Only 20 years old, came on late after having only played like 20 minutes in the tournament to fill in at left back (man is a box to box midfielder), and absolutely SHUT DOWN the left wing. Pickpocketed Messi at least twice, including on an occasion where he slipped, had to get up and recover back, then stole the ball from Messi, and subsequently drew the foul. Once Argentina pocketed Antoine Griezmann and seriously stripped him of all his abilities by overwhelming him, France have a horrible knack of losing finals when Griezmann is on the bench. Saw it literally 30 seconds after Griezmann got substituted against the Swiss in the last Euro in 2020. Massive effort for Mbappe though, but he's no Lionel Messi in terms of needing that extra world class talents in Griezmann and Giroud provide for him for a long time now. The confidence and assurance of Scaloni in his tactics was great to see. Messi can finally sleep knowing he's done 100% completed football and their major trophies.

They have gotten bette after every game so idky Deschamps would think Argentina wouldn’t come out stronger in this tournament. Scaloni tactics was brilliant until the sub of Di Maria I feel he should’ve stayed on a bit longer since we already had a 2 goal advantage and he can hold up the ball even if he can’t run much anymore and try to get the 3rd then take him off, acuna for Di Maria wasn’t a good idea he could’ve brought on Correra or Lautauro who will put in a shift in the middle. He made the same mistake against the Netherlands and Australia I think. He overcomplicates it but luckily today they got away with it again🙏🏽 he clearly knows how to win games tho but he’s a rough house coach who wants to see his teams fighting and suffer to win. He made the right subs this would’ve been a world class match for Argentina where France probably wouldn’t have gotten a goal or it would’ve ended 3-1 but I respect him it’s his first World Cup tournament as a coach and he’s done brilliant and has copa America and World Cup and a finalisma trophy to his name beating Brazil, Italy and now the young power house France 👏🏽

The balance was definitely off for France this year, last time they had Pogba Kante as a 2 and then they had Matuidi on the left and Mbappe on the right, Matuidi was such a hard worker and such a solid guy that when they had to drop to a defensive shape, there was no worries on that side. France probably should've used Fofana on the right or someone else more solid on the right because Mbappe can't be pulled in to chasing fullbacks, none of the elite wide forwards in the world spend energy chasing fullbacks, they may press from the front but they dont track back all the way and you gotta adjust the team accordingly..

Yes, absolutely. Mbappe is a player who can drift out of games and be completely invisible, but the way he pounces on the littlest of opportunities once he gets them is what sets him apart. You can nullify him for 80 minutes, but if you give him just a string to hold onto, he won't give you any second chances. Like you say, his efficiency is what makes him so ferocious.
