avoid any single point of failure bringing down your application. This is the true power of AWS. I'd also recommend learning CloudFormation (Infrastructure as Code) to automate the implementation and upgrading of your cloud infrastructure. Lightsail is really intended for developers and small deployments. I'm a former Cisco systems engineer and network architect but now I'm an AWS Solutions Architect focusing on cloud security. There's an AWS white paper on deploying a scalable Wordpress architecture in AWS. I hope this helps.

    24:15 A CNAME can never point to an IP address. So that's not going to work. Also I'm very curious if a static IP would have been necessary as you probably just could couple the DNS record to your lightsail instance right away in Route53. That would only be useful for external DNS hosting.

      @BeABetterDev  Pƙed 3 lety +1

      Thanks for pointing this out! Yes I had the same suspicion of the static IP of the instance and whether the default ip could have been used instead. I couldn't find out online if the ip would change in case a hardware failure so assumed the static ip must solve for this problem.

      Hi there,
      Yes this is definitely possible! In fact, it is even supported directly in the Lightsail console. There is a workflow you can go through to export a snapshot and import it directly onto an EC2 instance. "Also referred to as a bundle, a Lightsail plan includes a virtual private server with a fixed amount of memory (RAM) and compute (vCPUs), SSD-based storage (disks), and a data transfer allowance. Lightsail plans also offer static IP addresses (5 per account) and DNS management (3 domain zones per account). Lightsail plans are charged on an hourly, on-demand basis, so you only pay for a plan when you're using it."
      Static IP addresses are free up to a limit of 5 per account.
