its the portland bill theme. sorry about the slight jult at the start of the singing. no copyright is intended for i do not own this song nor the programme
Was thinking exactly the same thing! Haven't heard that since the 80s, here we are in 2024 and I recalled most of the lyrics and the Bert Jansch style acoustic guitar noodlings. Great stuff 👏
This theme tune is, in fact, a *very old* sea shanty song which dates back many centuries and has been passed down & sung by generations of fishermen and sailors who had worked and sailed out of the ports of Cornwall. "Portland Bill" was a mythical figure who would protect seafarers who would often face danger on the perilous open seas
"Oh come with me while I have a wee while the weather's calm and still, we'll have some fun, licking my bum, with the adventures of Portland Bill" that's how it went at my school anyway...
I'm nearly 50 and I'm not sure if I remember Portland Bill from my childhood or my daughter's childhood, as I had her at only 16. Either way I loved it! Also, as with a lot of these old kids programmes like Trumpton, Camberwick Green, Bagpuss, I could go on...they must have done re-runs. I got a DVD called Cult Classics and it had Chorlton and the Wheelie's on it, no less. Now that is old but Portland Bill was a little later.
That's right! I could be wrong but didn't he have two mate's, one called Cromarty and the other Finisterre? I'm certain of the latter as I can picture him! Finisterre is now Fitzroy though. Great little program I grew up with...
@CcLady~♡ His mates were Ross and Cromarty. There was a shopkeeper called Eddy Stone, I think Finnisterre was a fisherman? Definitely one of the characters though.
Oh my days! That’s the sugar I didn’t even know I needed. It’s a thumbs up from me. 👍🏼 It was a fruitless search for the theme from Storybook International that brought me down a rabbit that led here. If ever a man was born to grant my wish of a video presented just like this of that (Storybook International) theme tune, even though it is biologically impossible, I would be fully prepared to have his babies.* *Apologies to the content creator for talking about you like you’re the cats mother. Mucho Gusto to you sir. :-)
i was stashing meatballs down me duds when i was 2 years old watching this and wiping my nappy on the window its this and orm and cheap ill all ways remember the theme tune.....
The 80's and early 90's (my cartoon viewing days basically) in comparison with other decades seems to have really gone the extra mile with the time & effort spent on making kids programmes their theme tunes. Theres countless greats and even when the show isnt a massive success the theme tune is great. Todays seem sloppy in comparison. Just an observation.
It’s amazing how 30 seconds of a theme song can bring bring back over 40 years!😘

One of few stop motion animations yet to have been affected by CGI. Another bit of childhood still in tact.

That's disgusting. Never trust a sailor. This is typical of them. Licking bums and all sorts.

Lovely theme tune
Always liked this. Especially as the characters are named after sea areas around the UK. Even His pet! Dogger Bank!

GREAT SONG ABOUT BENNETS NUMBER 1 SEAMAN (DRINKER)
Wasn't fun and laughter in portland when I went
The lyrics to the song are a lie. I never had any fun and laughter watching Bills adventures.
