  • In the 16th century, the Tatacoa Desert was nicknamed by the Spanish conquistadors: the ‘Valley of Sorrows’. Although the mountain ranges absorb all the region’s rainfall, the desert is not as inhospitable as it sounds and even attracts lifelong admirers.
We visited this unearthly landscape with one of its dearest enthusiasts: Carlos Alberto, a guide and a livestock farmer, who used to play in Tatacoa as a child.
But the unique red colour of the desert is not the only reason why this place has won hearts. Being so close to the Equator, Tatacoa also offers the ideal atmospheric conditions for stargazing. 🤩
Would you want to go there?
